Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Rachel Maddow is hosting Davd Gregory’s 6pm MSNBC show, which could signal that Gregory might get the MTP gig, and Maddow would pick up the 6pm show.

Or, horror of horrors- Matthews goes to MTP, Gregory gets Hardball, and Maddow gets the 6 o’clocl.

Or maybe Gregory is just sick.

Who knows?

BTW- I think Michael Smerconish is a whole helluva lot better on tv than he was last year when he was filling in for Imus.

How about Maddow gets MTP, Gregory gets Hardball, and Matthews gets The Race for the White House Show, and after the election is retired from television?

In an alternate universe, Matthews would be a shoe-in. He’s a well-known personality who knows a good deal about politics.

Unfortunately, he is bat shit insane. I am not sure if Sunday morning viewers can take it if he starts one of his patented nonsensical rants about men’s codpieces and how manly men are and how he likes manly men.

still think Moyers would be a great choice for MTP,
and Maddow should have her own show, maybe with David Shuster

It’s exciting to hear Rachel in the driver’s seat! Although I hope she doesn’t overcompensate end up favoring McCain.

If Maddow gets a primetime spot, I could care less who gets MTP.

Maddow did a very good job today. I was particularly impressed with how well she ran the panel portion of the show. She kept things moving while allowing the panelists to express complete thoughts. No matter how the MTP thing comes out I hope that they give her a shot.
Smerconish seems to have improved considerably since he migrated from talk radio.

As for the Obama picking Sam Nunn as the VP:

For what its worth, Obama took Nunn’s place in the Nunn-Lugar non-proliferation program.

    Just sayin’.

My prediction: Couric to Countdown, Olbermann to replace Maddows on Race for the White House, Maddows upgraded to Gregory’s spot, Gregory goes to MTP which he co-hosts with Matthews, and Hardball is guest-hosted each week with Chuck Todd as the backup!

Why does Couric’s name keep coming up? First of all, she is just terrible. Second, isn’t she busy tanking the CBS news ratings?

Yeah, just watched Maddow and agree she did really well. Olbermann mentioned that when she filled in for him the ratings were really huge, so I’m sure MSNBC is trying to get her more airtime anywhere they can.

Slightly off-topic, I finally watched the MTP from this Sunday and agree that it was handled well. I will say, however, that watching Doris Kearns Goodwin popping out of the birthday cake in a Marilyn Monroe wig and singing at Russert’s 50th b-day party was one of the single most disturbing things I’ve ever seen on television.

I’m putting all my virtual money on Chucky T for MTP. I’ve started a “Chuck Todd Facial Hair Watch” ’cause he’d have to ditch the goat. Notice also that Chuck is awol all day today on MSNBC with his “deputy” filling in when needed. Methinks a big audition is going on in DC.

It could have been worse. It could have been Kate O’Beirne.

Why does Couric’s name keep coming up?

I asked the same thing over at Mahablog earlier. I don’t get why that possibility started being bandied about. She’s destined for an Oprah-like gig or a return to a morning show. There’s no way in hell she’s getting MTP.

Why does Couric’s name keep coming up?

It will soon be discovered that Couric’s true metier is late night infomercials for questionable weight loss regimes, schemes that enable you to make $$$$$$$! working from home, and toxic timeshares.

Rachel was great asking the panel questions. Often that panel comes across as rude rather than sounding intelligent. They were better because of her direction. Do you think that she could handle Matalin and Carville?

I’d like to think that Maddow is bright enough not to have them on the show.

Fortunately, Peggy Noonan is too busy fellating the decomposing corpse of Ronald Reagan in his crypt to do something like pop out of a cake.

OT: The zinger of the day from Al Gore, speaking on behalf of Obama in Michigan tonight.

Gore started by saying that he was someone who can appreciate that after the last 8 years, elections matter.

Then, after reciting a long list of the crimes and follies of the Bush admin and the people feeling the impact of each one, each mention ending with the refrain “they know that elections matter”, he wound up with a reference to the tainted pet food from China, and the line:

“after the last 8 years even our cats and dogs understand that elections matter”

ouch, that’s gonna leave a mark.

If McCain picks Romney for VP he’ll really be screwing the pooch.

Why the heck would NBC take Couric back after she jumped to CBS?

The thought of Katie trying to back Dickhead Cheney into a corner causes severe cognitive dissonance.

I heard that Smerconish was supposed to suck and that he was a wingnut, but I like watching him. He often surprises as to which side of an argument that he will come down on, and his reasoning is pretty well thought out. Relatively.
