Apparently, a large part of today’s proceedings in Boston will be the lionization of the senior Senator from Massachussetts, Ted Kennedy, for all of his years of service.
Yesterday would have been Mary Jo Kopechne’s 64th birthday, and it was 35 years and nine days ago that Ted Kennedy left her stranded in the bottom of a canal to drown in order to save his political career.

Seven hours later and I’m the first to comment on this:
Politically, no one gives a shit anymore about Chappaquiddick (I don’t care if that’s spelled properly or not). No one except Jeff Goldstein and yourself.

Not really true — there’s a whole cottage industry on the Right that’s more or less devoted to it. My problem is that it literally happened eight years before I was born.

Plenty of people still care about it, but the idiotic voters of Massachusettes keep sending the scumbag back to the Senate.
So, it’s not that people don’t care. It’s just that if the people of Massachusettes don’t mind having this fat, drunken worthless coward as their senator, not a lot people can do.
That being said, it’s always helpful to remind people every now and then that this giant in the Democratic party is coward and a pig who left a helpless woman to die.
And before anyone spews the talking points, Laura Bush was 17 yrs old, not a United States senator, and not drunk, and faced up to what she did.
And Bill Janklow isn’t a leader in the Republican party.

I wish Ted would just go away and that the Dem’s would stop lionizing him and the Repub’s would have no reason to bring him up any more.

Meh, it’s all youthful indiscretions anyway.

Oh…Henry Hyde killed someone?

Oh.
It seems the statute of limitations on politicians has been repealed.
