Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

All hail the time of the bunny!

“woke” is the new caravan.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Update at 1:00 pm on Friday:

The match has been met, thanks to all who donated, and to our anonymous BJ Angel, too!

This gets us to just halfway over our goal for Kimberly Pope Adams!

We have an anonymous Angel who will match donations up to $50 per person, for a total of $500, for Kimberly Pope Adams.

You all know what the stakes are, so I won’t share them here, but I would love it if some of our Virginia peeps could pop in and remind us of why these races are so important.

Let’s FLIP this seat!

Remember, people who come out to vote for state level offices usually vote the whole ticket!

@Joy in FL: Thank you!  I have spoken with her by phone and I was impressed with her.  Sharp, personable, enthusiastic.

I would LOVE to see her replace Bad Kim, who – among other things – has been involved with the fake abortion clinics.

Bad Kim is BAD.  And she doesn’t deserve another term.

And thanks, way2blue and WaterGirl, for today’s sidebar image. Mountains and oceans are all very well, but a path through the trees leads straight to my heart.

Picking the photo this morning, I thought that this being Friday, typical news dump day, we might need the comfort of walking through the woods.

Definitely worth a click to feel like you are stepping into the forest.

But with the bigger images, it’s really the difference between SEEING a beautiful photo and the FEELING like you are there.

I chipped in another $100 last night, does that count? (It’s okay if it doesn’t.)

You all know what the stakes are, so I won’t share them here, but I would love it if some of our Virginia peeps could pop in and remind us of why these races are so important.

Youngkin has been DeSantis with a smile instead of a sneer. (He literally said he saw DeSantis as a model when he was running.) He only cares about building up his future career prospects, so he’s been enthusiastically supporting all of Trump’s damaging attacks, and the only thing that has kept us from becoming Florida has been our Democratic legislature, so the bigger a wall we have there, the better.

And on the positive side, since our chances of electing Dems for governor and the other top offices in November are pretty good, we got a lot of great stuff the last time we had a Dem trifecta — greatly expanded early voting, for one. If we have one next year, we’ll definitely pass (for the required second time) state constitutional amendments protecting voting rights, abortion rights, and marriage equality.

@Redshift: Dems also passed six good gun safety laws in 2020, and Spanberger says she’ll sign an assault weapons ban if one passes next year.

But hey, have you heard about Glenn Youngkin’s new high-tech fleece vest? It changes color depending on which side of his mouth he’s talking out of!

Hooray for the angel and the donors!

Good Kim grew up in a working class family, and her priorities reflect that knowledge.

She supports good-quality free public educations, unions, reproductive choice (itself an economic issue for families), food sufficiency, rural internet access, and crime prevention.

$25 for Good Kim. Also, I read that ALL seats in VA, spec. normally uncontested “red” seats, are going to have Dem candidates. So I think there are going to be a LOT of opportunities to support a candidate of your choice. They may not win, but the Dems in those districts need to be energized AND no more GOP members sliding into seats they believe are theirs by just showing up.

      @Chris S. Sherbak: Yes!

Virginia did good – with every single seat contested by Dems.

If there’s ever a year when we might see some surprise wins, I would think it would be this year.
