The funniest thing about Hollywood is how seriously they take themselves and how unseriously they approach their audiences.
Trust me- only in the current vote rigging schema that you have in place now would anyone think that the reason In the Bedroom lost was because people don’t like the head of Miramax. Hell. I can’t even remember if it is spelled Weinstein, or Wienstein, or Wienstien, or whatever. Who cares? How many old folks homes do you guys smother with Oscar ballots? Does anyone under 45 vote?
The rest of America could not care less about In the Bedroom. Why? Because we were all out watching the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Shrek, and Monsters, Inc. A couple of nitwits were not even doing that, because they have been waiting in line for Star Wars for the last 6 months. Who needs another one of these serious films you guys are always cranking out about the ‘human condition.’ You know the ones I am talking about. People like me invariably label them either a ‘chick flick’ or something my parents would watch. You know which ones I am talking about. The ones about lost love, children with terminal diseases, the dark sides of life. Why don’t you leave that stuff to people who do it well- writers. Go get a Carson McCullers book. And tell me- do you really think anyone like me would watch Monsters Ball if they did not know that Halle Berry was going to run around in various stages of undress? It is why I watched Swordfish, so I do not why the trend would be broken. Best actress? Try best breasts.
I saw A Beautiful Mind. I saw Lord of the Rings. LOTR was a better picture. Period. In fact, I am going to see LOTR again tonight.
And one last thing. Why do all these serious artsy films you guys put out star some wrinkled British women with died hair and a thick accent?
