Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

I really should read my own blog.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

The willow is too close to the house.

T R E 4 5 O N

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Spilling the end game before they can coat it in frankl luntz-approved dogwhistles.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

I’m So Mad At The American Strategy to Win WWII That I’m Joining the SS

I’m really quite impressed with the level of stupidity put forth by Sullivan (that DougJ just highlighted). It isn’t easy to write something dumber than you would read in the comments at Hillary is 44, but Andrew was up to the challenge. That takes self-defeating to a new level, and if I didn’t know how irrational he often gets, I’d think it was spoof. I suppose it is only a matter of time before he changes the website color to signify his disgust with the Democrats who tried to repeal DADT.

But then again, what can you say about the guy who, when the DADT repeal failed, immediately decided the villains were not the Republicans who voted as a block to defeat the legislation, but Obama, Rahm Emanuel, and the Human Rights Campaign.

Just pure idiocy. Which means it will receive a hardy “Heh-indeedy” from the wingnut chorus.

No One Could Have Predicted

No one could have predicted that the outcome of Gibbs’ stupid remarks would be a multi-month poutrage in which the media would rush to highlight Obama’s mythical problems with the left:

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: With White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs lashing out at President Obama’s liberal critics, a card-carrying member of Gibbs’ “professional left” joined us on ABC/Washington Post’s “Top Line” today. (Yes, she actually brought a card – a digital version.)

Jane Hamsher, the founder of the liberal blog Firedoglake.com, told us that Gibbs’ swipe reflects a White House that’s taken the left for granted – inattention that she said could hurt Democratic candidates in 2010 and beyond.

“It went over like a lead balloon — particularly in August when all the members of Congress are back in their home states, campaigning, trying to whip up enthusiasm,” Hamsher told us. “We’re seeing tremendous demoralization amongst the sort of Democratic base….

Oh, wait. I predicted this would happen… I will simply restate what I wrote in the comments a few hours ago:

It really is odd. The more I move to the left the more I hate the people I agree with. Guess it is like family. I love them, but really need a break after a few hours with them. Because they make me so GOD DAMNED MAD.

Gibbs said something stupid and counter-productive. Now we can spend the next few months going on tv and tweeting about how offended we are and how much the White House sucks. This will no doubt be helpful for all involved.

At some point I wish people would realize that Rick Klein and those fanning the flames don’t give two hoots in hell about progressive issues. All evidence points to the fact that they are actively working against us.

*** Update ***

And by the way, in case anyone is wondering, the next step in the “I AM RELEVANT” charade we go through every couple of months is that Warren will be nominated to the new agency. Rather than acknowledging that the Obama team has sent signals all along that she would be nominated, we will all be required to pretend that it was a gift to progressives who rose up and showed how mighty we are in the wake of the Gibbs remarks. See! We are important! And then, when the blue dogs and Republicans cockblock her nomination, we can spend weeks writing that the White House secretly hates progressives and Obama didn’t do enough and all he needed to do was use the bully pulpit and this was just 11 dimensional chess to slap liberals in the face. Just like Dawn Johnsen. And Ben Nelson and Lieberdouche and the others will get off without their perfidy in blocking the nomination even mentioned.

Anyone want to bet?

I’m not sure what pisses me off more- that Robert Gibbs didn’t have he good sense to keep his damned mouth shut, or that I’m going to have to listen to the professional left justifiably bitching all day. Can you imagine how long it would take before Ari was polishing his resume if he had dissed the “christian right?”

And even that comparison is unfair. The christian right want to impose their damned values on everyone. The “professional left” wants clean water, jobs, and government accountability.

Way to help the GOTV efforts, Gibbs. Asshole.

Slow Down. Or At Least Shoot the Right Damned People. For Once.

This post is in: Black Jimmy Carter, Post-racial America, Fools! Overton Window!, Manic Progressive, Show Me On the Doll Where Rahm Touched You

By now, we’ve all seen KO’s special comment and heard the usual professionally depressed progressive bloggers chime in on the Sherrod affair, and not surprisingly, the received view is this is Obama’s fault. And I’m not sure what KO’s problem with calling this an injustice really is.

Am I just being naive that I don’t think he had anything to do with the decision to fire her, and after it was clear something wrong had taken place, made sure the right thing (Vilsack’s apology, Gibbs from the podium apologizing) was done? Christ- it wasn’t too long ago the same damned people were telling us what a mistake it was for Obama and the WH to confront Limbaugh and these asshats. Anyone else remember the vapors when Obama went after Fox?

I found Vilsack’s presser to be pretty compelling- given the history of the USDA and what he has been dealing with for 18 months, it looked to him like there was a clear instance of racism, and he acted. That makes sense. He was wrong, but I found his discussion frank and honest, and didn’t think he was just throwing himself on the sword for Obama. Can someone tell me what evidence there is that the cowardly and right-wing loving Rahmbama was behind the firing? Anyone?

And yes, I know this makes me just a dirty former Republican OBOT, but christ on a motor bike- I’m so tired of this fratricide. Fox and Breitbart and their cohorts in the media and throughout the wingnut blogosphere are to blame, not the WH.

You Are an Obsession, You’re My Obsession

The normally even-keeled Emptywheel:

There’s a lot that’s interesting in this tick-tock of General McChrystal’s firing. It’s a finely crafted narrative, down to the foregrounding of Joe Biden, in spite of the way that the chronology appears to belie that narrative (that is, the chronology appears to start when the White House Press Office learns about the article). And note the way the normally cowardly anonymous source, Rahm Emanuel, is on the record, as the story’s official narrator?

This is bordering on clinical. Now it’s just fact that Rahm was the anonymous source for any quote that upsets the netroots.

Someone needs to do a long write-up on whatever Rahm did to so infuriate the progressive left. It would be nice to know the chain of events. I understand a lot of this has to do with electoral strategies, but I just can’t remember everything involved.

This post is in: Assholes, Manic Progressive, Show Me On the Doll Where Rahm Touched You, The Failed Obama Administration (Only Took Two Weeks)

1000 times this:

I think the frustration that supporters of the president have (at least it is for me) is that his critics give him credit for nothing. NOTHING.

He gets a health care reform bill passed that is sweeping in scope and more than anyone has done in decades. And the left-wing critics say “Not enough.”

He gets a stimulus bill passed that pretty much kept a massive recession from getting worse and all the left-wing critics said was “Not enough.”

He’s on the verge of getting DADT repealed through law as opposed to using a reversible executive order and all the left-wing critics say is “Not enough.”

He gives a speech that talks about peak oil, points out how government corruption played a role and begins to lay out the way forward towards an alternative energy future and all the left-wing critics say is “Not enough” while having orgasms to Rachael Maddow’s satisfying-but-completely unrealistic “Fake President” speech.

Never mind Lily Leadbetter, killing the F-22 (something BUSH couldn’t do), expanding SCHIP, credit card reform, tobacco regulation…but no, it’s not enough. It’s NEVER enough with some people.

There is legit criticism to be made when it comes to President Obama, especially in the civil rights arena. But to hear the WATBs on the left tell it, he hasn’t done a damn thing. And that is simply not true.

And when you point that out, you are hippie-punching or just an O-bot and not a critical thinker. And he managed to do all this without ANY help from the Republicans and minimal help from the Blue Dogs, all while dealing with a childish media (Is he smoking? Does he hate the womyn folks because he won’t shoot hoops with them? Is he angry enough?) and a left-flank that thinks teaming up with Grover Norquist and echoing Republican talking points is moving the fucking Overton Window.

You point out the fact that this is the most successful Democratic Presidency in my lifetime and all you hear is but, but but… He didn’t get single payer!

And now this thread will rapidly become populated with WATB telling me I’m just as in the tank for Obama as I was for Republicans and that I hate the left and that I’m showing my authoritarian Republican roots and, oh, forget it. You know the damned drill. If I were a tough manly man like Keith Olbermann, a fierce and independent thinker who alone has the insight, bravery and knowledge to criticize the President, I’d just pre-emptively shut this blog down because you just know some anonymous commenter is going to say something mean on the internet and break my heart.

All I know is that if Obama doesn’t stop the oil leak with his massive Kenyan penis and then give a rousing FDR/Trumanesque speech delivered using a grade 7.5 language level that gives Chris Matthews a blue-vein hard-on and then personally scrubs every drop of oil from the gulf without hurting BP’s profits and making sure every oil worker has a job, I’m out. I mean, come on. That isn’t asking too much, is it? And why don’t we have gay marriage and a cure for cancer? What a loser! If only he hadn’t turned off his progressive base, all this could happen. Ed Schultz told me so.

And he better wear a flag lapel pin while doing it.

*** Update ***

Here’s what we’re dealing with:

Obama gives a speech on energy, but can’t bring himself to say “climate change.”

Beyond parody.

Read this:

Although U.S. registered voters are closely divided in their 2010 congressional election preferences, those who say they are “very enthusiastic about voting” this year show a strong preference for the Republican Party.

Gallup has consistently found Republicans expressing a higher level of enthusiasm than Democrats about voting in this year’s election campaign. Theoretically, those who are enthusiastic about voting would be more likely to turn out to vote than those who are not enthusiastic. This fall, Gallup will be better able to measure the potential impact of turnout on the vote by applying its “likely voter” model to the generic ballot results. That model takes into account a more complete set of factors related to voting, including interest in the election, intention to vote, and past voting behavior.

The read the three blogposts below this. Then factor in everything the Republicans have done the past two years. Then think about the fact that today, they voted against, for the second time, even debating financial reform.

If you idiots are not enthusiastic about going to the polls to vote for the Democrats and against the Republicans, you deserve what you get. And so help me, if one of you says you just haven’t gotten enough change from Obama, I’ll come to your house and punch you in the neck and kick you in the junk. And if I so much as hear one of you whine about the public option, I’ll go all Marsellus Wallace on you.

There’s a war on, and you don’t get to be Switzerland, sitting on the sidelines nursing your butthurt.
