Watergirl, this is something similar to what I was doing for the neighborhood WhatsApp on Saturday nights, something I called “SATURDAY NIGHT DRUNK MEMING AND MUSIC”, where I would post a bunch of stupid memes and music videos (loosely based on whatever theme was in my head or stuff I had heard during the week).

Anyway, not for everyone, but I find this great background music for work:

    Gentleman ‘ Deep ‘ Radio | Deep House • Chillout • Lounge Music 24/7

For the country fans, how about this classic?

The Amazing Rhythm Aces – Third Rate Romance (Remastered)

ETA:  Something I mentioned during our Zoom meeting, I regularly listen to Hearts of Space and have done so for nearly 40 years.  Strongly recommend the program, which you can stream and get a subscription for $120/year, I think.  Lotsa world music, ambient, electronic, seasonal, etc.

I had the cataract on my left eye removed on 11/27/24. Amazing. I had no idea how distorted my vision was. I have a beautiful oil painting of a winter scene from my parents and I was thinking I needed to get it professionally restored. Shazam! It’s fabulous!

My right eye is being fixed on Monday 12/9/24. Cannot fucking wait! I’m a vet so deciding to get this done was fairly easy – no financial pressure. Highly recommend for all y’all old folks as soon as and if you can. Being able to see clearly again is, truly, miraculous.

Music and more.  One of the best/coolest nutcrackers is back on YouTube.  We saw this 3-4 years ago but then it disappeared so we are very excited it’s back.  The Chinese National Ballet version.  In particular, the costumes are SUPER-cool and very different from traditional European and American versions.  It’s all beautifully Asian in theme.  And it’s refreshing to not have to worry about the Chinese dancers being white people in yellow-face.

We have an awesomely fun choral concert coming up with a wildly divergent program. I’ve been sleeping, eating and dreaming this music for weeks.

Program includes the Daniel Pinkham Christmas cantata — so fun — plus something completely different, “The Ballad of the Brown King” which is a Langston Hughes poem set to music by a Black woman composer in the 40’s, Margaret  Bonds. Our chamber group is doing a totally awesome piece which I love, Morten Lauridsen’s “Mid Winter Songs.” I’m not good at doing links but it’s completely worth googling.

Saturday and Sunday concerts this weekend!

By the way, Neil put a rare recording of him singing Greensleeves on his Log.  He has always used that song as the P. A. tune after his concert ends.  (an instrumental version)

Sure do miss Joe C. He’s one of my idols. Love gravelly voice men. It’s a weakness for me. Judge me. That’s ok.

Had the pleasure of seeing him 4 times. All great shows. St Louis Fox around 1989. Perfect acoustics. Seated somewhere within 20 rows from him. His impression of Belushi was better than Belushi. (Winking emoji)

Second time, not so perfect acoustics but close enough to actually chat with him. Twinkling eyes. Humble man. Cal Neva Lodge near Lake Tahoe around 1992. Intimate setting. Small tables. CNL probably doesn’t exist anymore. It straddled the CA/Nevada border and was a Rat Pack hangout back before my hanging out days. Lots of history. I need to look it up to see what happened to it. The couple of times I was there in the early 1990’s it was living on past glory. On a downward slide.

3rd and 4th times seeing Mr. C were music festivals. He always gave it his all. Sweat flying around.

Loved his cover of Randy Newman’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” from 9 1/2 Weeks. Classic. That song and Van’s “Into the Mystic” are to be played at my funeral. It’s in writing.

In other news, heard a fun band in Sonoita, AZ today. Will post something from their website in a bit for those interested. They are out of Bisbee and coming off of a tour in NOLA. Fun dancing music.  ” Juniper Djinn Jazz.” I bought all their CDs  cause we gotta support live music to have live music.

It’s time for ensembles to make some bank, so (mostly) Christmas themed concerts abound.  Much tradition, hopefully full houses, and for some multiple performances.

Last weekend, I had two, the first a chamber performance of the Telemann opera “Don Quixote”.  (Costumes and props, no sets, orchestra shares the stage with the singers and dancers)

The second was the annual Handel and Hayden society’s “Messiah”.  (Annual as in this was year 172 for them. They gave the original US premiere back in the day)

Last night, it was the Tallis Scholars, a British choral ensemble.  Program based around plainchant from von Bingen thru Praetorius and Lassus, and a bit of Pärt.

Tomorrow I had tickets to a second Messiah, this one by Boston baroque. Two a week apart is a bit much even for me, so my baby brother + SIL get them as a Christmas gift, alternating which ensemble year by year.  (H&H is huge chorus and orchestra, Boston baroque gives a much more intimate performance, closer to what happened in the 18th century)

Upcoming, a 15th century Christmas, a baroque one, and a New Year’s Day baroque program.

@Nukular Biskits: I love Third Rate Romance. It’s one of the songs on my list of things I’d like to play. The list which I’ll finish when I’m, oh, about 180 years old. I’m a slow learner LOL.

@Wyatt Salamanca: and echoes too. We used to have it in Denver on CPR. Sunday nights.

it might be on the boulder and Fort Collins stations. Not easy to tune those in. I’ll go hunt for them, maybe add it to pandora. My Lisa’ Gerard station is getting repetitive.

Anything on the lute. It’s so soothing for the heart, sweet and smooth, helpful during difficult times.

here’s a guy giving a tour of an interesting lute. He plays 3 snippets of pieces, starting at the 3 minute mark. The tour and explanation is very interesting for the music geeks. I’m going to go looking for more of this guy.
