I’ll never forget (or forgive) the people who delivered the United States to Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, upending a fairly stable post WWII security arrangement that was wildly successful for about 70 years. Mitch McConnell, Mike Johnson, John Cornyn, Chuck Grassley, James Coker and the entire GOP conference had major roles in that.
And now for an anecdote or two: I once called Mitch McConnell a “Howdy Doody looking motherfucker” in the early to mid-80s when he was merely an overly ambitious local official.
I also later learned that he was a chickenhawk from local GOP pols who had despised him, had talked to his police driver and had seen photographic evidence that Barry Bingham (publisher of the Courier Journal) buried in the interest of not exposing the sexual appetites of politicians and maybe as an insurance policy against Addison rising too far too fast during the 80s.
I absolutely believed those guys, because they were lawyers of great integrity and were disgusted about him and teenage boys.

I want to mention rather belatedly, that Ohio Farmer and I managed to meet up personally weekend before last. A few months ago there was an Ohio jackals meet-up that I dearly wanted to get to, but it happened to be in a week when the wife and I were away from the Buckeye State. We had a good confab. Down in Knox County, he’s a lonely Dem in a sea of pink. Mansfield is slightly better, and we can brag that Sherrod Brown is one of ours.
