Something tells me we won’t have the lost Madonna of the Teabagger WASPs to kick around much longer (via):

Sarah Palin has not yet received an invitation to speak at or attend the Republican National Convention this August in Tampa, Newsweek reported.
“What can I say?” Palin told Newsweek in an email. “I’m sure I’m not the only one accepting consequences for calling out both sides of the aisle for spending too much money, putting us on the road to bankruptcy, and engaging in crony capitalism.”
“In accepting those consequences,” she added, “one must remember this isn’t Sadie Hawkins and you don’t invite yourself and a date to the Big Dance.”

As soon as you read that, I’ll bet you guessed that she’s making plans for her own event at the convention in case she isn’t invited. She probably wouldn’t have reached her sell-by date so quickly if she weren’t such a completely predictable liar.

Even Bill Kristol Thinks Mitt Romney Should Release More Tax Returns — BILL KRISTOL!

Even Bill Kristol thinks that Mitt Romney should release more tax returns, and that not doing so is crazy:

Bill Kristol and the Obama campaign agree on something: Mitt Romney should immediately release his tax returns.

“He should release the tax returns tomorrow. It’s crazy,” Kristol said on “Fox News Sunday.” “You gotta release six, eight, 10 years of back tax returns. Take the hit for a day or two.”

Good god, man! When the Merchant of Death says you’re acting crazy then you need to do some serious soul-searching.

Then again, maybe Mittens has already done the calculus, and decided that the backlash over releasing tax returns for two years and then stonewalling is preferable to the shit that will rain down if he releases more tax returns. Which leads me to —

What the hell is in these tax returns?

New Romney Campaign Attack Ad Raises More Questions Than It Answers…

by Imani Gandy (ABL)|  July 16, 20122:42 pm| 154 Comments

This post is in: Election 2012, Romney of the Uncanny Valley, Schadenfreude

Over the weekend, the Obama campaign released an ad that even the denizens of Free Republic had to admit was impressive. It was a simple idea: Romney sings America the Beautiful (tone-deafedly like only a humanoid can) while damning quotes about Romney and how he loves to ship jobs overseas flash across the screen.

If you have been trapped under something heavy for the past few days, here is the ad:

Brutal, right?

Today, the Romney campaign hit back with an ad of their own, and it’s — well — take a look:

If you didn’t laugh at this ad, there’s probably something broken in your brain, because WTF?! Is this the best they can do? Stealing the Obama campaign’s idea and then royally fucking it up? I can’t even remember what the point of the ad is, and I just watched it. All I’m hearing is President Obama singing the hell out of some Al Green.

Come on, son! What is going on with the Romney campaign?!

Oh, and there’s also the fact that by releasing this ad, Romney has opened himself up to attacks over his refusal to name his donation bundlers (i.e., people who gather donations from a bunch of individual donors). FEC rules do not require candidates to disclose their donation bundlers, but of course President Obama does anyway. Romney, on the other hand, has decided to act shady and disclose exactly jackshit.

Surprise!

Alabama Governor Bentley Sorta-but-not-Really Thinks Mitt Romney Should Release More Tax Returns

by Imani Gandy (ABL)|  July 15, 20124:52 pm| 25 Comments

Even Republicans are getting annoyed at Romney’s tax return nonsense — kinda. Governor Bentley, for instance, championed transparency at the National Governors Association meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia yesterday. He said that if you have things to hide, you’re probably doing things wrong. He also said that you should be willing to release everything to the American people.

But of course such common sense could not stand, man. This is the Romney campaign after all. As soon as such totally sensible words left Bentley’s mouth, the Romney damage control team presumably sprang in to action to yank Bentley back in line, because hours later, Bentley walked back those remarks like a drunk man at a Japanese tea ceremony.

Campaign Optics: President Obama in the Rain vs. Mitt Romney on a Boat

Advantage, Obama

While President Obama campaigned in the rain today —

Mitt Romney took the fam for a spin around Lake Winnipesaukee on the SS Failboat:

Not to begrudge Mitt Romney a little R&R — after all he had a pretty rough Friday, having appeared on five different networks in an effort to convince everyone that he left Bain Capital in 1999 (CNN); he left Bain Capital in 1999 (CBS); he left Bain Capital in 1999 (ABC); he left Bain Capital in 1999 (NBC); he left Bain Capital in 1999 and besides the president is black (Fox News).

Still, the optics are not in Romney’s favor.

Mittens Wants An Apology from the Obama Campaign

by Imani Gandy (ABL)|  July 14, 20122:58 pm| 90 Comments

The other day, Stephanie Cutter (the Obama campaign’s deputy manager) remarked that if Mitt Romney’s SEC filings were inaccurate, Romney might have committed a felony.

Mitt Romney took umbrage at that statement. Indeed, he sounded downright offended during his whirlwind five-network “I did not have managerial relations with that company, Bain Capital” apology tour:

“What kind of president would have a campaign that says something like that about the nominee of another party?” Romney said to CBS. “This is reckless and absurd on his part, and something that’s beneath his dignity. I hope he recognizes that even fellow Democrats have said that.”

Scoff.

Mitt Romney talking about Obama’s lack of dignity is like someone with no dignity talking about someone else’s lack of dignity.

It makes no damn sense.
