Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Everybody saw this coming.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Come on, man.

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Okay, looks like the meetup is between 6 and 6:30 at Slatts Pub in downtown Blue Ash.

Just have to let Slatts know we’re coming and get a couple o green balloons. Crossing my fingers all goes as planned…

ETA: Arrival time is 6-6:30. Don’t know how long Steve in the ATL stays up.

Remember, guys: Pics, or it didn’t happen!

I love the name Blue Ash. Have fun and send photos so we can see what the globe-trotting Steve in Place-Name-Herw really looks like.

    1. I tend to stay up late, but I will definitely be up still at 6-6:30; and

    2. I was in at least three photos from the San Fran meetup last year!

Unfortunately my wife is sick with an ear and sinus infection. I’d love to attend, but can’t abandon her to the tender mercies of the 6 year old: a fate worse than death.

    Enjoy the dinner, folks!

BTW, I’m thrilled that the green balloon tradition has stuck.

This is pretty much how I see Harris’ position in the primary.

Add in the advantage of an early CA primary, and I expect she’ll be the early favorite.

@Martin: I’m really hoping there aren’t just three (or so) top contenders right out of the gate. I’d like to see some good discussions of positions on the issues and also get a feel for how everybody does once they are in the spotlight and in contention for the nomination.

That said, Kamala Harris and Beto O’Rourke are my favorites at this point, not necessarily in that order.

@Selius: I think you are number three coming down from Dayton that I know of.

@Another Scott: Learning how to spell my adopted city’s name was a challenge. There are so many ways to combine those four letters.

@Alternative Fax, a hip hop artist from Idaho: Yes, it’s a good thing Steve is providing us with a practice run for the SD meet-up.

@Martin: OMG. I will never be able to look at green balloon the same way ever again. Thanks, I guess.

    @Mary G:

Blue Ash was named after all the Blue Ash trees that used to be there before being decimated by the emerald ash borer.

    Quite sickening to be honest.

I used to hang out there a lot in the 90’s. I had a very good friend living there.

@Alternative Fax, a hip hop artist from Idaho: @Ohio Mom: Thank you very much! I will pass on the good wishes. At this point, she is on her 3rd round of antibiotics, and will need to see an ENT guy.

The spawn passed it on to us. We’re still suffering, almost 6 weeks later. Meanwhile, he’s busy burning the house down, while mom and dad are too busy trying to breathe…

It’s 6:03. I’m seated at Slatts with two green balloons floating above me. I guess everyone else is going to be fashionably late.

Love Cincinnati. Went there for the first time as a lawyer/volunteer for the Clinton campaign in November 2016. Changed my return flight to spend some time exploring the city. Totally underrated destination. The great museums, chili and craft beer took the edge of my incipient post-election depression.

@Peppermint Patrick: Whoa, I also went to Cincinnati to serve as a lawyer volunteer for the 2016 election! Sounds like we both used some of the same self-care techniques to get through the next day; I spent the morning at the Underground Railroad Museum, which was amazing. Then Skyline chili before heading off to the airport. The entire experience was surreal.

@Ohio Mom: Thanks, Ohio Mom, for organizing this. It was so much fun to have dinner with people who get references to Adam Schiff and cheer the news that Steve King was stripped of his chairmanships. Very different from everyday life for me. :D
