Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

You know he’s going to shit a cat.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Stand up, dammit!

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

The revolution will be supervised.

Palin suggests legislation Obama already wrote and got passed:

Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”

There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.

Just saw a new McCain ad. It seems that if Obama is elected he will tax us all into oblivion and expand the federal government so that it – and this is the surprising thing – literally engorges itself and physically engulfs the entire mid-atlantic coast and is (presumably, from the graphic) inhabited by some species of giants like the ones from the Harry Potter series.

I thought it was just the beltway traffic that did that.

Jebus. Is this really the only way that Obama’s transparency law can get any attention? Hopefully McCain will talk about how he wants a new nuclear material anti-proliferation act with Sen. Lugar.

I just read a story about the growth of “tent cities”. They are springing up in Reno, Columbus, Chatanooga and other locales. It seems that the homeless population has greatly increased in response to the foreclosures.
I don’t live in a big city, nor a moderate sized one, so I’m curious if the story about the increase of “tent cities” is based on observable events in your environs that might substantiate the story I read.
    Thanks in advance….and geesh!

*LOL* I just scared the ever loving treacle out of a debt collector. I swear I could almost hear his scrotum retreating into his nether regions as I was speaking to him. (I am a paralegal for one of the most respected attorneys in our judicial district and I DO NOT OWE THE DEBT). It was fun cause they had left the intimidating and scarey (to normal people) “we have issued a summons against you for service in Bloggs County to place a lien on your assets” After I had got through reciting the law with reference to debt collection, liens, judgments, unfair and deceptive trade practices, punitive damages, fair debt collections act, etc., to this poor guy at the law firm who answered the phone I think he might have been considering a career change. I ended my call with a cheery “oh and I shall be calling the NC State Bar in the morning, have a nice evening”.

So the “hacker” broke into Sarah Palin’s email account by… switching her password.

It depresses me to no end that “independents” in Cuyahoga County may be deciding if I expatriate to Switzerland.

I hate to be such a poll whore, but it’s starting to look good, and in some cases very good, for Obama. It’s also looking good in some Senate cases. We’re definitely in the game in North Carolina and Indiana. And did anyone see that Senate poll out of Georgia? Martin’s only down by seven. Maybe it’s an outlier, but hell, with the infrastructure of Obama’s campaign in place, perhaps he can make a run for it. Wouldn’t it nice to take out that piece of shit Chambliss?

    John,

Who are the people in those WV uniforms? They are’t the same ones that were running all over everybody for the past several years. This team is a shell of its former self. They miss that Owen Schmidt dude. And Steve Slayton.

So, John, who are you hoping the ‘Eers hire as the new coach?

If the Vols go 5-7 (which may be a best case scenario) I hope we get dibs on Holtz from ECU. WV can have the fat ignorant redneck Fulmer if they want him.

I don’t live in a big city, nor a moderate sized one, so I’m curious if the story about the increase of “tent cities” is based on observable events in your environs that might substantiate the story I read.

Chattanooga’s tent city has been around for almost 5 years now… I thought Norfolk Southern bulldozed it last year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s sprung back up again.
