    I always admire those who poll watch and are able to work in public to encourage voting. I am not a shy person, but I have never been able to do these activities for some reason. Wall flower? I did for first Obama campaign do phone calls on behalf of his candidacy. Was one of the hardest, most unnatural things I ever did.

    Speaking of rain, here in South Central Indiana last Thursday we had one of those 100 year torrential rainstorms. Four inches in two days. Our house, which is NOT in flood plain or drainage area, but is a split level on lower floor, had the basement level flooded, because the slope between our house and neighbors was saturated, could not handle flood that came in from street, and water seemed down exterior into basement, 1/4 inch or more saturating carpets, 80% of floor area, which totals 1100 square feet. And is where our primary office / study area, all our books, CDs, one huge shelf of a lifetime of vinyl LPs live. One corner is the exercise area, treadmill and elliptical, with TV to watch while we exercise.

    Major disaster. Cleanup just short of $5,000. No insurance. Standard homeowners does NOT cover flooding, and flooding insurance is so prohibitively expensive, no one buys it.

    We have already moved 70% of books and stuff upstairs, today we start on transporting the rest, so crew can come in a couple of days. We think the berber carpet can be saved, but the pad must be replaced and the carpet cleaned, and all the baseboards replaced, possible some spots of dry wall.

    Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play, is sort of how we feel at the moment.

    @HeartlandLiberal: that’s terrible. I’m sure you’ve thought of this, if you can, a dehumidifier that you can carry down and plug in. We have a wini x that is very good. Our neighbor whose basement flooded w his books and storage in it, got one and it helped a lot. They have bucket in them or a hose — if ever the hose stops working it goes to the bucket automatically.

    @Aleta: Yeah, we are paying scads of money to a restoration service, running two industrial humidifiers, and eight heavy duty fans. Tomorrow they will raise carpet, rip out pad. Dry for a day or two, then replace pad, redo drywall two feet from floor, and wood molding at base of walls. My wife and I have been moving stuff up, Saturday six hours with help of a friend. We are exhausted. I must moved my domain controller and email server upstairs, a and the cable modem, VOIP modem, and my Netgear router upstairs, so we have Internet and phone services going, and out of the way prepping for the work that must be done.

    DId I mention we are both exhausted?
