Where has the summer gone?
There are fewer than 90 left before the Virginia elections in November.
First, I want to give a big thanks to our 3 Balloon Juice Angels who have basically gotten us through the first $10k of our $30k fundraising! We couldn’t do it without you!
We still have $700 on left on our the third Angel Match! Matching up to $100 per person when you tell us about your donation in a comment or in an email to me.

Earlier this week I mailed the final raffle prize that I had in my possession – the star earrings
that went to lowtechcyclistwill be an anniversary present for lowtechcyclist’s lucky spouse, I had previously mailed the hammered copper earrings that were so gorgeous that I wanted them for myself! (But I knew when I purchased them that they would never be mine, so that’s okay, it was baked into the cake.)The two quilts should be mailed soon – OJ has the quilts and the mailing addresses.
I hear they are pretty busy… something related to Virginia? :-)

@H.E.Wolf: This off-year cycle excites me. Two of my favorite Democrats are running for Governor– Rep. Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey and former Rep. Abigail Spanberger in Virginia. Sherrill has the tougher race.
Abigail Spanberger used to be my Congresswoman. Rep. Eugene Vindman (VA07) holds that seat now.

I’ve been writing postcards to Virginia. We had a session yesterday. As you probably know, you just sign your first name, or any name you want. Someone jokingly suggested she would sign hers “Ivanka,” which made me laugh.

@H.E.Wolf: I cannot resist pointing out that Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill are two talented members of the Democratic House Class of 2018. Two other class members– Andy Kim and Elissa Slotkin– are Senators now, while another– former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland– is the likely Democratic nominee for Governor of New Mexico next year.

@H.E.Wolf: Yes, I have had good luck recently. I credit the two special redistricting masters appointed by Virginia’s Supreme Court in 2021, after the new redistricting commission deadlocked. They moved Greene County into the 7th CD.
I had been stuck in the 5th CD with Bob No-Good. Before that I lived Augusta County and my Reps were Bob Goodlatte and Ben Cline. They were bad enough, but Good was horrible; just a nasty man.
