Jeebus, they’re screaming on my teevee about SNOW! OMG, SNOW!
WTF? I mean, seriously folks? We’re supposed to get 2-4 inches. We’ve gotten feet of snow in March. Many times in my lifetime. Chill the fuck out.
@BGinCHI: Yeah, I have a friend in Chicago and the snow looked heavy and wet and probably heading toward icy niceness (not). MD gets it tomorrow. They say 5 inches. I say maybe 1/2 inch and the rest cold rain. This being the DC area, they’re calling the possible snowstorm “snowquestration” (groan).

What’s even more ridiculous this time is that it will be gone by tomorrow afternoon when the temps go up to the upper 30s. I hate these panics. I swear that the teevee weather critters are in cahoots with the grocery stores so they can sell tons of bread, milk, and eggs in the ensuing panic buying.

@Omnes Omnibus: I’ve lived in Georgia for 27 years. I used to really laugh about how they freak out at the mere possibility of snow until I saw
1. They have no ability or equipment to deal with it.
2. The dumb fuckers can’t drive in it.
3. The trees can’t handle big wet snow so power goes out forever.
Four years ago this week we got hammered in this weird storm that only hit in a 40 mile radius around Athens, people in Atlanta couldn’t believe what happened. I had friends without power for a week. Huge oaks all over our neighborhood fell. It’s not the same as it is where ya’ll know what you are doing.

Waiting on the new SimCity to finish downloading updates. I haven’t played a Sim game since SimAnt, when I was a teenager, so I am real excited to start recreating some of my old city designs. Now if they’d just do an update to Populous, I’d be 100% content.

Your fiance has bad timing, poor thing. In good times, it’s a hard row to hoe. And these aren’t good times in academia.
Though it’s nice that, as bad as things are in colleges and universities, it’s even worse among the for-profits. They are fighting for their lives because of the new rules regarding federal student aid, which they will never be able to fulfill because their whole business model is to make money from Title IV funding without actually delivering the product diploma to a majority of their customers students. Another thing Obama never gets credit for, by the way.

Yeah, we knew…@Keith: Let us know how it is. Not thrilled with the registration crap, but I do love me some SimCity. The boy wants it too. Curious if it’s worth the money.
I am sat here in a house with no running water cause my local water company is staffed with fucking morons. I called yesterday and told them that I thought my meter was leaking because the hole where the meter lives was constantly full of water even after a week with no rain. They sent someone out today who promptly found the leak TWO INCHES from the meter on MY side and turned off my water, helpfully leaving a note on my door knob which I didn’t find until I got home at 5:30pm saying the water could not be turned back on until an employee of the company or a licensed plumber had fixed the leak. What are my chances of finding a plumber to come out and fix a leaking pipe at 6pm in the evening when it is dark outside? They couldn’t call me at 9:30 am when they turned off the water? At least giving me time to get a plumber out there in daylight hours? WTF?
I called the company’s after hours line and the lady there was very helpful and told me that the water was turned off but *cough* *cough* “it isn’t locked, so perhaps you could have *cough* “someone” look at it and turn it back on until you can have it repaired”. So DH is coming home from work early so he can “look at it” and turn the water back on cause I sure as hell couldn’t when I tried (damn that lack of upper arm strength).
What is wrong with these people? I mean it is not like it is costing them any money, if the leak is on my side of the meter then I am paying for the damn water regardless.

On another topic, I was on the weather channel website today trying to get up to date snow info & for some reason they had linked articles to the worst states & cities in the US to live. Depressing number of those cities were in Michigan. But their criteria must be really weird, because along with Camden, NJ (a true 3rd world hellhole) they listed Cleveland, Chicago and New York.
