Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

T R E 4 5 O N

“But what about the lurkers?”

Stay strong, because they are weak.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

“Alexa, change the president.”

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

You know he’s going to shit a cat.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Call Congress and tell them to take care of the kids.

As Atrios often says, “We just love love love our children so much!” General Kelly probably thinks they are sacred!

Free Market Jesus loves the children,
All the children of the world
Be they yellow, black or white,
They are precious in his sight,
Free Market Jesus loves the children of the world
As long as they are not refugees, Latinos, or Muslims, or trouble making blacks, and don’t need health insurance, the lazy moochers.

It’s a sin how the media has allowed this story to disappear.

@Mary G: The Congress will pass a budget tonight that cuts 1 1/2 trillion from medicare and medicaid tonight. It hasn’t been mentioned, but I blame Trump. He creates such chaos, that most journalists are running from one story to the next.

We can’t worry about children when some general officer somewhere might have a case of the sad feels…

    Paging Anderson Mayhew*:

CNN chyron says under Senate plan $ goes to consumers, not insurers (no sound on gym tv). CNN correct? If Y, any implications for plan offerings, consumer choices?

*Excellent name for James Spader-like teen character.

@Mary G: the USA right now is like a car we ignore all the funny sounds coming from it and refuse to do any maintenance on. It’ll keep running for a while, but sooner or later it’s going to fall apart.

Who knows if it helps or not, but I’ve made 30-50 calls about CHIP and other issues.
    @MaryG you nailed it!

No level of hell is grotesque enough for the lousy Republican bastards who hold children’s health care hostage for their ideological evil. There’s nothing this filth does that doesn’t reek of the most vile of things.

Portman’s interns have told me that he supports CHIP and will be voting for it — I’ve called every couple of days since it expired.

At first, I took that as good news. I mean, if Mr. Typical Republican is for it, maybe it’s safe?

But then I looked at myself in the mirror and shook my head. I am smarter than letting my hopes interfer with really seeing what is going on. It is silly to trust any Republican.

@JPL: Yes, Trump creates chaos but that is not why the budget with its drastic tax cuts is not being highlighted.

It is because journalists are in the business of selling stories. Weinstein sells papers/gets eyeballs, so they run with that. Not too many people want to read the details of a proposed federal budget.

I am related by marriage to two newspaper people. I will never forget the state editor gushing about a local hatchet murder that was really bumping up the circulation numbers to new highs. In front of my then eight year old, who didn’t need to hear all the grisly details.
