Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

The National Guard is not Batman.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

How stupid are these people?

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Pat Buchanan makes a funny about drowning Levi Johnston and the cast of “Morning Joe” laughs.

I’m not saying it’s wrong to make jokes about the deaths of others (I do it myself sometimes), but remind me again why Wanda Sykes’ jokes about Rush Limbaugh offended everyone so much.

I also wonder: why not cut out the middle man and replace Joe and Mika with Sarah and Levi? I’m not kidding.

Levi might actually be more tolerable than Scarborough, but I’ll take Mika over Sarah any every day of the week.

It’s not that Mika is so great, but that Sarah is So. Bloody. Awful. Palin’s grammar and incoherence drive me right up the fucking wall.

    Water dissolving…and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Carry the water at the bottom of the ocean
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down

Into the blue again/after the moneys gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Who cares! In his latest Human Events column, Buchanan lands this gem:

Where Beijing floods its borderlands with Han to reduce indigenous populations to minorities, and stifles religious, ethnic and linguistic diversity, America, declaring, “Diversity is our strength!” invites the whole world to come to America and swamp her own native-born.
    …
Without the assent of her people, America is being converted from a Christian country, nine in 10 of whose people traced their roots to Europe as late as the time of JFK, into a multiracial, multiethnic, multilingual, multicultural Tower of Babel not seen since the late Roman Empire.

In a column that, as far as I can tell, supports the current Chinese crackdown of the Uighur population in Xinjiang, or, at the very least, is “concerned” about the U.S.’s commitment to preserving the “blood and soil” of the “American people” from the “savage” “tribalism” of “diversity,” and “multiethnic” “elites.” All the while decrying “ethnonationalism”! It is to cry. Really. Read the whole thing – it’s a keeper. Link here [Warning! Link leads to HumanEvents dot com! Click at your own peril.]

And they let this guy on television, and let him talk about the day’s events! It makes me quite upset.

[eta: Holy shit, the comments there are . . . remarkable. Truly.]

Together they are not host material. However it would fit Jerry Springer’s format. With Palin’s family, they could fill a whole week. “My murderous Ex-brother in law the cop,”
could be one episode. “Gramma’s drug dealing left my grandson a bastard” could be another. The week could end with “How I cast out the devil and became Governor.”

The train wreck factor would make Sarah hosting a morning show somewhat tempting to watch. But I can’t listen to that woman for more than about ten seconds without having to cover my ears. She makes my head hurt. Nails on chalkboard for sure.

Besides, she can’t host a morning show. That would mean she’d have to Do Work, something she’s obviously allergic to. Unless it’s for staged photo ops, of course. But showing up day after day, making small talk with people deemed more important than she is? No way. She’d end up bolting – for the good of America, of course – after a few weeks.

Oh noes! We’re being turned into one of the most powerful and enduring states in the history of mankind!

It was, in fact, Rome’s discarding its historical multi-culturalism that in large part contributed to its downfall. They didn’t turn Celts into a minority in Gaul, they turned Celts into Romans. Just as they’d done with the Iberians, the Berbers, the Greeks, the Etruscans, the Sabines,Samnites, Umbrians and Oscii before them. Their unwillingness to later do the same thing to the Germans, aided in no small part by the intolerance of Christians in regards to pagans, led directly to the fall of the western empire.

    Levi’s my favorite Palin.
He was at home, minding his own goddamn business, when the massive campaign apparatus swooped in and put him at that horrible, hateful convention.
They marketed Levi, for a very specific and completely dishonest purpose, used him, and then expected him to quietly disappear.
Just sickening how they used him, but you know what? He’s the father of that baby, and they’re going to know him and see him weekly for the next 18 years.

This is slightly off-topic, but it would be OT in any of the current threads, so . . .

I was watching the President’s announcement this morning of his Surgeon General pick, a rural physician from Bayou La Batre, Alabama. I didn’t know much about her but from the bio info on CNN and from the Pres and Dr. Regina Benjamin herself, she sounds wildly well-qualified and a fantastic human being besides.

So I mentioned to a colleague who was watching the announcement with me, “How long do you think it will take before the wingnuts start twisting her story to suit their own purposes?” Didn’t have to wait long. According to Media Matters’ “Limbaugh Wire” Rush had a comment during his first hour today:

Reading from an Associated Press article on Obama’s selection, Rush characterized Benjamin as a black, environmentalist, Katrina survivor who “doesn’t think doctors should make a profit,” adding: “What more could you want?” Rush’s claim that Benjamin thinks doctors should not make a profit is, as far as we can tell, based on the AP’s reporting that she is “a rural Alabama family physician who made headlines with fierce determination to rebuild her nonprofit medical clinic in the wake of Hurrican Katrina.”

In the great scheme of wingnut misstatements, this is hardly the worst, but it shows how easy it is to give the facts just a little twitch and end up conveying an entirely different (false) message.

I think Buchanan is referring to what could be termed an Extraordinary Pentecostal Rendition. whereas, when “the thrashing stops” the sinner is halfway across the Other Side and the Devil is hanging on to his feet a pullin’ down his britches, and the Lord is thwarting the sneaky sumbitch.

If it works, Levi sees the light. And if it didn’t, his ass is pitchforked for evah.

Count me as one who was not moved by Media Matters’ pearl-clutching over this sound bite (and I’m usually a big fan of theirs). But if your plan to Take Back America is endangered because some 19-year-old Alaska redneck refuses to cooperate (I’m talking about Levi, not one of Palin’s kids), you probably need a different plan.

Rush’s claim that Benjamin thinks doctors should not make a profit is, as far as we can tell, based on the AP’s reporting that she is “a rural Alabama family physician who made headlines with fierce determination to rebuild her nonprofit medical clinic in the wake of Hurrican Katrina.”

Well, yeah, she’s gonna drive down profits for everybody! Rush obviously feels that doctors need to unionize.

but remind me again why Wanda Sykes’ jokes about Rush Limbaugh offended everyone so much.

    Sure. Why not.

I’d say a good start would be to remind you of a magical word called “context”, and that the idiot woman said Rush wanted the NATION to fail. In reality, Rush indicated–not unfairly–that he wanted Obama’s POLICIES to fail. Not an especially unkind or unfair thing to say, considering it’s merely a stock conservative OPINION, bolstered by numerous economists, on this vapor trail of zeros that promises super deficits, uber taxation along Swedenic lines (at some point), and possible hyperinflation of the Argentine type. Coupled with this, the fact that this crap sandwhich is little more than a sop to 40-year-old punchlists of liberal social activism, company smashing labor contracts, and ACORN pestilence.

Such a rousing, thunderous ovation as it’s gotten, we now see trial balloons floated to test the toes in the water for Stimu-2.0–the latest possible download!

Serious question: why is it that right-wing blowhards don’t treat Levi Johnson–a schlub who lucked into his notoriety by virtue of a very thin connection to the McCain-Palin campaign–with the same level of respect and deference afforded that other ignorant and irrelevant figure of the campaign, “Joe” the “Plumber”?

Really, what’s the qualitative difference between these two? Neither would have had any role in the actual administration of government had McCain’s ticket won, both were tangential figures thrust into the national spotlight, neither is particularly qualified to speak on national politics…but unlike ol’ Joe, at least Levi has some firsthand knowledge of the politician he likes to talk about. So why is Pat Buchanan joining Joe Scarborough in a jaunty larf about retaliatory murder for Levi, but the Big Bald Bullshitter is still making the rounds promoting his book, appearing at CPAC, and getting sent to Israel to cover a fucking war?

  88. 88.

    Wakefield Tolbert

Levi has some firsthand knowledge of the politician he likes to talk about…

Levi merely has–at best–carnal knowledge of someone closely related to Sarah Palin. That would be her eldest daughter.

You may not like Joe the Plumber, or Ricci the firefighter, but in the first case a serious question (since you like those) WAS in point of fact asked of someone who hitherto hid his (outwardly) his ideology and got forced to the mat on all this “spread the wealth” crappola that passes for highbrow policy these days. In the second case, Mr. Ricci turned out to have a case after all. One that might play at least a cameo role or larger in the impending confirmation hearings of Judge Sotomayer. Even if Ricci’s not tuned in to the ponderings of wise Latina female experience sense, so much as just common sense.

Levi’s notoriety and somewhat lingered 15 minutes in front of the curtain was due to humping the flesh and the pressing the flesh on TV with noodleheads like Tyra Banks, now claiming on the one hand Palin resigned due to wanting to hit the limelight, and then on the other hand resigning for money reasons. Glad he’s got his story straight.

But he’s no more of a figure than John Wayne Bobbit. Merley his bobbing job was somewhat different, even if the claim to fame was for about the same quality reasoning.

    July 13, 2009 at 8:41 pm

Oh yeah, almost forgot–Sotomayer’s ruling got the old heave-ho.

That could, yah know…be important as to her judicial philosophy when it comes time to get in front of the flashes and mics and those stern-looking senators.

    Just sayin’….

    @gnomedad:

The only reason Rush is worried about Benjamin not going out there and being a money grubbing kind of doctor is because he won’t be able to go doctor shopping for his hillbilly heroin if all these doctors turn altruistic.

I cannot stand Mika Brzienski. She’s turned into some dingbat Elizabeth Hasselhoff type since she’s been hooked up with Morning Ho. She kept on going on and on this morning about some intel official she talked to about the intel program who supposedly told her that it wasn’t even implemented yet. And Ho was on Afterwords with Peggers Noonan yesterday. I wonder why CSPAN always has a conservative interview a conservative on Afterwords but a liberal is interviewed by a conservative. Example – Naomi Klein was interviewed by Viet Dinh who openly mocked her a few times during the interview.

Ah, someone else who remembers “Why the Irish Became White”! Of course, Patsy B. never stops bragging that his momma was German… back in his day, that was considered marrying up. No lie. The fact that PB still carries on about his parents’ success in the “interspecies breeding contest” (as his co-anchors would put it) is just one more indicator of what a pathetic little failure of a human being he is.

Nope. Just one too many wingnuts on the court is all. You know it isn’t about right and wrong, good case or bad anymore. It’s all about ideology and turning back the clock to Hoover days. All this hoi poloi about activist judges coming from the right was a ruse until they got the numbers to wipe out 80 years of progressive changes. Well, the battle is on and we shall see which way the worm turns.

From the first day Sarah Palin was announced as McCain’s running mate. Pat Buchanan absolutely drooled every time her name was mentioned. After the July 3rd Palin announcement, he had a perpetual frown and said very little about her. So what happened to have him protect her again?

BTW, anyone remember his “lock and load” phrase when he was running a campaign?

Nothing irks me more when someone starts spouting anti-immigration or anti-diversity for the US. We all have roots in different nations around the world as does everyone in the US. It’s even been theorized that the Native Americans came from elsewhere.

I’m glad someone finally spilled the beans about ideology being the trump card over law, and that in the final analysis law does not matter.

Mr. Stuck opened the bag here.

That happens to be the opinion of the charming Sotomayer as well.

    Good show.

80 years of “progress” to what, however, is also yet to be seen. Never has the world been more regulated and micromanaged at almost all levels, and yet it’s as nasty and dangerous as ever.

And thank you, HRA, and that delightful precis of history and immigration.

Neverminding the fact that some had ancestors who came here in the great migration over the Bering Strait, when no one was even around to wag fingers and sign you up for AFDC benefits at the border when you squeezed out some pups. Also, some of us had forebears who came here LEGALLY.

With all this FOCUS on the law, and the fact that immigration high jinx was at least partly responsible for the crushing and burning of nearly 3000 Americans on a certain day, I’m sure the Left will remain sanguine about our “progress” in this department as well. See Mr. Stuck for more info.

Blah. blah. blah. The weeping sores and festering gumma that the syphilis causes make it hard for me to have friends, good thing I can go to liberal blogs and whatever conservative nonsense my syphilitic neurons come up with in order to get some attention for my otherwise pathetic and useless life. Blah, blah, blah. If I couldn’t go trolling at Balloon Juice I’d kill myself.
