This guy:

On Monday, on the tarmac at Kennedy International Airport, a JetBlue attendant named Steven Slater decided he had had enough, the authorities said.

After a dispute with a passenger who stood to fetch luggage too soon on a full flight just in from Pittsburgh, Mr. Slater, 38 and a career flight attendant, got on the public-address intercom and let loose a string of invective.

Then, the authorities said, he pulled the lever that activates the emergency-evacuation chute and slid down, making a dramatic exit not only from the plane but, one imagines, also from his airline career.

On his way out the door, he paused to grab a beer from the beverage cart. Then he ran to the employee parking lot and drove off, the authorities said.

Grabbing the beer on the way out was the kind of quality touch that only a good screenwriter could come up with…

Haven’t had one of these in at least a day or two, but I’m kinda cranky. I think it is the heat- I should have waited until tomorrow morning to cut my grass.

This did make me a touch happier, though.

*** Update ***

BTW- I have been out of the stereo market for so long, I no longer have the first clue what constitutes high-end speakers any more. Anyone an audiophile? I have some NHT’s I like, but the center speaker died and I am thinking about buying a whole new system and putting the other two up on ebay. One of these days.

Brother and friends came over and I’m being forced to listen to the Gogol Bordello’s. Yeah. One song is neat. Two is ok. After that, there is a precipitous drop-off in my interest. This is a genre of music for people who like to black-out.

I’m going to make my move in a little bit and try to put on something with comprehensible lyrics and a beat that fat white guys can enjoy. I’ll distract them with rum.

That’s my plan, anyway, and I’m sticking to it.

One of those moods. For some reason, just been low energy and crabbier than normal.

Watching last night’s White Collar on demand, then I have no clue. Might just go to bed early. Might just spend some time pricing fencing, as I am planning on building a privacy fence to keep the varmints out and the ladies and Tunch in, but I just get so frustrated. Everything inexpensive looks so damned tacky, and cedar is so expensive, and I don’t want to have to paint every year, and blah blah blah. See what I mean about crabby?

On the upside, we got slashdotted and did not crash. Those of you who were here two-three years ago should appreciate that.

This picture could have been taken during the latter part of Reagan’s term, or during Bush I:

High waistline pleated pants? Check. Big-ass fugly belt? Check. Skinny model with real breasts? Check and check.

So, I guess millions of pairs of hip-huggers are now garbage?

Since I am obviously a moron about women’s fashion, I have another question: what about the tramp stamps and implants? Are they out of style, too?

I Was Unaware the TB Ward had a Symphony

Was driving this morning and listening to Performance Today on my local NPR affiliate, and there was a performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet #13, and I could not believe the recording. Not because it was exceptional, but because I think the quartet playing it all had bronchitis. The entire thing was filled with heavy breathing interrupted with the occasional muffled cough and hacking wheeze. It sounded like Chris Farley having sex while listening to classical music. Why is it that classical music seems to include this sort of thing far more than other forms of music?

Also, somewhat related. I was driving through the country last week listening to PT, completely blissed out, and the EBS test came right in the middle of a piece and it was so damned jarring I almost wrecked my car. Is that really necessary in 2010?

I was going to talk about this Greenwald piece on media transparency, but now intend to simply rant about the annoying god damned ads at Salon. Do these things actually work? Do people really click on the ads after they block the entire page? I just look for the little x and close area, and half the time I am so pissed off I just leave the website. I think I’m going to make a list of companies that use this type of ad and boycott them. Wankers.
