Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

We are aware of all internet traditions.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

The National Guard is not Batman.

Seth Meyers Isn’t Afraid To Tell The Truth

Scout211 linked to Seth Meyers in the morning thread.

Seth Meyers isn’t afraid to tell the truth, unlike some newspapers and other media we know.

Well worth watching, particularly on this discouraging day.  Why is there any question about this nominee?  The only question should be whether there are 4 Republican senators out of 53 who actually had standards they are unwilling to sink below.

Jesus H. Christ- first I get a banner that says I have to log in to prove I’m not a bot, and then ultimately I get a goddam Jon Fucking Stewart clip?!!

I would love to see this Seth Myers clip, but making me watch Jon Fucking Stewart is a bridge way too far

[Edited to add– damn, I’m grumpy– it’s working for me now. But still *fuck Jon Fucking Stewart.*

[Edited again to add– “…let them fight.”]

Why would you be forced to watch jon F. Stewart in order to watch Seth Meyers?  I would have told them to fuck off.

The three richest people in the world, according to Forbes (VVP is richer, I believe, off the books; he will be present in spirit.), will be sitting next to each other, on the platform, at Mr. Trump’s inauguration.
    THE WORLD’S REAL-TIME BILLIONAIRES (Forbes)

    1 Elon Musk $417.4 B
    2 Jeff Bezos $231.2 B
    3 Mark Zuckerberg $204.5 B

We did not vote for them.
(Haven’t read all of today’s threads; maybe this has been noted.)

Sadly, there don’t appear to be 4 such Senators.  Murkowski plus Ernst might net two more, and then Suzy Collins would join the bandwagon.  But it seems like Ernst got the bribe/threat from Musk and took it to heart, so we’ll see Murkowski plus Collins vote “against” Hegseth but he’ll be confirmed anyway.  (I say “against” like that because Collins is never the deciding vote against a nominee for her party)

@WaterGirl: I’m actually in a good mood and that’s why I was joking. Maybe I should be upset about the Hedgseth nomination, but it’s one of many outrages and I’ve dialed my outrage meter back.

    As someone said:

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated. If you cannot control your emotions someone else will.

And I am still not convinced Hedgeseth will be confirmed. Right now it seems like a 50-50 proposition, and some more skeletons could still come clattering out of Hedgeseth’s closet. I think there’re more in there.

I said something similar on another thread, but I predict that not only will there not be 4 Republicans voting “no” there will be 0 Republicans voting “no”. Not sure if Murkowski is a Republican or an Independent these days but it doesn’t matter because I include her in the “yes” vote column. The more interesting question is how many Democrats will vote “yes”, and I’m looking at Fetterman on this one.
