Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Everybody saw this coming.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

I Apologize

I take back everything bad I have ever said about John McCain:

“If anyone came to my hometown in Phoenix, AZ and set off a bomb on a bus and killed 18 people and injured 100 of them, my citizens would expect us to respond,” US Senator John McCain, R-Ariz, told reporters in answer to a question about whether he approved of Bush’s condemnation of Israel’s attempt on Hamas leader Rantisi’s life.

“Do you want to call that a cycle of violence? You can call it what you want, but these acts of terror, these organizations, funded by the Saudis, at least encouraged by Yasser Arafat, are inexcusable in their tactics

Consider this quote from a Hamas spokesman in Haaretz:

“These threats don’t frighten Hamas or the Palestinian people, because the occupation has already made use of everything at its disposal to end the intifada and the Palestinian resistance.”

Hopefully, Hamas is soon going to find out how untrue that statement is.

The truth is, the Sharon government is showing a lot more carrot than I expected to go with the longstanding stick. That means it’s possible, as well as necessary, to go after the political (and tactical) support of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. One idea might be removing settlements ONLY in the areas where Hamas and IJ are weak, with a promise that others will follow if and when Hamas is dismantled elsewhere.

I think the question about Rantisi, BTW, is not justification, but whether it was counterproductive (this has been the case with many other assassinations, even of skilled bombmakers who are hard to replace, not press flacks, who are not).
