Sunday Morning Garden Chat: Pretty in Pink

A sweetly nostalgic mood-lifter from Delphinium:

Winter is definitely here now, with plummeting temps and rain/snow mixes. All my gardens are now dormant so wanted to share some pictures taken back in late September, from my yard and a nearby park.

Some of these plants kept flowering thru mid-late October which was a bit unusual here in Central New York but was so nice to be able to enjoy them longer.

    The new year is here. Next month the croci and daffodil’s will start to bloom.

    Spring training starts in February. The days are getting longer. We’ve turned the corner.

    @satby:

    #5 impatiens?  Either that or vinca.

    Beautiful!
    Photo 2 looks like Gaura (maybe Siskiyou Pink?).

    @eclare: an image search does lean toward vinca. It looks familiar, but not a plant I’m familiar with.

    @Mel: Made me look, and I agree it does look like that. Another plant I’m not at all familiar with. Which is not surprising, there’s probably millions 😂

    @satby:

    Very familiar with both, and yeah, leaning more toward vinca.  Impatiens are my fave yard plant, they are so cheerful, but they cannot take sun…so, I make do with vinca.

    @satby: @eclare: @Mel: Good morning! You guys are so good at id! Yes, #2 is Gaura, #5 is Vinca.

    As for the butterfly bush, had to laugh at that last blossom’s tenacity. It held on weeks after all of the other blooms were spent.

    @satby: I really like Gaura-it is very pretty and blooms a long time here. It is in my full sun gardens and holds up well in summer heat.

    @delphinium: Well, I have (probably those exact species of) the hydrangea, hibiscus, and Rose of Sharon growing in my yard too 😏

    Thanks, delphinium!  Loving all the pink flowers today!

    I have guara, but I think of it as Indian Feathers.  I have never seen it in pink, though!

    I have all but one of those flowers in my garden, so the pop quiz today  was pretty easy.

    @WaterGirl: Thanks!

    The Hibiscus, Rose of Sharon, and vinca photos are from the park nearby. It’s always a nice walk thru there to see those plants that aren’t part of my own garden.

    Ahh, lovely lovely lovely. Thank you so much, Delphinium (also one of my favorite plants).

    I entertain myself this time of year by making PowerPoints! Specifically, I arrange screenshots of the plants currently in my garden, then add screen grabs of the ones I want to order for spring, to see how the colors go with each other.  I can easily move things around and see what layout I’d like best. And then when looking out my window at the greys and browns and beiges is too depressing, I can gaze upon the colors and shapes in my PPT.

    @Mark:

    Next month the croci and daffodil’s will start to bloom.

    You obvs don’t live in my zone! I’m envious!

    @stinger: That is great and sounds like a wonderful way to get thru the bleak winter months! I’m not nearly that organized but at least try to keep a list of most of my plants : ).
