I’m going to have to read 40 Mark Steyn articles to get the taste of this crap from John LeCarre out of my mouth.

By the time the Reign of Terror ended, France had grown so used to an iron hand and a secretive, militaristic government that Napolean could easily pick up the pieces and impose another dictatorship. People had forgotten what freedom was. Patriotism had become a tool for social control, rather than social justice, and civil liberties were a thing of the past.
So how different are we today? The issue isn’t Iraq, the Patriot Act, or Bush. The issue is freedom: if we want it, we’d better let go of fear, the ultimate Weapon of Mass Distraction. We’d better confront the hysteria-inducing tactics asking us to equate freedom with corporate pork for defense contractors. We’d better think twice about tossing aside fundamental constitutional rights in the so-called pursuit of liberty. Because if we don’t, what’s coming next could be even worse.
This is so stupid that my circuits overloaded when I went to comment. Fill in your own.

“Conservative” Bill O’Reilly makes me want to beat my head against a wall. I hate it when I screw up and get caught up in one of his tirades while I am channel surfing. Tonight, he argued with a fellow from the CATO Institute about S.U.V.’s. O’Reilly doesn’t want them, and he was trumpeting Arianna Huffington’s terrorism campaign.
Fine. Don’t buy one, Bill. It really is that simple. I don’t really care for SUV’s either, but I am not arrogant enough to tell people what to buy. If they want one or need one, let ’em have it.
And the quotes-o-sarcasm around conservative are a reaction to the idiot leftists who keep calling O’Reilly a conservative. He isn’t- he ia faux-populist. But libs name anything they don’t like conservatives, so that is the label he gets. Put is this way- O’Reilly is conservative like Farrakhan is liberal.

Right-Wing News located this disturbing thread.
Some lowlights:
I’m wrong to feel this way, and I know it. But I can’t help myself — no way do I want to see the United States succeed in this “war” with Iraq. This may sound traitorous to some. And I’ll understand your flames.
It might sound traitorous because it is, you dolt. At least she understands she is a moron. Big of her, no?
Idiots. There is nothing unpatriotic about principled opposition to the war. Nothing whatsoever. I will never flame anyone for making a principled stand on war- hell, I come from Quaker ancestry- they know something about opposition to war. Actively rooting for us to lose a war, however immoral you may believe it is, crosses a line.

I am glad that the tragic story of the police in Tennesee shooting a family pet in a routine traffic stop is getting a lot of air time, and I hope everyone views it. There is a policing problem in this country. It starts with the police. If the police can say that shooting a family pet in front of children is the appropriate response and according to department policy, let me suggest it is time to re-work the policies of the department. This is also not the first time this department has been involved in wrong-doings. The word fascist is thrown out a lot by Democrats when talking about conservatives. I don’t know the political affiliation of these guys, but fascist sounds about right.

I read this editorial in the NY Times, and I was shocked. You mean to tell me, that in 2003, we don’t videotape confessions? It should be mandatory. If anyone can come up with a reason why it shouldn’t be, I am all ears.

Cops With Knives
Misha found this gem:
A Detroit police officer with a knife cut off the finger of a 45-year-old woman he was trying to handcuff in a parking lot on 8 Mile.
Great. Go read Misha’s entire take.
