Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Come on, man.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Props to Crockett for keeping her eye on the ball and locking in for what's coming. Anyone thinking of dwelling on the primary should take note.

I am back in D.C. to hear from cruel Kristi Noem on why she is complicit in the chaos happening at DHS, vote on a War Powers Resolution to rein Donald Trump in, and vote against a DHS funding bill that does nothing to address the reckless actions we’re seeing from ICE.
The work continues.

— Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (@crockett.house.gov) March 4, 2026 at 11:25 AM

We are seeing the best possible outcome that Democrats could want: Talarico gets a clean win and gets a six-week head start while Paxton and Cornyn cut each other up for two weeks.

“A perfect storm is lining up for Texas Democrats,” @mmckinnon.bsky.social tells @adamwren.bsky.social. “They have a nominee who can appeal to moderates and soft Republicans. Talarico could be Moses who leads the Lone Star Democrats out of the desert they’ve been in for 35 years.”

From a long, very relevant pre-election thread:

Long thread breaking down the arguments around electability, James Talarico, Jasmine Crockett and how we got to the point where we are tomorrow. So bear with me. I know a lot of people On Here™ think I am anti-Crockett. But I've actually always had an incredibly productive relationship with her. 1/

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 2, 2026 at 11:17 PM

I profiled Crockett in 2024 as her star began to rise on the Oversight Committee. Two things stood out to me in this profile: One, she didn't want to initially be on the House Oversight Committee. She wanted Judiciary, but Jamie Raskin convinced her. 2/

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 2, 2026 at 11:19 PM

That became the best thing for her brand, which became confronting Republicans. It's how she got "Bleach Blonde Bad-Built Butch Body" with Marjorie Taylor Greene and the whole back-and-forth with Nancy Mace where Mace asked to fight her outside.

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 2, 2026 at 11:20 PM

The other thing that stood out: "I've heard way too often that Democrats are weak and that kind of stuff, and that's just not true…I think that I'm also supposed to be the person that is really saying what everybody else is thinking that never gets said."
www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a…

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 2, 2026 at 11:22 PM

The other big thing I noticed is that she was a Biden ride-or-die. She joined Biden at his Black voter event launch in Philly, even if Biden didn't allow her (or Wes Moore) to speak. The day after the debate, she did the thankless job of defending Biden. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a…

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 2, 2026 at 11:26 PM

So essentially what you see here is that Crockett was told what a lot of younger Democrats are told: Wait your turn, get in line and stand behind the old guard, even when it sucks. Then something changed: Trump won and Democrats were done with decorum.

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 2, 2026 at 11:29 PM

…

By contrast, Talarico is running on the premise he can win over people who voted for Trump (namely young men via his apperance on Joe Rogan, Christian conservatives because of his discussions on faith and Latinos). But while he's earned hype (Rogan praised him), he's never run statewide.

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 3, 2026 at 12:04 AM

Talarico won, Crockett has pledged her support, now it’s up to him to take the fight to the Republicans.

Here's the thing: Talarico still has an uphill fight to actually win in Texas. It's still Texas.
SO, if he wins. That means Democrats aren't just winning North Carolina, Maine and Ohio. It means they probably flip Iowa or Alaska as well.

— Eric Michael Garcia (@ericmgarcia.bsky.social) March 4, 2026 at 1:14 AM

Kamala Harris endorses James Talarico for U.S. Senate after supporting his opponent in the primary…
After endorsing U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary, the former vice president called for the party to unite behind Talarico.

You’re not racist if you voted for James Talarico, but I wish some folks would just admit that they voted for Talarico not because he’s better, just whiter. And in this country, our default is supporting candidates we think other white people will vote for. That is identity politics.

I don’t think it’s racist to think that too many of your fellow American’s are racist. Or misogynistic. My father and I discussed this sadly after Clinton lost and it impacted my votes in Florida primaries. Biden winning the first time only reinforced it. I hated thinking that way, but I recall long time black regulars here saying they always had to think like that for decades, and they didn’t like voters who wanted to fall in love or only vote for a perfect candidate.

But Obama won. Twice. That means it’s not hopeless. When is the moment you can really vote for the better candidate? How do you tell? When are you giving up that you shouldn’t? That’s why the polls getting unreliable and the news getting more obviously slanted is a problem. We need some honest feedback. Democracy works based on crowds. It’s not supposed to be individuals, it’s consensus. We don’t just need the presidency. We need a majority in multiple branches for awhile. So we all have to think about strategic voting to win multiple races. It’s hard.

What’s this two week, six week stuff? I read in different places yesterday and this morning that the runoff is on May 26, which is 12 weeks from yesterday.

I’m no political analyst, but isn’t that 12 weeks for both Talarico’s head start and for Paxton and Cornyn knifing each other?

@Baud: The turnout numbers were encouraging.

      Yes.

      Politico:

Texas Latinos turned out in massive numbers for Democrats

Latino voters flocked to Tuesday’s Democratic primary in Texas in droves, reversing a long-running erosion for the party ahead of this year’s pivotal midterms.

The numbers were dramatic: In five different rural majority-Latino counties, more votes were cast in Tuesday’s Democratic primary than for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

      . . .

The turnout surge among Hispanic and Latino voters helped power state Rep. James Talarico’s Senate primary victory over Rep. Jasmine Crockett, setting him up for a general election that has ignited Democrats’ fever dream of finally flipping Texas. In counties that are majority-Latino, Talarico won by roughly 22 points, according to preliminary results, compared to a roughly 3-point margin of victory over Crockett in the rest of the state.

It’s the latest sign that Latino voters who helped President Donald Trump return to the White House are not inherently sticking with Republicans. Democratic candidates put up strong numbers in predominantly Latino areas in gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey last November, as well as a smattering of special elections, including a state senate race in Fort Worthjust last month.

      Just watched Talarico’s speech.

      He cannot be stopped.

He may be the most radical candidate ever to run. And he looks like the sweetest white boy.

His basic message is: Billionaires are bad. Do like Jesus. Love. Tear it all down.

As a Texas Dem and proven “radical leftist activist” who voted for Crockett, let me say that we are going to move heaven and earth to ensure that Republicans finally lose here in the Lone Star State.

Trump (adjudicated rapist and Epstein fan) is going to ruin the GOP cause, and we are going to ensure that it happens.

I like Crockett. I think she has character and her generous concession message confirmed that for me. I didn’t follow the TX primary closely but I’m glad both candidates are seeking unity. Talarico is a very fluid speaker — the best I’ve seen in quite some time — and I really hope that means he can sway a lot of TX voters who don’t usually cast a vote for Democrats to do so this time. He’s got game.

Mad props to Jasmine Crockett. I so wanted her to win. She gave incredibly moving and cogent speeches, but clearly I wasn’t her target audience.

President Donald Trump said he would “soon” endorse a candidate in the Republican primary runoff for U.S. Senate and, in doing so, call on whomever he does not endorse to drop out of the race — though he did not specify whether he would back Sen. John Cornyn or Attorney General Ken Paxton.

@Balconesfault: this is why the people who claim that Instant Runoff Voting will eliminate negative campaigning have been proven wrong every time. Sure, the candidates don’t attack each other directly, but it just means that the PACs supporting them do the “dirty” work and try to find ways to drive their opponent’s negatives up.

I’m sure there were some people that voted for Talarico because he’s white and Crockett is black. Some of that was voter racism, some of it was probably assumptions about other voters racism.

It does sound like Talarico ran a stronger conventional campaign in terms of advertising and so forth and Crockett had some real questions about getting her campaign out of first gear with her late start. But outside of Allred getting shoved to the side and being Big Mad about it, there doesn’t seem to be much bitterness between Crockett and Talarico supporters or the candidates themselves. Hopefully the party will help Crockett find something to give her a platform to work from if she wants to push on towards running state-wide again.
