AM in NC – NO KINGS – Durham, NC (with the Durham images this time!)

This post is in: No Kings Protests June 14, 2025, Political Action

This is our final No Kings post from June 14, 2025.  What a rousing success that day was!

Here are some photos from Durham, NC.  (Take 2!)

These are the Durham images, for real, as I apparently posted the wrong images the first time around.

Apologies to AM in NC, who was quite gracious about it when she emailed me.

~ WG

Crowd estimates I saw put the number of people around 5,000!

It was a happy, joyful day full of solidarity and protesters of all ages.

If you have any final thoughts on the No Kings, June 14 events as we wrap this up, I hope you’ll consider sharing them here in the comments

NaijaGal – No Kings Protest in Marina del Rey/Playa Vista, California

Pictures from a No Kings protest on the other side of Los Angeles, far from downtown but still in the city of Los Angeles proper (corner of Lincoln and Jefferson Blvds). The organizers estimated that about 1,500 to 2,000 showed up over the course of the afternoon. Includes a shot of my friend’s TACO t-shirt, which she had made specially. A lot of people liked it! Our other (African American) friend briefly considered joining us but she is still “resting and not protesting” and I respect that decision.

There were three Jesuit priests (I assume from Loyola Marymount U, but I’m not sure) at our protest. I laughed watching their faces at some of the chants, but they stayed a long time and joined the “Immigrants are welcome here” chant.

I just got these pictures from one of my nieces. They were taken in Albany NY.

My brother, his wife and some of his daughters are in the picture with the sign that says “Eggs are so expensive because all the chickens are in congress.” My sister in law actually came up with the line. My favorite is the one with the 3D taco. I couldn’t attend this one because of my knee.

I hope it’s not too late to get this in.

Wyandotte is a suburb of Detroit of around 25,000 people, about 10 miles south of it right on the Detroit River.  There were hundreds of protestors lining Biddle Ave, the main drag through Wyandotte. The crowd was mostly older white people, but there were quite a few kids running around looking like they were having a blast.

A couple of my favorite signs:

More queens, no kings! 🏳️‍🌈✊

Foxtrot Delta Tango

On The Road – something fabulous – No Kings! Glendale CA

My Protest Friend and I decided this time to go to the protest in Glendale, her hometown these days, rather than go downtown, which we did for Hands Off.

It was a nice, peaceful, mixed gathering outside of city hall. I am bad at estimating crowd sizes and can’t seem to find an official estimate.

Fairly strong police presence, mostly on foot circling around grumpily, but no confrontations of any kind that I could see, beyond one officer wanting my friend to take her sign off the cardboard wrapping paper tube (!!) she was using as a pole.

She made a big show of squashing it flat instead and going ahead to use it.

A few drivers flipped us off, but mostly honks of support, flags out of car windows and sunroofs, etc. General level of wittiness of signs not quite as high as downtown, but all pretty earnest and sincere and friendly.

Glad we chose to help round out the numbers in a historically more conservative suburb since downtown was pretty well-represented, I hear. :)

Highly recommend!

Cindy – No Kings – Everett, WA (near Seattle)

Hello, a late-ish addition to the No Kings day protests. I know there may be too many pics, but so many great signs and people were there!

Everett is a blue-collar town north of Seattle; home of Funko, Boeing, and a large Navy base; it’s purplish though more to the blue end. Indivisible organized the day.

We had an excellent turnout at the courthouse- several thousand people showed up & then walked to the main thoroughfare and lined both sides of the street for over a mile 😊 It was very encouraging!  I am recovering from my first bout of Covid, so I had to skip the second part, but I’m told it was well received-lots of enthusiastic honking. I did wear my protest earrings, which always get lots of love.

Something I noticed at this protest that was different from the one’s earlier this year was that I kept seeing men in what I think of as right-winger t-shirts- “Come and Take It” with a gun pic, or “I’m not PC, I say Merry XMas and God Bless America” – but they were out carrying signs and were all super pissed off at DT.  Caused me cognitive dissonance at first, but left me hopeful!

If you weren’t marching, it was celebratory defiance. Big crowd.

If you were marching, it was all Palestine-all-the-time. Same person at every Denver rally other than the AOC/Sanders rally is basically hijacked by the pro-Palestine crowd. Heh heh, I talked with people on the march who all were saying the same thing. We’re all there for a shit load of reasons but you’d never know it when marching.

Diverse crowd in terms of white and Hispanic on the Capitol grounds and the parcel across the street. Lots of groups with tents, lots of people, again, very celebratory in 96 degree heat and full sun.

Anyway, here’s my photos if you want em. I’ll admit, that last one, carried by a woman, makes no damn sense.
