president dementia boomer having a great posting weekend
— GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachine.com) September 28, 2025 at 6:04 PM
i don’t think he was supposed to post this. this is a company lobbying for medical cannabis, specifically for medicare coverage of it, and i think they made a whole commercial for an audience of one. “YOU will…” “cementing YOUR legacy,” millions will thank you… this was just for trump
The video under discussion:
Trump, who has frequently called for the execution of all drug dealers, just posted a video promoting CBD oil for seniors.
The end of the video promotes a group called the Commonwealth Project, which advocates for medical cannabis use:

i am somewhat more convinced each day — which is not to say that i'm certain, or even, like, *super* convinced, just more — that trump isn't going to be able to finish his second term, or at least, won't be able to while remaining in the public eye
— GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachine.com) September 28, 2025 at 6:36 PM
those little moments of candor about who he is, and what's happening around him, are getting more frequent, in ways that mirror the fleeting moments of clarity that people suffering dementia get as the real bad times take hold

A pity the “president old” beat was retired across elite journalism on January 20.
— Nick S (@holgate.permanent.red) September 28, 2025 at 6:40 PM
Oh come now, Biden is definitely still old according to many journalists.

Aziz, light!
I’m counting on Melania to step in, like Edith Wilson or Nancy Reagan’s astrologer.

Sad day today, we have had 3 mass shootings. Just another happened tonight that isn’t the church one.
We had one in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and North Carolina. I think there was also one in Texas in a casino.
As far as I can tell so far I think all of them are white. Not sure about MAGA or not.
featheredsprte
Well, edibles are good for joint pain.
West of the Rockies
The news about the Michigan shooter is coming out pretty slowly. I find myself wondering if he is MAGA, and they don’t want to admit it.
Gretchen
@cain: The Michigan guy had a Trump/Vance sign on his fence.

Fair Economist
@Gretchen:
Yeah, and it was a Mormon church (temple?) I’m betting it’s a “Christian” MAGA-ite stopping those eee-vul heretic Mormons from stealing souls from Christ.
The Founders had very good reasons to choose a secular state. As the nuttier branches of Christianity gain political power, we may be due for remedial education on why that was a good idea.
They’re trying to hide this because Mormons have mostly been supportive of the Republican takeover (yes, I know about Harry Reid; I said mostly). They don’t want Mormons to start thinking about. what a Dominionist takeover means for *them*.
JaySinWa
@featheredsprte: I thought edibles meant no joint.
ETA no joint, no joint pain obvs. Joints are kind of a pain.

I love the photo. And it’s by Ozark.

The Fast and the Furious – ICE edition
Geminid
@Gretchen: Pictures I’ve seen of the Michigan shooter’s Trump/Vance show it mounted directly over a highway “Stop” sign, so there’s some ambiguity here. There will be more reporting about political affiliation about his political affiliation though.
Soprano2
@Gretchen: He had two American flags in the pickup bed. That’s one of their “signatures”.
Shalimar
I am strongly in favor of intensive scientific research into medical marijuana, because the anecdotal evidence is very good for its pain management effect. Of course, this administration has apparently decided to stop funding any scientific research, so not the best time to lift that ban.
Matt McIrvin
@Fair Economist: The guy who shot Charlie Kirk had a Mormon background, and after it happened, Steve Bannon made some remarks about how it happened because the Mormons were too soft, practically liberals. So there’s probably a wave of hard-right anti-Mormonism brewing.
Trivia Man
@Fair Economist: Mormon wingnut spin – the media played up the mormon connection of the kirk shooter. Instead of the liberal transgender activist angle. Therefore… the media bamboozeled a poor, suffering, PTSD veteran who loves trump and freedom
satby
@West of the Rockies: He was a war vet who flew double American flags from the bed of his giant pickup truck, supported Trump/Vance, and had lots of MAGA social media posts. That much was known. So if national “news” isn’t reporting it, check out British or Canadian news sources.
satby
@Matt McIrvin: ok, I didn’t connect the Kirk shooting to a backlash attack by a wingnut, but that makes sense. Especially since there were also reported incendiary devices that set off that fire. They’re still looking for potential victims from that.
MagdaInBlack
@satby: I had not seen anything about the MAGA connection other than Betty yesterday mentioned the flags.
Now I know why I’m seeing nothing.
satby
@Baud: post removed?
OTOH, Pritzker has his State’s Attorney reviewing footage of ICE attacks on family members, bystanders, and demonstrators to identify and bring charges against ICE perps, as are some of the local police departments. Long overdue. Looking forward to seeing charges filed.
satby
@MagdaInBlack: well, the tabloids got there first. But the area he’s from, north of Detroit, is wingnutty red. Everything else reported fits the profile.
The shooter in N.C. is also a vet, clearly suffering mental issues, who constantly complained about LGTB+ “assaults” on white Xtian males. They’ll be able to make the lone wolf with insanity case against him easier, so that may get reported better.
rikyrah
@cain:
North Carolina was a Boat By.😒😒😒
satby
@Kayla Rudbek: There’s known solutions. No idea why this doesn’t get fixed.
Actually, I have a very good idea of why.
satby
@Geminid: in that part of MI, stop signs are target practice and an unfair governmental intrusion into FREEDUM!
Geminid
@satby: The pictures I saw showed that this guy had a standard stop sign hanging on a fence or wall. The Trump/Vance sign was set right above it. There was plenty of room on either side, so I took it as expression of animus towards Trump.
But I’m guessing that the man has acquaintances, friends and family who will shed more light on his politics and motivation; also, his mental state. There’ll be a lot of local and state media reporting on these questions. I’ll try to check them out.
Matt McIrvin
@satby: He could have had any number of motivations at this point. But that’s one possibility.
Another is that it’s part of the same pattern as the shooting of Kirk, and several other recent assassinations and mass shootings that have happened recently: a guy who comes from a conservative, violence- and gun-friendly background suddenly finds himself either hurt or disturbed by recent political craziness, and responds the only way he really understands, not by pestering his elected representatives or going to a protest, but with violence.
satby
@Geminid: one of the best “straight” news reports of it came from CBC, the Canadian network.
Matt McIrvin
@satby: The NC shooting hits home because the town reminds me so much of where my parents live, and the place he shot up from his boat is just like the waterfront bars there.
satby
@Matt McIrvin: So time for the Onion to again reprise the headline.
satby
There was also a shooting in NOLA on Bourbon Street that seems to have faded from the news already. The dead woman was visiting from Chicago; my daughter-in-law from Chicago was also in NOLA for a bridal shower this weekend.
WTFGhost
@featheredsprte: Also, Tylenol is good for bone pain. I say this, because my wife, who does hospice (think bone cancer) says that Tylenol is good for bone pain. You know that Tylenol, they put in opiates, to keep people from gobbling them, which never works and only damages their livers? Well, the only good part of it, is, sometimes, the pain is bone pain, and the Tylenol actually helps.
Also: never OD on anything containing Tylenol, unless you’re sure you’ve suppressed your breathing enough to die, because Tylenol kills your liver, slowly, and liver failure, post-suicide, is one of the worst ways to die. I’d far rather blow half my brains out, and be kept nominally alive on life support. As Dorothy Parker put it, “Gas smells awful, nooses give, poison tastes bitter, you might as well live.”
(I’m sure I’ve misquoted, or misplaced, the line re: poisons are bitter, but, the essential truth of the poem, “might as well keep effing living, no matter how effing hard and painful it is,” remains.
ETA: I’ve been through a rough weekend with lots of pain. “I won’t die,” has become laughable to me. You folks who care about other people, you might see my flippancy about my own life to be upsetting, for which I’m sorry, but, not sorry enough to clench down on flippancy. I’m alive. That’s a good thing.
But I will try not to be a butt about it or anything.
WTFGhost
@Matt McIrvin: Someone somewhere spoke about a kind of despair where people shoot up an area because they can’t think of anything more meaningful. They know they’ll die – they often die of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. It’s like suicide by cop, but bigger, and worse. Once you realize they might charge you with “attempted murder of everyone within 100 yards…” dying of a self-inflicted wound is easier, for at least enough time to pull a trigger.
Sorry – I am in a very morbid, very “understanding of the ways people kill themselves,” mood.
It’s all in remembrance of a doctor, who accused me of aggression, after browbeating me for answers, having been told I can’t think straight, or speak properly, because of pain. It was at a pain clinic, where I was told going “HAH!!!” in a frustrated voice, was ‘aggressive’. I’m so, so, sorry, I’ve forgotten the face of my father, I’m a horrible person who you, the doctor, thinks should want to die, and so, I want to die, so, thanks for proper instruction, ‘doctor’. I won’t die – I’ve also learned not to die, even if a doctor thinks I should want to, but, that’s me, always being an asshole.
Paul in KY
@cain: I bet they’re all MAGA to one degree or the other.
Paul in KY
@Matt McIrvin: I bet that’s why he shot up their temple and murdered those poor people.
Paul in KY
@rikyrah: Them thar liebruls eating their tasty shrimps & drinking commie fruited drinks….

@WTFGhost: I’m so sorry you have to endure this pain. I hope you get a good caring doctor who will get you the proper pain meds to get you in a better place.
Marc
@WTFGhost: I can emphasize with everything you say. I’m going through a similar level of anger/frustration with my medical center, not so much about pain this time, more like how do they train you people to diagnose things in such a fucked up way? I had two doctors tell me off (online) Friday for refusing to do more tests until they answered a question I had asked both. The specialist picked up on what I was getting at, she called me immediately, apologized, and we discussed what was missed and that my primary care was a dumbass for not looking into that earlier. My primary care sort of walked it back, but the real problem is that he did 2 or 3 annual physical examinations without noticing something that was both freaking obvious and that he should have been looking for as part of a routine physical examination. Doctors are humans, good and bad at various parts of their jobs.
Hang in there, find a doctor who understands you…
Citizen Alan
Nah. It’s Kirk related.
apocalipstick
@Fair Economist: There is also a lunatic fringe theory that Charlie Kirk was killed by an exploding microphone fabricated by the Mormons and the Jooz.
