A Sure Sign

A sure sign the convention is going well- the petulance and bile from the left:

Now Bush is introducing Laura via satellite — he’s standing in front of a fucking softball game. A softball game. The President has traveled to a fucking late-night sandlot to show his reg’lar guy credentials and note that he too loves his wife. This family sucks. They have absolutely no respect for the historic nature of their position and nowhere near the dignity to refrain from pretending they’re jus’ ordinary folks.

Really though- republicans are the mean people. I guess Bush’s life-long love affair with baseball was merely just another opportunity to flash his ‘regular guy’ credentials. Same with all the t-ball games at the White House. But really- Democrats don’t dislike Bush. There is no Bush hate. They just don’t like his policies.

Perhaps Bush should take a cue from the Kerry crew and try some of these wildly successful ‘regular guy’ photo-ops:

ker_ken.jpg
Lounging on the Kennedy yacht, a typical ‘regular guy’ activity.

John_Kerry_Hunt_sm.jpg
Reg’lar guy John Kerry on a pheasant hunt in Iowa.

johnkerry-hockey2.jpg
Reg’lar guy John Kerry during the French National anthem before mixing it up on the ice.

kerrysnow.jpg
Reg’lar guy Kerry shows hisprowess on snow. Wait- he is good with ice and snow, and is haunted by his Vietnam memories. Maybe he should be Postmaster General?

carhart.jpg
Reg’lar guys wear Carhart. And John Kerry is a reg’lar guy! In Iowa! I would have paid cash money to watch him looking for ears of corn in the sorghum fields.

kerry2.jpg
Reg’lar guys eat their food this way.

Clearly it is understandable why Ezra is mad at the campaign stops the President is making. Clearly there is lots of evidence to provethis is how this ‘family sucks.”

I wonder if people who donated to the the Brothers Grimm for this type of coverage can get a refund?

The funny thing about that last shot is that it was taken at a famous Cheesesteak shop in downtown Philly.

When asked what type of cheese Kerry wanted, he replied: “Swiss” which was a serious no-no. The C.S. shop owners also said as much. Cheese Whiz is the ONLY acceptable answer when ordering a Philly C.S.

He also asked that no one photograph him while eating. Guess it was too good a shot to resist.

Declan, as product of Philly I can assure you that Provolone and mozzarella are not only acceptable, but preferable on cheesesteaks. Cheeze Whiz is an abomination, but it’s still better then swiss.

P.S. Last time I visited I discovered the all time best cheesesteak shop (Amadeo’s in King of Prussia) is no more. Bitter tears.

    Provolone!

And, IMO, the best cheese steaks are to be found in Wilmington, DE. Which is pretty much a suburb of Philadelphia, I guess.

declan is half right. Whiz is the only acceptable answer at the particular shop Kerry was at, which was either Pat’s or Geno’s (i forget which one it was, they’re right across the street from each other), which are both overrated tourist traps.

I’d give my two cents as to the best, but despite being south philly born and raised, i hate cheesesteaks. The only time i have one is if i’m hung over, at which point i go to Jim’s on South street, cuz it’s only three blocks from my house.

I can’t back you on that one JohnO. Last time I was at Pat’s and got a mushroom & pepper cheese steak it came with cheez whiz. Sure, american and provelone are available but Cheez Whiz is what makes a classic. Swiss? Feh.

Provolone, American, Mozzarella are good choices. Cheese Whiz is disgusting. Last time I was at Pat’s, I got a really lousy cheesesteak and won’t return there. It’s a tourist trap, as another commenter intimated.

Billybob’s over in West Philly was great, but I moved out years ago, so I don’t know. Jim’s still makes a good steak.

I think the Swiss thing is overblown. Kerry likes Swiss cheese. So what? The customer is always right. I don’t like working-class snobbery anymore than upper-class snobbery.

Crikey, eat the cheesesteak how you like it. It isn’t my cheesesteak (I prefer American). Its sort of like arguing with a guy because he likes the color blue and you are trying to convince him that green is a much superior color.

Kerry doesn’t like cheesesteak with whiz, he doesn’t like cheesesteak with swiss, he’s faking and should just play along with local custom to better con the proles.

Swiss sometimes would be alright, tons of monterey jack and provolone and it’s stoner food of a lifetime. Could be alright with cheez whiz, but it sounds so blah.

I’m from CA, so only sports bars and Jack in the box. Imagine ordering a philly cheesesteak from Jack in the Crack in Philadephia. HAHA, oh no, those are some weak ass sandwiches.I NEED A REAL ONE!

I used to go all the time, to this place in Stockton,CA where I lived….and sandwich wise, Podesto’s (which whom Gary Podesto running for senate whom owns the store) I won’t vote for him though, even though he had some bomb sandwiches at his store, but who knows…..I may try one of his sandwiches I haven’t had in awhile and I may change my vote, I mean I really might, those sandwiches taste so damn good.
    I NEED A REAL ONE!

Cheese, what a delicious food. I could speak of the types and different locales that I consumed them at..the sunny and pleasant shores of Santa Barbara or the aromatic and honestly RNC like Havarti.. OH no, I am frikkin John Cole delirious. My name is John Cole and my election season duties have been reduced to condemning: eating habits(hopefully no incorrect cheese), no not so suitable hobbies and poor jacket selection.

Last minute RNC instruction: SHOW CANDIDATE WITH KENNEDY FAMILY.

What’s next? Real live Kennedy? Maybe he saw him at the office. Get something new….

And you all get 10 demerits for not noting the most delightful bit about the softball game: at least 3 players in black t-shirts came to bat during the President’s presentation, and each one was #43. The opposing team in white shirts only showed the catcher, who was wearing – you guessied right – #43. Apparently Bush campaign donated some uniform T-shirts for the photo op. I like that kind of underplayed lighthearted subtlety.

Absent some compelling policy announcement, I find Party Conventions terminally boring, so you won’t be getting a lot of “I watched TV and here’s what I thought” stuff from me. I just don’t have much to add to the Dog…
