    Um, “rich in 84 different minerals and trace elements” and “pure” are kind of at odds with each other. Should our salt be pure NaCl, or should it have lots of other stuff in it?

    But since I got into cooking I’ve indulged in it, and it DOES taste better. I bought five pounds for $19, and I figure I’m set for a few decades.

    I am not a cook, but I can’t see how trace impurities would have any significant effect on the taste of a dish. I’ve certainly never heard of a chef recommending that people go to a laboratory supply house and buy reagent-grade sodium chloride, which is the purest salt you can buy anywhere.

    So, my thing is writing. I wrote a book that had to be print-on-demand because the market is small but intense — it’s about my family in the first year after my 45 yr old husband broke his neck skiing.

    You can buy new copies at lulu, or used ones at amazon.

    People who need to read it are generally NOT people with injuries, eh? Their families are, especially their extended families and friends who CAN’T imagine the detailed effed-uppedness of the whole scene. It’s like getting sent to another planet, except you’re still in your neighborhood. It’s like suddenly and permanently becoming “other,” except you’re still right there with your main peeps.

    People like it a lot, once they get past the oh this is too sad for anything moment.

    I’m told it’s a page turner; I only know that I wanted to display my morbid sense of humor along with my community’s extravagant love.

    @Citizen_X: A quick Google returns elemental assays of Himalayan pink salt from a few sources.

    Surprise! The two most common elements in it are sodium and chlorine (98% NaCl). The other substantial trace elements include sulfur (more than 1% by weight apparently), magnesium, potassium and calcium with a dash of lithium. The rest of the trace elements are in the parts per million region which will be totally ineffective in the human system unless you’re eating a kilo of this stuff every day. One element missing from the assay which could actually be healthful in very small doses is iodine. You can get that from iodised salt though.

    @hitchhiker: A friend of mine did something similar for her boy – my young friend – around his, well, shit. I’ve tried to finish that sentence a few times. Around his dying of cancer at 18, and the three years since diagnosis leading up to that. Hard, sad, funny, tedious at times – a gift to the world, I think.

    Lauren Ipsum, by Carlos Bueno: Laurie is lost in Userland. She knows where she is, or where she’s going, but maybe not at the same time.     This isn’t mine, but my mother has just started her own book repair business (a proper web presence will be coming later, or sooner, since I was laid off from my web job last week). She’s yet to post her full gallery of pictures on her Facebook, but I’ve seen some really amazing repairs she’s done with books that looked like lost causes. She’s even offered to teach me, and I’ll probably take her up on it.

    @Valdivia: Well, what I will probably do is get one or two of the framed images and then order a bunch of different images in the notecard size and play with them and eventually frame several in a group. I really love the geometric patterns and am eager to see how they work with each other. You have an astonishing eye. The angles of some of the shots, I think, must expose things about the buildings that even the architects themselves never saw.

    That is such a generous offer, to send the picture files. Thank you so much. It might help me choose — or it might just make me want them all :-)
