Way To Go, Bachmann

I’m sure she didn’t want this to happen:

Police and federal officials have placed security around ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, after a New Jersey man threatened her, law-enforcement sources said.

An individual, described as a Muslim man, made the unspecified threat after Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) last week claimed Abedin’s family had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and asked for a probe to see if she is helping the Islamist organization.

Stay classy, teabaggers.

It could be worse. God forbid, that Bachman be martyred.

I’m not being cavalier invoking that nightmare. But Bachman, and the whole rotten lot of her T-Bagging allies, should pause and consider the phrase ‘double-edged sword’ before spouting off in their typically irresponsible manner.

Does anybody else remember the interview last year, I’ve forgotten who was conducting it (Stephanopolous?), where the interviewer told Bachmann that all the evidence points to Obama having been born in Hawaii and Bachmann’s response was basically, “alrighty then, he’s an American.” Has it occurred to anybody to tell Bachmann that Abedin has passed all sorts of screenings, then maybe her response will be, “alrighty then, she’s okay.” I’m not so sure the problem with Bachmann is that she’s a McCarthyite so much as that she’s goddamned stupid.

@gbear: I wouldn’t hold your breath. Look at this from the perspective of a Bachmann voter: all this Abedin woman needs to to is embrace Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and if necessary renounce her family, and the problem goes away. And because no one’s keeping her from doing it, her problem really is self-inflicted.

@Yutsano: She’s not. She knows exactly what she’s doing.

    I found this interesting: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/07/22/report-cited-by-bachmann-claims-norquist-linked-to-muslim-brotherhood/

So now she says that Norquist has ties to the MB? That’s really something, considering, SHE SIGNED HIS PLEDGE!

Bachmann is the result of an born-again upbringing.

As a woman, she is told she is good for cleaning and cooking and if she insists on getting an education and working anyway, she must feel guilty about it and basically work two jobs.

They can’t do much in the way of dating and life exploration, so they marry to get some autonomy; only they don’t have any then, either, if they marry a straight guy from the same culture.

They often marry closeted gay men because they are so sweet and polite and silently suffering; much like they are. And what’s a closeted gay man to do in that culture but “find a nice girl.” Some of them might even believe it will cure them; for a while.

There’s probably a stress related cause of her horrible migraines, she’s a victim and will stay one, probably forever.

Not to excuse the harm she creates. Just some perspective. She is crazy; but it’s worth wondering what made her that way. And the people who vote for her because they think the same way.

@Yutsano: The wingnut legislature didn’t do the redistricting.

Because the Minnesota Legislature and governor were unable to agree on a plan for new districts, a special panel appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court did the job.

The districts are now a bit less gerrymandered than they used to be.

Not sure if this came up in an earlier thread, but I caught a brief portion of Meet the Press this morning. David Gregory was more awful than I’ve ever seen him, doing his best to shut down any conversation related to gun control. But the moment that really sent me over the edge was when as Dancing Dave and his law enforcement guest had stumbled on to a discussion of the need for the public to report those who need help or may be suspicious (as an alternative to communist and obviously ineffective gun control). Dem. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy pointed out that encouraging citizens to report each other can have negative consequences as evidenced by recent comments by some of her colleagues in congress. She was polite enough not to call out Bachmann by name but the reference was clear. Anyway, Gregory cut her off and immediately asserted that it was clear wild accusations were being made by both sides. I wanted to reach into the television and strangle him right then.

I watched Ryan Lizza, who was apparently covering her in the GOP primary, deliver a sanctimonious, prim little lecture all about how Bachmann was a serious candidate and people (like me) who think she’s crazy as a loon were underestimating her seriousness and intellect.

    No, I wasn’t.

She’s crazy as a loon, and that’s not “elitism” or “patronizing to heartland voters”, it’s obvious to anyone who observes her objectively and listens to what she says.

They’re so afraid of coming off as eastern elitists they are incapable of making any kind of rational judgment call.

In any sane, honest society, we would ignore crazy people who run around calling random people terrorists because they believe some wack-job conspiracy about Muslim takeover. Instead, we elect them to congress and put them on national security committees and invite them on talk shows to talk about their fucking stupid bullshit.

Michele Bachmann is a goddamn liar and a fucking lunatic. I’m ashamed to live in a country where the likes of her can be elected to anything.

Bachmann will continue with her crazy statements as long as they are reported. I would suspect she is one of those who has a real need to be the centre of attention. Now that she is no longer a “presidentual candidate” she needs her fix. She doesn’t care if its true or not. She doesn’t care who gets hurt, as long as she gets her publicity.

I am sure we will hear more from Bachmann as the election comes closer. I expect we will hear her call for investigations into the military, fbi, cia, etc. If it weren’t that people are being hurt by her open mouth, it would actually be quite funny.

Now of course we know why America is in such trouble, if this is an example of what is elected to office. My god they are stupid

I think the reason that this is a step too far for some of her Republican colleagues is primarily what happened in Egypt. I don’t think even Boehner, coward as he is, much liked seeing Hillary Clinton – especially as Secretary of State – assaulted, even with tomatoes (and who knows what other threats may have been made) because of these lies. Some of these folks are sane enough to see that these lies aren’t stopping at the nation’s boundaries. John McCain in particular, considers Hillary a friend. Some of them may actually care about Huma Abedin’s reputation and safety (not to mention other falsely vilified Muslims), but I’d lay bets they’re primarily concerned with safety and reputation of Hillary as Secretary of State.

    @asiangrrlMN:

Actually, she is now officially in my district, but will be allowed to run in her old district.

Love that assertiveness. And if she makes it to Congress again in 2012, any chance she can get the boot in 2014?

I don’t remember if it’s been posted at BJ, but this Twitter feed from someone sitting next to Bachmann on a plane trip to DC shows where she gets her top seekrit intelligence. H/T Wonkette:
