Can I ask… I haven’t seen a posting by Freddie D. here in months. Is he on hiatus? Did he quit? I’ve asked before and never received an answer. I know he got roughed up for comments made elsewhere on the web. Did he take his ball and go home?

Drinking a Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale. My tolerance for drinking high-alcohol beers (this is 9.6% ABV) ain’t that great, but this is a really smooth drink – light hops, a slight burn as you drink it, but this is one that I could tank myself on easily without even trying to. I really like all of the limited releases that Lagunitas does – their Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Ale was phenomenal.
Anyways, I am +1 for the day. Catching up on a shitload of Yelp reviews that I need to write up so that I don’t feel like I need to retain the memory of everything I’ve eaten the past 2 weeks in my head.

Damn, aside from being a great singer in her own right, I remember loving her and her band the Dap Kings (who Amy Winehouse used as her back up band on her breakout debut). If you’ve never heard Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings ya’ll are missing out.

One of my fav Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings songs. Sounds like a cool new age version of an old James Brown song doesn’t it.

Ok, I admit, I’m looking forward to seeing the new Man of Steel film, particularly after being disappointed in the Iron Man film. I know it’s DC Comics and not Marvel, but Superman was my first big male superhero character (I’ve already said in the past that Wonder Woman is hands down my fav superhero).
I’m actually hoping it’s a good as it seems it might be…fingers crossed.‘Man of Steel’ Featurette Explains the Suit, the ‘S’ and the Real World (Video)

Rivalry between India and Pakistan in any sport is a big deal for Indians and Pakistanis, but I think more so in cricket than in hockey. Other rivalries? Let’s see … Malaysia and Indonesia in men’s badminton and the regional sport of sepak takraw are all that come to mind for now.

@lamh35: Uh, well, I’m probably admitting too much here, but I did sort of dig the spanking scene from Flash. How ’bout a double-feature: Flash Gordon & Buckaroo Bonzai (Across the 8th Dimension)? Sci-fi cheese of epic proportions!

@MikeJ: One time, our girl’s field hockey team at our high school asked the marching band to bring a skeleton crew to their game. As a brand-new freshman at the time (and an enthusiastic tromboner to boot), I volunteered to join about 15 others to come to the game. We made a total ass of ourselves, doing all sorts of random chants, playing not exactly to standards, and having a rollicking good time.
Our band teacher chewed the shit out of us the next day. I still remember it as one of my fondest experiences from my 4 years in the band.

On the bright side to this game, looks like Bruins might not know what facing a Stanley Cup caliber team is like in this playoff before facing the Hawks. Seriously though Pens look like shit. Not that they can’t get back from it (Hawks did from their own rut against Detroit) but they’ll have to settle for at least 2 road wins to do it.

@Amir Khalid: I’ve read about the Will Smith film today. Ironically, I think the film would have done better WITHOUT the son in it. People like Will Smith ’cause he was that kid who came up from meager beginings, people, rightly or wrongly, don’t quite have the same love for kids who’s parents basically “buy” them blockbuster movies to star in.
Besides which, I just don’t see the Smiths movie being the campy fun that Flash Gordon has become.
As for Stephanie Myers, as I’ve said before, I prefer my wolves and vampires to look like the rapid beast they are supposed to be and not like they came from a couple of pages of Teen Beat!

I thinking of The Host, which I saw because it had that Irish kid Saoirse Ronan who was just awesome in The Lovely Bones. But even she couldn’t hide its many stupidities — William Hurt’s wheat farm in a cave, alien magic spray-cologne medicine, going through the whole movie arguing with her own voice-over — and the movie is painful to watch.

@raven: I remember being in the stadium, but very little about actual games. Alcohol was forbidden at Faurot Field, so pre game we would head over to Reactor Field, by the nuke, and watch the rugby match. Since there were very few people there, you could get well and truly plastered. By the time we got to the football game things were a bit of a blur.
I do remember the game where we almost beat Notre Dame. Lost by two after missing a last second field goal.

Holy crap, I just took a careful look at the Bruin’s 5th goal.
