    Keep fucking that chicken Republicans.

Arizona House lawmakers on Wednesday rejected a Democrat-backed effort to repeal the 1864 near-total abortion ban….

Republicans hold a one-seat majority in the House, so flipping two GOP votes would have allowed the chamber to move forward with the repeal bill. Democrats tried moving the motion a second time, but the resulting vote was the same.

Is today the Einstein Zoom? I am forgetful. I blame the medicine. Or, perhaps, the number of procedures. I just had Cardioversion #3 and am scheduled for Heart Ablation #4 in about a month. All but one done at one of the finest Hospitals in SoCal (actually, the World). I’m complicated.

I want to show up in the Zoom with this as my photo. Possible? Actually kinda looks like me. Although I wouldn’t be caught dead in a tie any longer (well, if I was passed, they can dress me in whatever they want).

With Russia so sunken into Ukraine, there is no near term need for those weapons anywhere else in Europe.  Russian military is so drained and committed that you could defend the rest of Europe with handguns at this point.  There are no advanced tanks left, no advanced jets left, no cruise missiles left, the cupboards are really bare.

If those weapon systems in NATO are destroying Russian assets in Ukraine then they are doing the job they were built for.

This might have already been brought up, but I’m sure y’all saw that Bill Barr has decided he’s going to “vote for the Republican ticket” after all.  There aren’t enough eyes to roll in the whole wide world.

(In my book, this technically makes him worse than trump, and I will make a point of letting everyone know that.  If Barr wants to ‘signal’ that GOP voters need to come home and support the blessed ‘ticket’, I’m going to signal that I think such folks are beyond contempt.)

Knowing all that he knows, having seen everything he has seen, and even having the examples of Cheney and Kinzinger to (pathetically, meekly, begrudgingly) follow, he’s choosing to get behind trump.

It reminds me of a long-ago episode of MASH where Hawkeye and Trapper need an incubator to culture bacteria.  They find a quartermaster with three in storage who won’t give them one because if he gave it to them, then “he wouldn’t have it.”  He was not doing anything with any of them. Hawkeye and Trapper try to shame General Mitchell into doing something, unsuccessfully. Finally they find a corrupt colonel who sells them one illegally.

So Fox News is saying, “Shut up, Marjorie.  Nobody likes you.”

I would pay good money to hear Senator Schumer say the same thing – “Shut up Ted.  Nobody likes you.”

In other news about Republican politicians, it seems that Michigan AG Dana Nessel is going after Lee Chatfield (R), former MI state rep for all sorts of financial shenanigans.  This particular case started when Chatfield’s sister-in-law accused him of repeated sexual assaults over a ten year period.

I was reading about this over at LGM, and whoo boy, this Chatfield fella is a piece of work.  He began sexually assaulting the sister in law when she was a student at the Christian school, and he was one of her teachers.  She married his brother (she was 18) and stated that Chatfield raped her in a closet on her wedding day.

No charges are being brought in re sexual assault (no other evidence besides the testimony of the victim).  Damn it.

She is divorced now, and it seems she and her children had some severe financial struggles, like in being homeless for a period of time.

The Party of Family Values indeed.  What the hell is wrong with these people?

BBC, which takes a conservative approach to calculating it, released their latest estimate of Russian war dead in Ukraine: 50,000. In a little more than two years they have buried that many soldiers, a number that by definition is an undercount because it’s only verifiable deaths.

The overall death toll – of more than 50,000 – is eight times higher than the only official public acknowledgement of fatality numbers ever given by Moscow in September 2022.

The actual number of Russian deaths is likely to be much higher.

Our analysis does not include the deaths of militia in Russian-occupied Donetsk and Luhansk – in eastern Ukraine. If they were added, the death toll on the Russian side would be even higher.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was the “exclusive prerogative of the Ministry of Defence” to provide information on casualties, because of laws covering state secrets and disseminating information during the “special military operation”, the phrase Russia uses for its war in Ukraine.

Ukraine, meanwhile, rarely comments on the scale of its battlefield fatalities. In February, President Volodymyr Zelensky said 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed – but estimates, based on US intelligence, suggest greater losses.
    bbc.com/news/world-68819853

US deaths in Vietnam, from all causes (combat, accidental, missing, etc.) across all years: 58,220. Deadliest year was 1968: 16,899 with the period 1965-1971 accounting for most losses.

Russia’s population is smaller than the US in 1968 (200 million) and Vlad and Co. do not give a whit about expending Russians there, while tossing war opponents into the gulag for “insulting Russian Army.”

    IDK how this ends.

ruZZia has deployed less than 29% of it’s full time military assets in the War against Ukraine, (manpower, hardware),

less than 8% if you include Active Reserves.

As an example, out of 220 t-90M tanks, (ruZZia’s most modern), only 15 have been deployed in the war.

It took NATO a long time to fill those warehouses.

That said, we can supply Ukraine with a lot more than much of what NATO has been doing.*

The document for the first time provides official confirmation and codification of what many in the Moscow elite say has become a hybrid war against the West. Russia is seeking to subvert Western support for Ukraine and disrupt the domestic politics of the United States and European countries, through propaganda campaigns supporting isolationist and extremist policies, according to Kremlin documents previously reported on by The Post. It is also seeking to refashion geopolitics, drawing closer to China, Iran and North Korea in an attempt to shift the current balance of power.

How can I miss you when you won’t go away? Editor’s note: California fast food minimum wage raised to $20 on April 1.

Popular American chain Cracker Barrel locked the doors this week to its single Sacramento site after roughly six years of business. The site at 1000 Howe Ave., which once dripped with Southern country flair, is now bare and boarded following a Monday closure. A large sign that reads “This location is now closed” is fixed to the building.

A site in Santa Maria has also closed. “We’re deeply saddened to announce (the Sacramento) location has closed,” Cracker Barrel wrote in a farewell statement to its customers. “To our Sacramento community — we’ve been honored to welcome guests into a home-away-from-home at our store, and we’ve valued the opportunity to be part of so many special occasions for our guests and community,” the Tennessee-based restaurant chain added. The site opened in the summer of 2018 with fanfare.

In an emailed statement on Wednesday morning, Cracker Barrel was tight-lipped about the reason behind the closure but hinted at performance issues.

“As a standard course of business, we continually evaluate the performance of our stores, using various criteria to ensure we are meeting the needs of our guests and our business,” the chain said. “The decision to close a store is never one we take lightly, and our focus right now is on assisting our impacted employees during this transition.” The company said it offers employees transfers to other locations, severance packages and additional assistance.

“We extend our sincere thanks to our employees who worked so hard to keep our fireplace glowing and to the guests who have dined with us, celebrated with us, and made us part of their community,” the chain said.

“In a letter received by Republican digital vendors this week, the Trump campaign is asking for down-ballot candidates who use his name, image and likeness in fundraising appeals to give at least 5 percent of the proceeds to the campaign.”
They add: “Any split that is higher than 5% will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump’s campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”

So, if TIFG endorses anyone, they basically have to pay for that dubious “honor.”🙄

@Jeffro: well we’ve known about this “war” on the West in general, but the new classified document referred to was only just written in 2023.  The details are bone chilling.

Using much tougher and blunter language than the public foreign policy document, the secret addendum, dated April 11, 2023, claims that the United States is leading a coalition of “unfriendly countries” aimed at weakening Russia because Moscow is “a threat to Western global hegemony.” The document says the outcome of Russia’s war in Ukraine will “to a great degree determine the outlines of the future world order,” a clear indication that Moscow sees the result of its invasion as inextricably bound with its ability — and that of other authoritarian nations — to impose its will globally.

For those lauding Liz Peek for her “takedown” of Marjorie Taylor Greene, please note that this doesn’t represent some outbreak of sanity at Fox News. Peek is still writing from Crazytown, just a different neighborhood. Some snipppets from the article:

To be sure, not all Republicans approve of spending billions more to arm Ukraine, especially since our own border remains wide open; many in the GOP wanted Johnson to demand border enforcement in exchange for support of Kyiv. Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world (which is perhaps why Hunter Biden was so richly employed there), and it’s not clear that America’s billions sent to fight Vladimir Putin have all been spent towards that end. There is almost certainly inadequate oversight, as I wrote early in the war.

If President Biden had allowed an all-out aggressive war against Moscow, we would not be at a seeming stalemate. Because he dithered, Ukraine is now losing ground and urgently needs weapons and ammunition. This can be remedied; we need to provide the funding and push the White House to outline the path to victory.

If Biden wins four more years in the Oval Office, we will be forced to travel even further down the road towards erratic and unreliable green energy while our bounteous and inexpensive domestic oil and gas resources go to waste.

Democrats will push to empower unions, trampling the rights of those who choose not to join, and may attempt to pack the Supreme Court in order to ramrod through measures like widespread student loan forgiveness and “clean” energy mandates, which the court in its wisdom has prevented.

The future of the U.S. is on the line. Former President Donald Trump, who very much wants to kick Biden out of office, knows how dangerous the tumult in the House can be. He recently met with Mike Johnson in Florida and gave him an important and well-deserved vote of confidence. “I stand with the speaker,” Trump declared; he also said he thinks Johnson is “doing a very good job—he’s doing about as good as you’re going to do.”

My message for MTG? Borrowing from Hillary Clinton: get over yourself. The mission today is to elect Donald Trump.

The US sent 31 M1A1 Abrams, (not the upgraded M1A2), out of the 3700 M1A1’s and M1A2’s in storage.

Some of the European NATO Countries that sent tanks and F-16’s didn’t even have tanks and F-16’s, they worked out deals to buy them and upgrade them from other European NATO Countries.

All the rest of NATO had less than 1/3rd  the number of modern tanks in active service, and modern and older models in storage, than the US has of M1A1’s and M1A2’s in storage, and the US only decided to send those few tanks after everybody else had already sent tanks.

The US has 480 Patriot systems in service, 826 in storage, and sent 1, Germany had 11, and they sent 2, with one more on the way.

ruZZia takes any volunteer willing to sign a contract, empresses foreign workers, runs bait and switch ops on foreign workers, and conscription is 18- 57. If you were once in the Soviet/ruZZan military and are 57 or younger, you can be drafted, despite having already served your conscription service.
