Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

So many bastards, so little time.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

This blog will pay for itself.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Is trump is trying to break black America over his knee? signs point to ‘yes’.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

We’ve probably said everything that can be said about this until the show starts, but here’s a place to say it all again for the next 20 minutes while we wait for the show to air.

It would be irresponsible not to speculate!

I don’t know how fast clips will show upon-line, but if you find one, please link to it in the comments.

Living on the west side of the country, I have to wait until 11 PT. I’m DVRing it – as I won’t make it “live.” But I WILL watch it in the morning!

Wish I could watch it live on TV. Guess I’ll have to settle for clips on YouTube. My local ABC affiliate is a Nexstar-owned station.

We were able to bully ABC/Disney into doing the right thing, I think Sinclair and Nexstar should be next. I’ve seen people recommend that if you have a Sinclair/Nexstar station in your area, you should watch the local news broadcast and note who their advertisers are. Then call them up and tell them you won’t give them any of your business until Kimmel is back on Sinclair/Nexstar’s stations

Am doing online game; ads for preachers, so many megachurches are tied to Turning Point, no wonder there was such a big turnout for memorials.

FFOTUS is already threatening ABC stations that ARE airing it:

In a new Truth Social post on Tuesday night, Trump said he “can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back.”

“The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled!” Trump wrote. “Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his ‘talent’ was never there. Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE.”

“He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution,” Trump continued. “I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings.”

I hope the ABC stations who do broadcast Kimmel get excellent ratings!

I’m with Cole on this, I’m relieved to be able to go back to not caring about Jimmy Kimmel again.

Now if we could get to the point where I don’t have to hear about Charlie Kirk constantly. After watching a few clips, he reminded me of Rush Limbaugh. I haven’t forgotten Limbaugh but he doesn’t get mentioned much any more and I enjoy that absence.

“”I live like a capitalist every single day, Cenk! I live as a capitalist, okay? I live what I believe!
—Charlie Kirk, losing his temper in a debate with The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, attempting to physically attack the latter.[1]
“”I think it’s worth [it] to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal.
—Charlie Kirk, at a his Turning Point USA event on 04/05/2023 [2][3]
Charles James Kirk (1993–2025)[4] was an American right-wing grifter, trustfund baby, professional meme maker, and diaper enthusiast. He was the founder and spiritual leader of Toilet Paper USA Talking Points USA Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which organizes bizarre conservative stunts on college campuses and (according to an exposé at the conservative leaning Washington Examiner) has a long history of teen underage drinking and rape at its student conventions.[5]

TPUSA claim that they’re a “youth organization that promotes the principles of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government,” when in reality, they’re just a right-wing echo chamber for dying boomers and edgy white boys that takes any chance they can get to insult socialists and anyone left of Henry Kissinger. Most of their Twitter feed consists of calling out socialists for being “hypocrites”[6] (because apparently using an iPhone and buying things to survive instead of living in a cavemen commune invalidates all your left-leaning arguments), complaining about leftist propaganda in the curriculum,[7] making antisemitic and/or rape jokes,[8] preying on naive first year college students instead of debating professionals, pundits and experts, sharing terrible memes, et cetera.

Kirk was also known for his resemblance to the spokesperson for the fictional restaurant Li’l Bits in an episode of Rick and Morty.[9] And he really thought that making “vagina hands” à la Donald Trump[10] made him look badass.[11][12]

On September 10, 2025, Kirk was assassinated by a shot to the neck in a rally at Utah Valley University.[13]

We should never forget; what appeals to so many is that Trump, MAGA and cult have been willing to say the quiet things out loud, in open forums and in broad daylight. So many haven’t changed or become “infected” rather they have been given the freedom to speak and act.

People don’t really care about ICE, they won’t until they are the ones in crosshairs; “they came for.”

The local Sinclair station in DC didn’t air Kimmel. For the first half hour they had a rerun of the 11 o”clock local news that they labeled a “Special Edition” (lol). Then during the ad block at the top of the hour they showed a static card with sponsor acknowledgements for the news for a solid five minutes, no real ads.

I quipped to Ms. Redshift that it was Sinclair’s “Swan Lake”. (Look up Soviet state TV history if you don’t know.) I didn’t watch the news rerun, so I don’t know if it had any actual ads to use as complaint fodder.

Then for the second half hour it was Sinclair’s execrable right wing “The National Desk”.

I’ve never seen that before. Other than sports, everything I watch is recorded so I can ff through commercials. Most news I watch I start at 30 mins in, again so I can ff through commercials. I’ve never noticed a ticker showing # of viewers. I have YouTube TV.

Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel jabbed President Donald Trump’s administration for its pressure campaign to remove his show from TV in a new episode that aired Tuesday night.

Kimmel received a standing ovation when he came out on stage and addressed some of the controversy during his opening monologue.

“You almost have to feel sorry for him,” Kimmel said of the president. “He tried his best to cancel me; instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show. That backfired bigly!”

Yeah, TIL KOMO in Seattle is Sinclair, so fuck them. Not that I watch a lot of local ABC anyway.

I do kinda wonder if the networks can just put up a national feed on YouTube or direct via their streaming services and say FU to affiliates, who are just 20%. Personally I am a cord cutter (fuck you Comcast) and watch broadcast TV via both an aging TiVo and a HDHomeRun setup (which often has issues I find). I suspect just the thread of that may cause the Sinclairs of the world to come to heel, as aside from a handful of local programs they’re just becoming more irrelevant in the age of streaming.
