Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Consistently wrong since 2002

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

He really is that stupid.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

White supremacy is terrorism.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Let there be snark.

When I was faster i was always behind.

It must have been super hard for David Gregory to secure President McCain for this week’s Meet the Press. What, with McCain running the country and all that, on top of his big list of legislative initiatives.

I, for one, have no idea what he might say. I wonder if he agrees with the guy who kicked his ass in the last election? No way he is bitter and that might cloud his judgment- the man ran the Straight Talk Express! What a score for journalism, Mr. Gregory!

For the record, I was joking yesterday when I said Gregory would have McCain on.

Well, McCorpse was the follow-up last night to the Obama speech and of course he was all pro-troop sending, but because he is physically unable to agree with a black, Democratic President, he threw in the caveat that “setting a timeline is a mistake” blah blah, “embolden the enemy” blah blah blah.

What puzzles me is why none of the interviewers ever press McCain to reveal his triple-super-secret absolutely-guaranteed plan to capture Osama bin Laden. Remember? The one he said he’d implement if he were president? Well, he’s not president now, but doesn’t he feel he owes it to his country to let President Obama in on it? Couldn’t he ever be asked about that….?

    OT

Have been watching the Senate debate on HCR, and there is epic wingnut douchebaggery in the air.

Wingers have adopted an attack strategy of simultaneously arguing that the HCR bill is bad for two reasons. The first is that it will cost 2.5 trillion the first ten years, and, it will cut grannies medicare benefits, too, also.

Of course the medicare cuts, that are actually cuts in wingnut welfare to insurance companies for pig trough tax payer subsidies for Med advantage (and other overcharged services) that seniors still have to pony up for to get 100 percent coverage on top of the subsidies. It is also largely how the bill will be paid for, thereby making moot the claim of 2.5 trillion as the cost.

Bait/switch – Heads I win, tails you lose.

Gregory: President McCain, what’s your plan for dealing with Afghanistan ?

McCain: Well, my friends, my plan has three parts:

First, I will suspend my Senatorial duties, and fly immediately to Afghanistan. Second, I’ll get all the tribal leaders into a room and tell them to “Cut the bullshit”. Thirdly, I’ll appoint Michele Bachmann – she’s this cute and spunky new up-and-comer – the real future of the GOP, IMO – to the position of Viceroy of Afghanistan. She’ll be in charge of day-to-day operations. This will ensure a lasting victory for this great nation.

I wonder how many times he will say Iraq when he means Afghanistan on Meet The Press. And I wonder if he will be corrected. Maybe he can bring Lieberman with him to try and ease the confusion in his muddled mind.

Only slightly OT-I was grocery shopping, etc., the other day with my Daughter and 2 of the 3 Grands. There was, as always, much noise and altercation occurring. Anyone with more than zero kids under 40 will understand. We were stuck at another light, and I marveled at my Daughter’s ability to tune it all out and concentrate on the driving. I asked how long it would take me to achieve that state. She didn’t think too long, since I am a female, although out of practice with little folk. While we were both laughing like hyenas, we decided that the real way to collect intelligence from captured enemies was lock them in a car at a traffic light with several (obviously safe) little people. They would give up their mothers in about ten minutes, or beg to have some other method used.

McCain and Keating had known each other since 1981 and had become fast friends. Of all the “Keating Five,” it was McCain who really moved into the life of the Lincoln S&L chief. The two men vacationed together multiple times, with the whole McCain clan (babysitter included) heading out for Keating’s private Caribbean property on Keating’s private jet. McCain didn’t think to actually report these trips, or pay for them, until the investigators were breathing down his neck. And McCain took payment in more than just vacations. Keating and other members of Lincoln’s parent company padded McCain’s pockets with $112,000 in campaign contributions.

Just a reminder from those of us who live (literally) in John McCain’s neighborhood. This guy is a complete fake and scam artist and always has been. He’s used the POW Get Out Of Any Jam card to dodge being called to account for his entire political career.

McCain has been described as having all his answers be pundit answers – not politician who is actually responsible for policy, answers.
This was noted when Georgia and Russia were battling in early-mid 2008. Even Bush was not saying “We are all Georgians now.”

It is no surprise that MTP would rather have him
on than someone who has to be responsible.

Part of the reason he was not elected was the concern that pundit answers are all he has.

As far as I can remember, the last time I watched
ANY Sunday morning ‘news’ show was in late 2001 when Cheney was on re-assuring the world that someone with ‘gravitas’ was in charge. Slow speech fooled me then.

I remember watching the Sunday morning political talk shows religiously, back when you could actually learn something about policy and governance.

I remember watching Washington Week sometime before the 1996 election, when McLaughlin’s “Question of the Week” was “How many Whitewater indictments will be handed down before the election?” Every single one of those worthless blowhards gave a specific number and none of them matched the actual number of ZERO.

I used to work for NBC News. I’ve seen this stuff from the inside, but they used to hide their cliquish behavior from viewers. They don’t bother anymore.
