    I would gloat more except that G and I are getting on a plane and heading to Chicago on Saturday, so I’m flying right into the snowpocalypse. But snow is much more fun when you don’t have to drive to work in it, so it still won’t be as bad.

    (It’s quite chilly in Los Angeles today — it only hit 60 degrees.)

    The storm left only about an inch of snow here in Pine, Colorado, but it’s minus 12 right now. I’m 3 months from becoming an official Yooper (resident of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula) and I guess it’s good practice.

    In NJ, not sure if it will be sleet, snow, rain or ice. The ice would be the worst. Heat goes out if power off.

    On the plus side, for me at least now that I’ve gathered my youngest from school and shoveled the walk and the driveway–we are going to have an official day off from school tomorrow for both kids. This means that I don’t have to wait on tenterhooks for an “early closing” or try to drive over snow filled roads to get them. Instead, we will stay cosy with our visiting one year old, make scones, and drink hot chocolate all made legitimate by the immense amounts of shoveling I’m doing. So, there’s that. You never get “heat prostration days” in summer that feel so nice.

    Just picked five golden daffodils for the house, sure warms up our chilly 66 degree afternoon to see their yellow faces. After last week’s 70 degree weather this cold snap needed a pick me up. (you asked for it)

    At this point, it doesn’t matter what Mubarek says. Now that the army has said they refuse to fire on the protesters, he’s done. A dictator can’t dictate without the force of arms behind him.

    They’re going to come up with some kind of face-saving way for him to resign within a week (at his age, I’m guessing an urgent health problem that just has to be dealt with in England) and he’ll be gone.

    Tell your mom that if there is ice, do not go out at all. There was some ice on the sidewalks this morning. It was better when I came back from the store, but even with tread on the boots, I didn’t like it. The curb cuts were slipery, isn’t that ironic?
    The bus picks up seniors from the senior apartments. No one went out today.

    Some time back, we were talking about some kind of Deep-South stupid something and someone went on a really righteous rant about how the South’s fucked-up reality was completely at odds with its redneck rhetoric. It just went through a list of things – the high teen pregnancy rate, the low test scores, the amount of money it receives from the federal government compared to what it pays, the number of people in prison, etc., etc.

    Anybody remember what I’m talking about here? More importantly, can anyone point me back to the right thread, at least?

    Here in SW Ohio we have avoided the blizzard, but have gotten an annoying coat of ice. Everything is covered and right now there’s a slight bump up in the temps, which means it’s raining. So on top of the half inch of ice, we will have rain for just long enough to slick it up. Then it all changes back over to ice this evening and then snow tomorrow.

    My first job out of college was near where I’m moving in the UP. I love Colorado but it’s gotten crowded and expensive and I want space – actually paid cash for the farmhouse that is my destination. There are some challenges; I had to call five telephone companies before I could find one that provides service to my area.

    There is a bus line along the route, but as I walked up to the stop, I saw about one bus-load of people waiting at just that stop. If I’d had to wait 20 minutes to get on a bus, walking becomes the faster option.

I also managed some Beijing duck on Friday and have the remnants in my fridge. Gloating comes in all, often contradictory, forms.

    If you want to get here you HAVE to take US 101! There are forest service roads that come in the back way but you have to be a real nut to use them. Makes for quick police chases as there are only two avenues of escape; north and south.

    The other evening I came back home from a motorcycle ride up 101 at sunset and I told the wife that I saw two Dodge Challengers racing southbound. The one in the lead was a fair distance ahead of the other car but I knew the guy behind would win the race.

    Having a rack of pretty red and blue lights on top of your Hemi Challenger pretty much guarantees a win. The cop hit his lights as I passed him and it was clear who his target was…lol!

    All the schools in every direction from Buffalo are closed tomorrow. My U sent me a text to tell me they are closed tomorrow, too. This is only the 2nd time they have closed since I have been on campus as a student and now as staff.
    Our weather starts at 10 pm tonight till 10 pm tomorrow nad it’s 21 degrees here.
    BTW I get more than enough gloat from my daughter on SoCal.

    Last week, I was flipping through the channels, and I stopped on a fishing show. Just because the weather looked so nice there.

    Last night, I had a dream that I was transplanting daffodil bulbs.

    I don’t think I can handle much more of this. In between snow storms, I have to move my snow banks to make room for the next snow banks. Shovel by shovel.
