I have stated repeatedly that I think Dean is going to win the nomination. I am just surprised he has not modeled his campaign after the ones run by Clinton and Bush II. Other than the “It’s the Economy, Stupid” and the derision of Republicans, if my memory serves correctly, Clinton ran a pretty upbeat campaign- he had things he wanted to do. Same for Bush II.
All Dean has done is vent his spleen, tap into hysteria and fear, and I really, honestly have no idea of anything he is in favor of- except election.

John, it drives me up the wall when people on the right claim that the Dem candidates aren’t saying what they stand for. They are, and have hit these issues consistently in their speeches (as far as Kerry, Edwards, Dean, Graham and Gephardt go at least). But of course the media is going to cover their anti-Bush stances more. That’s how politics is covered.
To retort your second point about the Clinton and Bush II campaigns, both of those candidacies had the alleged failure of their predecessors as a linchpin. Clinton asked the “are you better of now?” question while Bush whined “they had their chance”. That’s how the game is played.

I’d like to know (from ‘Thomas’ if not Dean himself) just what are the ‘first–through–nth” places where other open dialogue now occurs (or occured).

Clearly, Oliver, I know what he stands for- I have been one of the many Republican bloggers who has stated repeatedly that I don;t recognize Candidate Dean from Governor Dean. He was a moderate as Gov., now he is angry, petulant, and bitter. My point was all the Democrats seem to do is attack, all the while claiming they don;t play hard enough, and no one ever says what they want to do. So, in a brand new forum, what does Dean do- scare tactics.
It is damned tiresome.

I guess it depends on what you mean by ‘open dialogue’. Crossfire or something similar provides something resembling dialogue. Magazines like the New Republic and the Weekly Standard, maybe…I don’t know. There’s certainly fodder for dialogue, if you know where to look, but these are publications and shows aimed at a small and supposedly-elite audience. I’m also fairly certain that neither the New Republic or the Weekly Standard make money, though I may be wrong.
The bigger problem is for people who don’t read the NYTimes or the Post or spend hours on blogs. Where you don’t have dialogue, or even thought, is in the nightly news, most newspapers, and almost every business section of every paper. The latter especially: it’s almost indistinguishable from the p.r. put out by the industries being discussed, which is not surprising, since a lot of ‘news’ was actually p.r. in disguise.
