Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

The willow is too close to the house.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Open thread with Christmas carol

I liked this Christmas carol version of the Bed Intruder Song which one of you recommended in the comments. These Liberty University students seem so sweet and good-natured; I sincerely hope none of ever blows up an abortion clinic or works with James Dobson.

What are you up to today?

    I got an early Christmas present yesterday.

    My job evaporated 2 weeks ago and I have been busy doing the necessary but not pleasant sending off resumes, answering emails, telephone interviews, etc.

    Yesterday, I was hired! I start my new job on Tuesday, the 28th [I think]. I’ll be doing essentially the same work, perhaps with new technology.

    Now, if I can only keep this damn job.

    Still, good luck is wonderful.

    @Linda Featheringill:
    Great news. Congratulations! I took early SS this year. Although it’s been a bit of a scrape it beats nothing, which is the amount of job opportunities you have if you’re over sixty.

    As Michaelangelo’s works are associated with the Catholic Church, will Antoine Dodson become similarly associated with American evangelicalism? I sure hope so, since those guys sure could use them some sassy black gay man vibes.

    Well, it smells like a Polish Christmas Eve in my building. The Weiss family is cooking the fish upstairs. It’s funny to walk around my neighborhood in the few days leading up to Christmas, as all the grocery stores and delis will have live carp in buckets outside (they kept them inside this year, as it hasn’t gotten much above freezing in the last week here). Apparently fish on Christmas Eve is a big Eastern European tradition.

    I’m also so glad that my dad moved back into the city this year, as I can take a quick subway ride up to his place tomorrow and not have to sleep over, as my allergies to his dog are terrible.

    Congrats, Linda; that’s great news.

    On our way to visit family. My brothers are on their way with their sons (all 3 of us had baby boys within 8 months of each other. Well, technically their wives and I). I’m eager to see the three cousins together. And planning their Halloween costume five years from now as I’ve already decided they’re going to go as the Spanish Inquisition.

    I know that I am becoming old and unhip when I only learned of this and the double rainbow videos a couple weeks ago.

    I liked the second half of the the Liberty U video better.

    @Linda Featheringill: Congrats.

    I totally agree. I’m 66. Of course, I didn’t tell anyone this.

    I can’t wait to tell my grandkids about The Great Repression. How we all had to learn to live on one lousy income after 30 years of good dual incomes. How bankers were jumping out of windows into huge piles of cash, merrily.

    @Linda Featheringill: Wow! Congratulations.
    I am sure that was a huge relief and a great christmas gift.

    We are cleaning the house and then heading to the relatives. My stuff is all wrapped so I can go to sleep at a decent hour tonight.

    Having a 12yo and a 9 yo has its benefits. They helped wrap gifts and my daughter loved it and is better at it than I am.

    I’m especially noticing the Sorta Punk Girl choir director. If this had been 1977 and it had been a Sorta Hippie Girl (or Sorta Rawk Dude), all the punk would’ve been out in force about how this naked co-optation proved the utter failure of the ’60s movement. Why does punk get a pass?

    Putting gifts in decorated paper bags. The gifts are ever-so PC- homemade preserves and wooden bowls and bead work made in a Maasai women’s cooperative where I worked for a month this year. Drinking coffee. Putting the kid on a plane to Maine to visit the eastern relatives. Working from 3pm to midnight today and tomorrow and 7am to 7pm on Sunday. Having a job is great, but it takes up so much time…

    Oh, and cleaning up dogshit. Lots and lots of dogshit. My Christmas list is basically “help me house train this pound mutt I just adopted.” We’ve gotten as far as keeping it on the paper, but I can’t figure out her schedule, let alone get her on mine.

    Cole, if you’re paying any attention to Doug’s open thread: the Roethlisberger play was just on Sportscenter. He had his face smashed on the arm of his own offensive lineman. I expect your correction some time after we see one from McAddled.

    Finished baking most of the cookies I was planning. Just put up a batch of pumpkin biscuits (great for making little ham sandwiches.)

    Just a couple of more presents to wrap, a few ornaments to plug those holes in the tree. The high winds blew the wreath off the door yesterday; have to decide if I want to drag out the ladder to put it back up. Maybe I’ll just hang it on the banister.

    I hate you, DougJ, for foisting this upon me (and myself for clicking. And, they changed the lyrics (I had to watch the original to see what the hell these fools were singing about).

    @MattR: I just saw that a week ago or so. I coudn’t make it all the way through.
