Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

This really is a full service blog.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

My sister was visiting so I basically saw no news for 5 days.

I can’t possibly read all the posts from that time period, let alone the comments.

What did I miss?  Anyone willing to catch me up?

He’s also made sure that if you want to build cars, you should absolutely plan to do so in Japan, or in the EU, because in the US, you import steel at 50% and car parts at 25%, paid by *you*, while in Japan and the EU, there are no tariffs on parts, and just a 15% import tax, paid by the buyer.  So yeah, this is our disgraced felonious President, who fled to Scotland for a ribbon cutting ceremony to avoid answering questions about Epstein, while making deals of the quality that you’d have expected.

    Lots of news!

As is true every July, it is Bat O’Clock in our yard from 9:30-9:45 PM. We have a pair who show up and put on an airshow in the back yard. They are welcome to every mosquito they catch.

I updated 450+ addresses for our state Democratic party, and wrote a couple of batches of GOTV postcards. My hands are tired but my soul is rested.

I mended a dishtowel as a bribe to the universe to return a missing household item. (Having already unsuccessfully tried the “brother, go find your brother” ritual.) Household item is redacted because it is almost as big as a Subaru… and for all I know is in the same place.

Trump just  spilled the tea on himself.

President Donald Trump said that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein “stole” Virginia Giuffre from his Mar-a-Lago club.

Trump was speaking to reporters on Tuesday when he was asked about comments he made over the weekend about falling out with Epstein because he took employees from his business.

“He took people that worked for me. And I told him, ‘Don’t do it anymore.’ And he did it,” Trump said, telling reporters that he barred Epstein from Mar-a-Lago.

“I said, ‘Stay the hell out of here,'” he said.

When pressed about whether any of the stolen employees were young women, Trump responded that many of them worked in the club’s spa.

“The answer is yes, they were in the spa,” he said. “I told him, I said, ‘Listen, we don’t want you taking our people, whether it was spa or not spa.’ … And he was fine. And then not too long after that, he did it again.”

This is not the news he thinks it is. His attorneys must be running for smelling salts right now.

hmm reading about this one, is it my imagination this seems a bit off?

Wade said the suspects include relatives of some of the 10 alleged victims, who range in age from 3 to 15.

The seven face a mix of charges including rape, sexual abuse and sexual torture of a child, human trafficking, sodomy, kidnapping, bestiality and animal abuse, according to the criminal complaints.

Homeland Security Investigations is working to determine if there are possible links to a national, gang-run sex-trafficking ring, Wade said. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

It’s like what they are expecting in the Epstein files.

OK, but what’s the connection with the hotline?  If I’m a Federal worker and I politely tell a co-worker to get lost when they proselytize to me, I suppose they could call up the hotline and say…what? I’m mystified.

    OTOH, there’s this bit:

In a memo to the heads of federal agencies, the Office of Personnel Management — the government’s human resources arm — said public employees have the right to religious expression in the workplace, citing civil rights law and the First Amendment. That includes the right to discuss religion, engage in “communal religious expressions” and display items such as bibles, crucifixes and mezuzahs on their desks, the memo states.

This Christian would be bringing in his plush Cthulhu to put on his desk if he were still Federally employed. 😁

@WaterGirl: what came out in 2019 was that Virginia Guiffre was recruited by Maxwell and Epstein while she was working as a massage therapist in the Mar-a-lago spa.  There is speculation (it would be irresponsible not to!) that at the time, Trump looked the other way while his massage staff was recruited (pimped out) by Maxwell and Epstein. But when Guiffre (still underage at the time) went to work with Maxwell and left Mar-a-Lago, Trump was miffed.

However, the real estate double-cross probably was probably the main reason for the fallout.

Anti-Woke U.S. Dad Who Joined Putin’s War Machine ‘Blown Away by Hate’

    Some choice quotes:

“I’m only doing what I feel is right… but the level of hate for Russia is insane.”

The Huffmans, once a suburban family in the American South, now promote their brand of “traditional values” from behind enemy lines on YouTube, where DeAnna, a former teacher and floral designer, shares videos about their Russian relocation and his military service.

He does not really seem to understand that Russians (including him, apparently) are murdering Ukrainians trying to live by their traditional values.  That is why most of us hate them at the moment.  The deaths are entirely on Putin.

@WaterGirl: Well, I just got word my wife is coming home at the end of the week! tomorrow!!! which is a bit of a surprise and requires some work. Strange lass, you’d think she’d be comforted coming home to the same sheets as when she left, but *nooo-oooo* she wants them *changed*. And probably *laundered*.

What I’ll change them *into* is my little secret, but it might not take well to being laundered!

It’s not as bad as I make it out to be – she gave me a fair two week warning, so I started planning walkways, where to put things, etc.. It just turned into 3 days fewer than I’d expected.

I just have to remind myself that, no, not all sudden changes are bad things, no matter how often they end up being that way. That’s one of my mental issues – everything hurts, so, changes hurt, and stick out as especially painful, but, they aren’t. So: I have to remind myself not to let a change become a negative and nasty thing in my memory, just because it’s a change.

Lots of them suck for entirely different reasons, of course, but… it’s not that it’s a change, nor even a sudden change.

@cain: Didn’t Trump take credit for that?

Trump took credit for stopping five wars.  He’s so powerful and dreamy.  🙄

”I look foward to playing it today. We’re going to play it very quickly, and then I go back to (Washington) D.C. and we put out fires all over the world,” he said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new course, alluding in part to a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.

“We stopped a war – we’ve stopped about five wars. So that’s much more important than playing golf.”

@zhena gogolia: Another very small consolation (or clutching at straws, if you are a half-empty type) is that this time around, Trump only won a plurality.

Slightly over 50% of voters chose one of the other three candidates: Harris, Jill Stein (Green party) or whoever was the Libertarian party candidate.

As I said, a very small consolation.

@Shalimar: Well, they don’t have any particular hate for him, they just want him wounded to slow down the butchering of Ukrainians, so, they should see if they can capture him, explain they don’t hate him, not one little bit, then shoot him in the gut. “We’d kill you, but now, you’re going to be taken to a hospital, eventually, where you might receive medical treatment, eventually, and some level of nursing help, like, making sure you’re turned to get fresh dirt in your wounds, eventually, and, that takes even more Russians out of the fight. So, please, understand, this is a purely tactical decision, made without any emotional involvement. If we hated you, we’d probably just kill you, but, hey, we’re not hateful. And we’re sure not ‘woke’ enough to kill you mercifully, so, hey, sucks to be you!”

@WaterGirl: He probably forgets that trafficking women and girls –  and underage girls – is considered wrong.  Because he doesn’t think it’s wrong.

And he likely considered her his property so loaning (pimping) her out was fine, but stealing her was over the line.

@hueyplong: It’s possible Trump was totally ok with pimping his young female employees to Epstein until about 2 weeks ago, and this is his new version of events.

    Agree.

@WaterGirl: And that’s setting aside the fact that Trump doesn’t actually think stopping wars is more important than golf.  He thinks golf is so important that he cheats at it, and he hasn’t stopped a single war.

Just because he feels something is right doesn’t make it so, is what someone needs to tell him. If he feels that what he calls “LGBT indoctrination” is a worse thing than mass, indiscriminate slaughter in the name of empire, then his values…shit, there are no words. I give up.

The paralegals also have a knowing smirk, the effing smart alecks, because they only have to research how many ways this ruins the defense – the attorneys have to try to fix it!

So, yeah – there may be a kernel of truthiness to CBS claiming that it was business, just business, after all, nothing to do with a big fat bribe to the POTUS, but I’m in the por que no los dos? camp myself.
