    OT, so will put it here…woke up to see Eric Adams is 9 points ahead of Maya Wiley, with Garcia (my number 1) a couple points behind. Unless Garcia converts virtually all of Yang’s votes to her as #2, this is a done deal…which kind of sucks. I can’t imagine Adams to be worse than de Blasio – that’s hard to do – but he’s a machine guy through and through, and much of his career suggests he will simply do what is best for him.

    NYC – great job throwing out mediocre candidates for mayor yet again. Sheesh…

    Well, once I started, I might as well go through the whole tourney, right?

    I can’t pretend to understand the sport, I can’t be available to post when the games are played (assuming I could figure out the schedule).  But at least this way, footie fans have a place to blow off steam after the previous day’s events!

    Harry Kane does not look like Harry Kane right now. Looks ground down after a long season. Thought Grealish and Saka added a little life to the attack, but Southgate has England playing very conservatively and there’s little flow to the game. I don’t think that’s going to get it done in the knockout rounds. (and it’ll get worse if he reverts to Foden & Mount, but COVID protocols might stop him there)

    @Anne Laurie: THANK you for posting these.  I really appreciate it–I often can’t check in at the time they’re posted (or when the games are played), but I nearly always read them, even if sometimes a day late.  (Spending time with my grandchildren this month means not much free daytime, especially with the two early risers who are up between 5:30-6:30 every. single. morning…for the last 8 1/2 and 5 years.)

    Admittedly, I’d stretch to see/read on time if it were the women playing, but the men I’m fine with reading whenever this shows up.

    No idea why the penalty on Semedo is remotely controversial. He hip-checked Mbappe to the ground, it was clearly inside the area, and if he hadn’t Mbappe would have been in alone waiting for Pogba’s perfectly weighted chip to come down for the easiest of finishes.
