Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

People are weird.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Let there be snark.

Republicans do not trust women.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

So fucking stupid, and still doing a tremendous amount of damage.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Are All Democrats Now Insane?

While the Republicans have thrown out all of their principles and have now become the new Democrats, spending irresponsibly and greedily creating the Prescription Drug entitlement as a new Republican vote-buying scheme, the Democrats appear to have thrown out all of their senses. For months, Democrats have been flailing about, attacking blindly, taking partisan cheapshots, and generally behaving like mean-spirited, unprincipled, snot-nosed teenagers who just had their pet Congress taken away. Apparently, this is not a phemonenon that is limited to national politics, and Democrats have become nuts EVERYWHERE:

As Gov. Mitt Romney basked yesterday in newfound hero status over his role in rescuing a family whose boat sank in Lake Winnipesaukee, irked Democrats tried to torpedo his big splash with partisan politics.

After the Herald reported the GOP governor’s rescue effort, Romney found himself in a media frenzy, including national TV headlines.

But some Democrats complained that Romney was vacationing while lawmakers debate vetoes he imposed cutting dozens of human service programs.

“There are lots of people drowning in the commonwealth right now who would certainly welcome a rescue,” said Rep. Jay R. Kaufman (D-Lexington).

They have just gone plain mad.

*** Update ***

Compare Mitt Romney’s behavior in the water rescue to the senior Senator from the same state. And Democrats are pissed about Romney. Snicker.

What the hell did you expect from the people’s republic of taxachusetts?!

The Democratic reaction to Romney reminds me of a line LBJ used: “If one morning I walked on top of the water across the Potomac River, the headline that afternoon would read PRESIDENT CAN’T SWIM.”

    Morons.

I’m not entirely clear here: politicans are “plain mad” because they are — what is the term? Oh, yes. Partisan.

Well, yes, indeed, that certainly is mad, and, of course, entirely confined to one side of the political spectrum. On the other, we have only statesmen such as Tom Delay, Grover Nyquist, Karl Rove, and commentators such as Ann Coulter.

Clearly these Democrats are indeed “mad,” and entirely different from sane Republicans.

    Clearly.

    Respectfully,
    gf

Gary- There is a difference between being partisan and being a lunatic- the man helped to save 6 lives, and the Dems are trying to pisss all over it and turn it into a political issue.

And I also think Delay is nuts.

BTW, Gary- the nuttiness of the attacks from the Democrats is making me reflexively defensive about Bush- and ther man has done a NUMBER of things that really irritate me. IF they would calm down and quit trying to turn EVERYTHING he does or says (see “Bring em ON) into the biggest scandal ever, they would have much more traction. As it is, I just laugh them off- and Bush may or may not be getting away with murder because of the lunacy of the left.

I have to agree with John Cole on this one. (lightning strikes my head, tinfoil helmet grounds it out).

The Democrats are the masters of the tame, tepid, and timid rhetoric.

I can’t watch Dainty Dashle on TV without wanting to slap him Don Corleone style, “You can act like a MAN! What’s the matter with you!”

This a fighter? Kaufman will probably apologise. And tear up on TV.

Did I wake up in Bizarro world? Barney agrees with John?

But it is hard to disagree with the lunacy of this particular partisan attack.

He agreed, yes, but he then followed it up with:

The Democrats are the masters of the tame, tepid, and timid rhetoric.

I’d discount anything he said before or after something like that. Guilt by association, dontcha know.

Yet another reason why there are no real electable Democratic candidates in the fray: Core Democrats have an emotional investment in the idea that George W. Bush is an idiot; if conservatives believe they are conservative because they have more common …
