Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

I really should read my own blog.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Let me file that under fuck it.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Consistently wrong since 2002

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Thursday Late Morning Share the News Open Thread

I am tied up this morning, but it looks like we could use a new thread!   I was tied up yesterday, too.

I did see that Schumer came out with a really strong message, but I know that’s already been covered.

What’s been happening this week?  I see Gov. Pritzker being very vocal about what’s happening in Illinois and around the country.  I see him repeatedly asking everyone to stand up.  Is anyone responding to that.  Are other states standing up in support?

I look forward to the day when the Statue of Liberty covering her eyes isn’t the image that speaks to me for nearly every post these days.

There are protests in Milwaukee proving this is more important than the Cubs-Brewers series to some people.

MILWAUKEE — National Guard troops from Texas and Illinois are being deployed to Broadview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, drawing protests from activists in Milwaukee concerned about the federal presence.

The singers from KPop Demon Hunters, EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, were in The Tonight Show on Tuesday. I watched the segment last night of their interview and performance, and one of the things that Jimmy Fallon got to do was present to them that the soundtrack to the move has gone platinum.

On topic-ish, I was impressed with something Dick Durbin (of all people!) said during Pam Bondi’s recent disgraceful performance on the Hill. Cant remember his exact words, but basically he asked her to remember that the lawless Trump regime won’t hold power forever. I’d like to see more of that.

If I can share some personal news, the deep depression I’ve been in for the past few years is finally starting to lift, thanks to eventually finding the right combination of medication, and good talk therapy, that is (miraculously) covered by my insurance. I feel like I have been in a dark tunnel, and now the tunnel is much higher and a lot of light is getting in. More energy, more hope, and I’ve laughed for the first time in months.

Thanks for letting me put this here.

Cat queen Harvey has decided that none of the toys we have bought interest her today and is playing with a straw taken out of a cup that resident child 1 left on the dining room table.

Watching her try to grab it and bounce it between her paws and toss it up into the air is amusing.

I will pick it up and throw it away later. Right now it is keeping her distracted from the computer cords that she also loves to play with much to my chagrin and annoyance… okay, not annoyance, she’s too cute to be annoying… stupid cute kitty face with the widdle eyes and the adorable widdle whiskers…

I’ve sent in an order to my local serial-killer for extra digits to cross, but considering peace in the region is reliant on Netanyahu, who really, really, really can’t afford the fighting to end, I’m pretty sure the Palestinians on the West Bank have to be looking over their shoulders nervously. I’d expect the Settler attacks there to ramp up to unbearable levels to provoke some kind of cassus belli Netanyahu can jump on.

Republican Tom Homan says he didn’t take a $50,000 cash bribe (he did). But Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse says Homan took the cash in a paper bag (it was specifically a Cava bag). Will either party tell the full truth?

@Enhanced Voting Techniques: it also fits, in a backward way, their desperate attempts to vilify autism and give it a clear cause. I’ve felt for months that RFK must have been told recently that he acts like he’s on the spectrum and his response was, “oh yeah?!?!”

      @rikyrah:

I have to urge my brother to stay in his job — but I don’t know how these premium increases at this job will work vs his current premium for a non-subsidized grandfathered in preACA plan I pay for ($ ~1500/bimonthly). I told him several months ago, that was the cheapest way to do it and not to count on marketplace subsidies.

I love this stupid state and it’s horrible governor with bad contouring.

I have personally seen ACA subsidies being yanked back wreak havoc on taxpayer returns to the tune of $10K. And to think this is all at the behest of some jackwagon who was never made to release his tax returns in the first place.

That doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a genuine increase in its occurrence.  But it sure is getting thrown around a lot.

Times of Israel is a decent source for news on this conlict, and it is not paywalled. They definitely root for the home team but I think the reporting is fairly reliable.

@Enhanced Voting Techniques:  Dude doesn’t have undiagnosed autism and I’m not blaming or crediting any of his behaviors on this.

He’s fully neurotypical and horrible.  Some of his cabinet members and hangers on  may have it, but that’s not an excuse for them either.   Most people with autism, most people who aren’t white or cisgender dudes do not get an autism pass for their behavior.

      It’s entitlement. ENTITLEMENT, ok?

John Elder Robison’s son has autism and got hauled up on federal bomb making charges which he got out of by arguing an intense autistic love of chemistry — which lol, he’d never been able to do if he wasn’t white (and his daddy wasn’t auto repair rich) Amazing, having so much privilege and so little street smarts that this is actually something you get into.

@Rachel Bakes: They’re freaking out because autism can’t be isolated to a specific group of others and it doesn’t care about race or wealth. Maybe.

Let’s try being accurate: What we understand about autism now is that’s it’s more than “can’t communicate with or understand other people” that you can’t just diagnose it by looking at someone or looking in a mirror.

      It was ill-defined before.

So I saw this story about a college professor at Rutgers who wrote a book about antifa. He is trying to flee the U.S. for Spain after receiving credible death threats from right-wingers The story about what happened the first time he tried to leave is chilling – he got all the way to the gate only to find somehow his reservation had been cancelled. This is what FFOTUS’ “war on antifa” is doing.

@iKropoclast: I think Netanyahu understood that this war would have to end. But he never thought Turkiye would end up being one of the agreement’s four Guarantors along with Egypt, Qatar and the U.S.

I checked out Israeli Twitter this morning and they were like, “Turkey? WTF! Turkey!!?.”

They can thank their crafty Prime Minister for this. Netanyahu really stepped on his dick when he authorized that airstrike in Qatar last month. That’s what made Trump’s team realize Netanyahu could blow up the whole region if they did not bring him to heel, and that this war could not be left drifting sideways any longer.

It also created diplomatic space for Turkiye to fill. Its brainy intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin, participated in yesterday’s critical negotiations at Sharm El-Sheikh. Erdogan told Trump last Friday that he would help deliver Hamas and he did.

One thing I keep in mind is that Trump likes and respects Erdogan. Trump does not like Netanyahu and he does not trust him. Anyone who works with the Israeli PM long enough ends up either disliking him or hating his guts outright.

If Trump’s smart, he might realize that this situation turned around because he brought in partners and dropped his unreasonable and directionless demands.
