This is a little sailboat I love to take photos of when I walk the harbor trail in Rockland, Maine.

    Anyone know what that boat closest to the camera in the last photo is? Interesting lines.

    Nice shots! Drove through Rockland in Oct heading to Acadia, weather was awful but looks like it would have been a worthwhile stop if weather permitted.

    On our Maine cruise in Summer of ‘19, before we turned south for Puerto Rico, we loved our visit to Rockland! We just happened to arrive for the kickoff of the annual Lobster Festival, which made for crowded streets and harbor, so we stayed a few days afterwards to enjoy the town without crowds. The dinghy dock in the second pic is where we would tie up when we came into town. Caught an offbeat indy movie at the Strand Theatre.

    Thanks for the memory!

    Brings back memories. Back in the ‘90s, when I was in the Navy, my ship visited Rockland for couple of days during the Lobster Festival. I spent one day giving tours of the ship and the other day enjoying the festivities, drinking beer and eating my weight in cheap lobster. It was a great time.

    Lovely — not just the sailboats, either, but pictures that capture the flavor of the place. Thanks to MomSense for highlighting one of my favorite coastal towns.

    The Farnsworth museum in Rockland (home of the Wyeth Center) has online events every day this month.

    I love the Farnsworth and try to visit whenever I’m in Rockland, which is ordinarily 3-4 times a year. But I’m not a member, so I didn’t know they were doing that activity-a-day thing. That’s wonderful — thanks for the heads up!

    If you (the general you) are in Rockland and in need of a break from sailboat and museum viewing: I’ll give a plug for my old babysitter’s bookstore: hellohellobooks, in the same building as the Rock City Cafe. Coffee and books, what could be better! They’re having a hard slog right now, as most small local businesses are, but they’re hanging on so far.

    @JanieM:

    I buy coffee and books there whenever I’m in town.  They require reservations to go into the bookstore.

    @MomSense: :-)

    Since COVID started I’ve just been sticking to online ordering, but I miss browsing — besides the secondhand books, there’s always some quirky thing that I would never have run across except there.

    Nice.  Reminds me that I haven’t been to the coast in a while, only an hour away.  Maybe tomorrow.

    Lovely, evocative photos Momsense – thank you for sharing.

    BTW, for some reason I thought your son was a teenager- I was wrong, but I am waiting on pins & needles for your Christmas comments about his reaction to the new guitar. Please – all the details.

    @laura:

    I’m on pins and needles too!  The guitar is for my teenager.  My youngest is in high school.  Oldest is also a guitarist, but my buying guitars for him days are long past.  Teenager has been all over reverb looking at guitars and was really bummed out that the the one he really wanted was sold!!
