This place is nicer than my hospital. I might come here and bark the next time I am unwell.
Lily is in the back being assessed. It’s a small thing, but the way the nurse so gently picked up Lily was very reassuring.

I’m thinking about her – and you – constantly.
feebog
Hoping all goes well and you and Lily make it back home safe and sound.

Thank you so much for these updates. I’m glad they’re taking good care of her.

I have no doubt that every nurse, doctor, and technician who comes in contact with Lily will fall in love instantly and will treat her with the greatest care. Poor baby, we are thinking of her with love.

So sorry you and Lily are going through this! —aimai

Poor Lily! I’m glad she’s getting the best care from people who know how to treat a special little girl.
Hang in there, John, and don’t panic or despair unless you’re told there’s a reason to. You might be just an hour or two away from an effective treatment plan, and Lily could be well on her way back to being her old self very soon.

Lily and you are on my mind.

Poor Lilypuppeh. Hope she gets fixed right up.

best of luck, Lily.

Thank you for the updates and keeping us connected with you and Lily. Sending every good wish, and I love seeing the paw tuffets…

Good you have a sense of humor through all this. And she is absolutely beautiful. She will be fine. She will.
Emma
Poor sweetie. Thanks for keeping us updated. I have so many online pet friends through this blog and I worry about all of them when they hurt.

John,
You are in good hands. I had my pup there last fall for an 11 pm Friday night emergency visit (turned out to just be a nasty bit of kennel cough) and the staff was fantastic.
lollipopguild
Ear scratches for both of you.

The current generation of veterinary specialist hospitals are amazing. We’ve used the one in Nashville and been very happy with the way they treated our patient. So glad you could take Lily to these folks. If she has to stay, can you leave her something that smells like home? Anything you are wearing would probably work, although you might not get it back.

Wow, that does look like a posh place, and it is reassuring that the nurse treated sweet Lily with the love and care she deserves. Lily has that going for her, plus the hopes and positive thoughts of many crabby people on the internet. And you, of course.
The Moar You Know
My wife gently teases me but it’s true: our dog is the son I’ll never have. And he adores me. Looks to me for everything. I come unglued when he gets diarrhea or an eye infection.
As it turns out, it’s perfectly OK for agnostics and atheists to pray and I have been praying for Lily and for you, John, because I have a pretty good idea of what’s going on in your head and I figure you both could use the help.
Get better, Lily. Your dad needs you.
Patricia Kayden
Hugs and kisses and belly scratches for Lily.

Good luck !

@The Moar You Know:
Prayer is your positive energy going out into the universe. How the universe reacts to that energy (and how you feel from the release) is the real special part.

Wishing Lily a speedy recovery. She’s such a good girl!

Best wishes for Lily (and you, John). I’m so sorry she’s ill — I know the feeling of being worried when one of your fur babies has to go to the hospital.
Ruckus
Lily looks pretty relaxed and that’s a good sign.
trollhattan
Poor girl. Dogs seem to react to hospital visits as though they did something wrong. Hard to explain “you’re not in trouble” to them.
Best wishes to you both!
spudgun
Aww, hang in there, Lily-girl! Poor boo…
NotMax
Can’t make out the wording on it, curious what the sign next to what appears to be a candle says.
Mj_Oregon
Thinking of you both today and wishing for the best outcome possible for the lovely Lily.
Sis
Poor baby Lily! I hope she feels better soon!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Cole.
I know this is hard on you and Lily.
Sending prayers to you both.

Ah Cole, in that pic I can see that she feels unwell. I do hope they can help her. You and she are in my thoughts. It’s such a helpless feeling to have a sick animal.
Bjacques
Sweet doggo. May Anubis protect her and keep her healthy.
donnah
Bless her heart, lying there like a sweetie pie. Here’s hopes for a quick diagnosis, simple treatment, and full recovery.
Hang in there!

Those pictures made me cry. I spent most of my first four years at UCLA’s hospital, so I hate them. So glad to hear that the nurse was kind and gentle. Waiting is terrible, but she is in the best hands.
Currants
Oh, sweet Lily! And it’s not a small thing that the nurse handled her gently, John. Small things are everything. Sending you both my best energy.
la caterina (Mrs. Johannes)
@NotMax: Most likely the sign says something to the effect that when the candle is lit it means someone in the facility is saying goodbye to a dear pet. There’s something similar at our upstate vet in Albany.
Citizen_X
I hope things work out well for Lily. And you, John.

Biomedical Researcher Here:
I did a bit of research into the condition and underlying mechanism, with good news to report.
Transfusion should make an immediate impact on Lily for the better.
Immunosuppressive drugs (prednisone) are typically a very effective treatment regimen against Thrombocytopenia, especially in older doggies.
Keep breathing!

Thank you for the picture. Lily looks kind of resigned. She will be so much happier in the car, when she recognizes home.
I hope the hospital can work its magic on Ms. Lily.

Kindness from hospital/vet personnel is unbelievably important; I’m so glad to hear that Lily’s in good & gentle hands. We’re with you both!

Best wishes for Lily; we all thought you’re tweets WERE barking….maybe just growls

Aaahhhh, sweet, sweet Lily. She must’ve been so happy to see you this morning John. You can tell she doesn’t feel good. Thank you for keeping us posted…thinking about you guys.

Poor sweet things (Lily and her Master). Best wishes for a good outcome. I remember the Lily adoption posts. She lucked out then, she should keep her lucky streak going

I’m pulling for you two!
(What a strange expression that is.)

John, you and Lily are in our thoughts and agnostic prayers. She’s so sweet she has made all of us nicer people. Take care of you; it’s not easy to be the caring parent when the pup is so sick.
We’re with you!
Kristine
@JamesKPolkEsq: Thanks for the positive news. It’s easy to stumble over nothing but rabbit holes of despair when researching illnesses online.
Mnemosyne
Aww, she looks so patient. We are all hoping for the best, and Dr. Google says that the odds are in her favor.
MoxieM
Such a sweet doggle. It’s so hard when they look like they feel blue and unwell. She’s very lucky to have you as her human, and from comments (hopeful!) it sounds like we can hope she’ll be feeling better soon.
Annie
Thank you for the update on Lily. Best wishes for the sweet girl and for you.

Riley sends her love as well.

Tell Lily we are all thinking of her, and you. My cats, Louie and Hugh, send their best wishes too and in her honor have temporarily suspended their prejudice against canines.

Looks a lot like the emergency clinic near me. I guess they all have similar designs.
It’s good when the medical staff show they understand how important the critter: that bodes well for the examination.
Fingers crossed for good news!
WaterGirl
Lily looks like such a big dog in the photo! But I know she’s still our tiny, petite girl. I love you, sweet girl.
MomSense
Thank you for the update. You and Lily are in my thoughts today. Sending healing and support to you both.

Thinking of you and Lily, John. You are kind to share these updates. Sending you much strength at this time.

So much love to you two during this ordeal. Hoping everything falls the best way possible as you deal with all this.

Sending good thoughts to darling Lily and you.

Missed the original announcement in real time, but pulling for you and Lily over here in CO!

Dear, sweet Lily… pulling for you, girl.
Scamp Dog
Yep, those advanced veterinary hospitals are impressive places. Biscuit got her last care at one, and the staff were great: good to her and good to me. Hope all works out well for your sweet girl! We all love her and the stories you tell about her.
Paul W.
Pet care is stressful for so many reasons, they trust us and we want the best from them but we only know so much about what is going on because generally they are good at hiding things while most humans I meet seem to be hypochondriacs.
I hope Lily is as good as new when you get her back John!
