[…] I am glad to see Broncs diehard Jeff Goldstein is ok. I was on the other end last year and miserable for a good while. […]

The team’s been running on fumes for a month and we got more out of Big Ben this year than we had any right to expect. He hit the same wall all rookies hit (11 games). I’m a lot happier about the next 10-15 Steeler years, though, than I would be without him.

I think Jim nailed it: the Steelers peaked during late October and early November, and had been trending downwards ever since — toward the end of the regular season they were barely getting past some pretty mediocre opponents. And if last week the Jets have competent coaching and/or Doug Brien makes one of those two field goal attempts, the Steelers are watching this game on television. That’s not a good kind of momentum to be riding into a conference championship game.
I don’t have a lot of respect for Bill Cowher — beneath the thrust-chin tough guy facade, he’s always struck me as somebody who’s much too much in touch with his Inner Two-Year-Old to keep a professional coaching gig. But even though I suspect this loss will sting for a while, I think Steelers fans have a lot to be proud of this team for. The future with Big Ben at the helm certainly looks bright.
