    Switch the name Bush for every Kerry in that article, and every right wing blog out there would be screaming about it showing what a regular sort of guy Bush is.

    But yes it’s fairly inane. So much for investigative journalism ya know.

    Strikes me as an interesting sketch of the guy, at least the part you quote.

    Maybe you’re more accustomed to or were really in the market for something unremittingly belittling or roundly condemning.

    Never fear. There will be plenty of those, given the capacity and lavish funding of the pro-Bush/Republican/ultraconservative and pro-corporate opinion-molding industry.

    As for the occasional exception, get over it.

    SW- It was just an idiotidc puff piece- they ran hundreds of these during the primaries about all the candidates. I mean really- John Kerry has been involved politically onthe national stage since 1970, always a liberal.

    The NY Times is really just now noticing him?

    I don’t think that the NYT is just now noticing him, but that they are seeking to provide context to readers who didn’t follow the primaries.

    But yeah, there’s a fine line between a “bit of humanizing background” and a puff piece.

    Give me a freaking break. The song has a sum total of three chords!

    And why is he now learning a song most of us learned in first or second grade? That old Woody Guthrie chestnut has been in the pantheon of American music for probably seventy years. There’s only one reason why Kerry could be unfamiliar with this song: this puff piece writer unintentionally contrasts Kerry’s Swiss boarding school years with that of hundreds of millions of Americans publically schooled.

    John F. Kerry: just an ordinary guy, huh?

    Less YAWN, more PUKE.
