Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Be a wild strawberry.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

Let me file that under fuck it.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Finding joy where we can, and muddling through where we can’t.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

I just happen to be working on my music project at the moment. For years I’ve wanted to acquire and modify an actual jukebox with the guts of a PC to play all my computer music. Unfortunately, jukeboxes are expensive as hell, expensive to ship and take up a lot of room.

Changing plans tonight, I ordered a touch screen kit off the internet and I’m going to install it in a 19″ monitor mounted on the wall in the game room and equip it with jukebox software. I really like The PC Jukebox software but it won’t import WMA files unless you manually create a tag for each file. I have about 12000 WMA files. So now I’m looking at all the jukebox software out there trying to find something I like while thinking in the back of my mind I should just bite the bullet and convert all my WMA files back to MP3 format.

Confirmed today, or rather now it’s yesterday, that my sister hates me. She couldn’t even bring herself to say hello to me without my mom’s urging.

I’m an easy target for her hatred. She is not happy with her life, and I am her opposite. I left home, she still lives just as she did in high school (we’re talking 30 years). I have control over my finances, my brother controls hers. She’s never been married, I have been (twice!).

Funny thing. I’m ok with it. If she feels that she can completely hate on me, then maybe I will deflect her white hot hate from others. At least I don’t have to listen to her bitch about my sister-in-law anymore.

Retail sucks and I am glad I’m out of it.

That Red Army Choir vid brings enormous joy to me. We live in a marvelously bizarre world.

The soloist must be an android, a cousin of Data, say. Why? you ask. He didn’t sing “I can’t go”, he sang “I can not go.”

(A little (very) social commentary on the side — the clip intercuts Ford with a few shots of people at a fancy dinner (say, the Chamber of Commerce).)

    @Just Some Fuckhead:

Jukebox love is tough because most of us who love them will never own one for the reasons you mentioned. Have you considered making a jukebox surround for your monitor? The steampunk folks have done some mighty nice work in making PC components look as if they came from the Victorian era. Just a thought.

A young musician that me and Cat Gentleman have followed and supported for the past few years, including having a house concert, has just had her song chosen by DKNY for a new perfume. That’s what passes for breaking through these days – that, or a song on Gossip Girl.

She was in the original documentary Rock School that School of Rock was based on, and does a kick ass version of Zomby Woof in the movie. Yeah, Zomby Woof. Check her out.

@Cat Lady: Oh my goodness! Thanks for that link; the hubs and I loved Rock School.

In other news, I made entirely too much wild boar sausage and apple stuffing yesterday.

On purpose, of course. Because it’s better the next day. Om nom nom.

This isn’t the greatest cover ever, but it’s a beautiful song. XTC’s recent work is pretty damn wonderful.
