    On ‘Masterpiece Classics’ there’s the latest version of ‘Emma.’

    Thank you, my local PBS station, for not having ‘Celtic Thunder’ or ‘Change your Brain with Dr. Amen’ for the umpteenth time. Beg-A-Thon time again.

    Should be a new Treme. Apparently the NBA finals are persona non grata around here but the anti “hip-hop” crowd should be happy because hockey is on too. Not much action surrounding the anniversary of D-Day anywhere today.

    @demo woman:

    well personally I think Elton is a genius, ripping off Limbaugh for a cool mil for one song. I should imagine that Elton is a little like my boss when he gets a client in with a really lousy or whatever case he tells them so, then when they insist that they really do have the best lawsuit in the world he says “okay pay me $10,000.00 and I will take the case” I should imagine Elton was the same “will you play at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding?” “yeah right, only if he pays me 1 million per song” I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Elton didn’t give the 1 million to some favorite liberal leftist communist charity just to piss off Limbaugh post wedding.

    A new Treme but I’ll be catching that OnDemand in favor of Next Food Network Star, I’m slighly ashamed to say. And on that note, having 20 garlic chicken with wild rice and fresh green beans in a roasted garlic, white wine, and butter sauce. Simple but scrumptious.

    Question guys, I just heard this new song by Jay-Z, it’s obviously sampled from another song, and I can’t find the name of the song it’s sampled from. I’m a hip/hop/r&b kinda girl, and this song is not in my registry, but if it is, I like it.

    Anyway, does anyone know what song is sampled:

    Forever Young

    BTW, the dude singing sounds so much like Sting, so I assumed it’s a Sting song right?

    @lamh32:
    That doesn’t sound like any Sting song I’ve ever heard. I can’t tell which part you think is sampled, the keyboard part, or that occasional 3-note hit.

    ETA: And there you go. I would have never gotten that one. And yeah, that guy does sound very Sting-like.

    ETA2: The Alphaville song is also named Forever Young, lol, and the guy singing sounds like the guy in the Jay-Z video.

    You can always tell when its happening, they start running a “best of PBS – athon” with big band, 50 rock-n-roll and that sort of crap tossed in. They did rerun Ken Burn’s Civil War which I have not seen since its first run so I actually appreciated seeing it.

    @stuckinred:
    The Military Channel is rerunning “The World at War” which I think is about the best documentary on WWII by far. Tonight they have D-Day episode. That is followed by a Special on Normandy.

    The real snarky thing for Elton John to do would be to give the money to some pro-gay marriage group or some group like Move On. I was just watching Ari Fleishcher whine about Helen Thomas. Hate…wahhh… anti-semitism…wouldn’t be acceptable to any other group…wahhh….racism…. wahhh. Don Lemon never talked to Ari about kicking Helen Thomas off her seat in the press room. Never asked Ari about the anti-muslim crap that the Bush administration was happy not to criticize. Ari takes a cheap shot at Helen Thomas being a Yasser Arafat supporter. I seriously just need to stop watching news. Heard the replay of Faux News Sunday where Chris Wallace couldn’t find a way to phrase any question except “when did Obama stop screwing up in the gulf?”

    BTW did you have a cupcake for Lily for her adoptabirthday?

    So I saw Prince of Persia yesterday.

    I had no plans to see PoP. Unlike Lara Croft Tomb Raider, I had actually never played the video game or even really heard of the game. But my sister and I had decided to see 2 movies in one day. Sherek Forever (3D) was first, and PoP was the only thing that fit in the correct timeslot, and my youngest sister wanted to see it.

    So we saw PoP, besides, I figured it couldn’t be as bad as Max Payne (let’s just say that the trailer was much better than the actual movie! If there is 7 levels of hell, then they will all have Max Payne on a continuous loop) Compared to that, PoP was not half bad.

    The plotline was pretty predicitable, the twist and turns, Stevie Wonder could basically see from a mile away. Still, the action sequences were pretty good and well-executated (but that kinda what you expect from a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, i.e. Bad Boys, Pirates of the Carribean, Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Con Air, The Rock, Armageddon, etc…).

    Pros: action sequences were pretty good, the actual “sands of time” effect was pretty good, supporting cast pretty good, especially Alfred Molina and this Black dude who I can’t name, there was enough action/adventure humorous banter was fast-paced enough to keep you interested. jake gyllenhaal’s body was pretty banging, you could see that he had bulked up for the role.

    cons: predictable storyline. I was literally, not surprised by much that occurred in the movie. I’m not sure if I really felt the chemisty between jake and the lady (but it wasn’t bad as Ellen Degeneres and Bill Pullman playing a couple in that Mr Wrong movie she did). Also, jake was supposed to be a Persian prince, but he had blue eyes and he and everyone had a British accent? Still, it’s not like they would have American accents or really bad British one like Kevin Costner in “Robin Hood”, still I was a continuity thing for the history geek in me.

    Still, it wasn’t bad. It was def a good way to pass the time on a hot Saturday evening. The action was pretty sharp, the banter was okay, and I wasn’t completely bored by the halfway mark.

    So:

    Plotline: B- (only cause, you’ve seen it before, and their was nothing really new to it, boy meets girl, girl hates boy, boy finds girl obnoxious, boy saves girl or girl saves boy or boy/girl “stare into each others’ eyes”…whatever)

    Action: B+, not an A only cause it’s a Brukheimer film, and you should expect the action sequences to be pretty good.

    Overall: B. Not bad, not great, not really even particularly memorable once you’ve seen it, not really something you go back to see again. I would recommend it if your first choice was not available for some reason, but you still wanted to see a movie to pass the time.

    Special mention: Alfred Molina was great in this. He was funny, and had some of the best lines (although, many of them involved taxes and the government, and the government “giving it” to the small business man, a little too teabaggery for me, but I’m in Texas, so it played well, and Molina delivered the lines well)

    We’ve had thunder and lightning here two nights in a row, and it’s been raining pretty much nonstop. I’m going to have to download plans for an ark, if this keeps up.

    In other news, SamKitten decided that his fun new thing is going up stairs. That would be our 14-step staircase. At the bottom of which is a ceramic tile floor. And when I put the gate up to thwart him, he gives me that “You can’t really be serious about this, can you, food-providing lady?” look.

    So, I went up the stairs behind him. We did this about seven times this afternoon. At least we’re both getting our exercise, which is good, as I’ve recently joined the Y and am tired of having 60-year-olds totally outdo me in the boot camp classes.
