Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The lights are all blinking red.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

When we show up, we win.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

You Have To Be Kidding Me

Oliver explains why the swift vets should not be trusted, linking to this story about Al French:

The Clackamas County Prosecutor who appeared in an ad against John Kerry has been suspended from his job, but not for speaking out. Al French has been the target of local protests after his appearance in a political ad questioning the the Democratic candidate’s war record.
On Thursday he was placed on leave by the Clackamas County District Attorney’s office. It wasn’t for his statements against Kerry, but for lying about an extra-marital affair. Reports say French misled his former boss ten years ago to avoid getting fired.

Oliver determines that lying about an extra-marital affair shows a lack of integrity, and opines:

People are trusting this guy and his pals more than the US Navy? For shame.

They don’t just think Bush is stupid. They think we are all stupid.

A.) No one is trusting the Swift Vets over the “Navy.” They are questioning the Navy Records- records which, even today, Kerry refuses to release.

B.) Since when is infidelity a character flaw? Who was that guy- the leader of the Democrats, who screwed a trail from Little Rock to DC to Chappaqua? Oh yeah- it was the CLENIS, aka, the greatest man to ever live.

The RNC

When I think of protesters in general, I remember Gallagher describing living in Los Angeles as similar to ‘living in a bowl of granola. What ain;t fruits and nuts is flakes.’ At any rate I can’t imagine why the Democrats think that flooding the zone with protesters during the convention is going to be a successful strategy.

Most people watching the convention closely have probably already made up their mind. When middle America sees the International ANSWER crowd marching down Broadway, or naked protestors for Aids funding (where were they during the Clinton years?), or anarchists protesting the people that hire most Americans, I can’t see how this is going to be viewed as positive for Kerry and Edwards.

For fun, I think we should count the number of times during the RNC that the television networks and the cable companies run major speeches spli screen with the protestors. Counting the ways the networks attempt to sabotage the convention could be fun. Someone else will have to watch Dan Rather, though. I am trying to watch my blood pressure.

Max Cleland, Professional Victim

If you are as sick as I am of listening to Democrats lie about how Max Cleland’s ‘patriotism was questioned,’ then you will enjoy this Hanks post.

It was not Max Cleland’s patriotism that was questioned, it was his judgement and his voting record. And if his recent behavior and penchants for over lying is any sign, questioning his judgement was a sound service to the voters of Georgia.

Here is a game everyone can play to waste a little time. The rules are simple, and it is just good, clean fun.

Here are the rules and scoring:

1.) Search as many lefty/lib websites as possible, searching for comments bemoaning the fact that Bob Dole spoke out about the Swift Vets bit. Give yourself 1 point if you find a lefty/lib mentioning Dole.

2.) If the lefty/lib says something to the effect “It is a shame that he would sink so low after becoming respected in his old age,” give yourself 5 points.

3.) If the lefty/lib uses the phrase “elder statesman,’ give yourself an additional 10 pts.

4.) If they link to this Noel Koch piece in the WaPo, give yourself 5 more points.

5.) If you can find any proof in their archives that they ever said anything positive about Dole in the past, give yourself 10 pts.

6.) If you find disparaging remarks about Dole in their archives, give yourself 25 points.

I read three liberal sites today, each one containing a sorrow-filled, rueful, “woe is the world” post that the great Bob Dole who they respect so much would “sink so low.”

Except the liars never liked Bob Dole. They lied about his war record. They lied about his legislative record. They lied about his character and demeanor. They were brutal to his wife. And they voted for a draft-dodger rather than than him. That is how much they ‘respected’ him.

The shit that comes from some of these people’s mouths.

*** Update ***

Mark Kleiman should be applauded for his honesty. I have no problem with people who think Dole is a dick. Personally, I think George Mitchell is one of the biggest partisan assholes to ever walk the earth, and the notion he is an ‘elder statesman’ is just laughable. But what really pisses me off are the people pretending to have once liked Dole, but that his recent comments are just too overboard.
