Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Stand up, dammit!

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

T R E 4 5 O N

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

As I mentioned last night, we are sending DougJ and Mistermix to NRN. The ads are paying for the registration, but we need to raise about 1300-1400 dollars for hotel expenses. So far, we are up to about $485.00. If you have some spare scratch, help send our Balloon Juice correspondents to Netroots Nation.

I’m going to do a post where I ask all of you what kinds of trouble you want me (and mistermix, assuming he’s game) to make while we’re there. I’d really like input on this, because the first two times I went, back when I was a local blogger and didn’t have readers to suggest things, I felt like I missed a lot of opportunities for that.

Why are you spending $350 per night for a hotel room in Providence?

It would be far more useful to send that money to Elizabeth Warren or the Wisconsin recall, where it would actually make a difference, instead of a self-indulgent wank fest?

Then smugly shake your head at anyone who still believes that political power though traditional institutions actually matters.

ETA: Muttering “No labels, dude” under your breath whenever anyone says “Democrat” or “Green” would help set the character.

    @Suffern ACE:
Gawd. I heard that idiot on some NPR show today. He pretty much said exactly this on the show:

I have seen this firsthand in my family. One of my daughters has spent the last few years in the developing world working in healthcare and will be returning to this country this year to attend medical school. My other daughter spent a year in American Samoa in the World Teach program, another year in AmeriCorps, and is now in graduate school in social work. Neither cares one whit about the political system generally or electoral politics specifically. When we talk about their lack of interest in the current campaign or about legislative initiatives, they tell me, “We live our politics.”

Lemme guess…his daughters come from an upper middle class background and graduated from college without debt, right? What do I win?

And how is that sort of trajectory any different from upper middle class kids over the last 40 years or so? Not all that much, except maybe with a bit more overseas volunteer work. The lack of interest in politics and the “we live our politics” nonsense is right out of 1960’s hippie era talk. Patchouli for the win!

    Suffern ACE

    May 22, 2012 at 9:17 pm

@Violet: I did have to laugh that he called it “DIY” politics, when many of the examples he gave were of young people, including his own, joining well established and well funded volunteer programs.

    interesting.

It’s an election year and none of the candidates or congressional leaders are coming to NN (except for 2 time loser Bruner).

Elizabeth Warren isn’t showing up. Tammy Baldwin isn’t showing up. Pelosi isn’t showing up. etc.
