There are those who say I am paranoid to think that Republicans will try to impeach Obama if they retake the House, so I’m just going to pass it along every time a Republican House member talks about impeachment. You’ll never guess who said this:
“[T]he thing is, here we are, people can’t wait until November. They’re practically lining up for polls now, they can’t wait to go out and vote. The only thing is people wish Barack Obama was up for re-election right now, because they’d honestly love to have a chance to throw him out of office. Everywhere I go, people ask me, ‘Michele, can we impeach the president?'”
Chat Noir
Crazy Bachmann is my guess. She’s nuttier than a fruit pie, as my husband would say.
Corner Stone
@Chat Noir: My dad always says, “Nuttier than a peach orchard boar.”
I report, you decide.
Keith G
And that’s why Cole has the blahs.
Bruuuuce
Then again, the folks who vote elected that nut to office. Of COURSE that’s the reaction s/he [gender disguised to protect the nonsurprise] hears.
The Dangerman
This is just talk to fire up the base with acceptable discourse (what she really wants to say is “when do we take the N***** out?”, but that brings the Secret Service knocking).
They’ll never impeach.
JenJen
I’d just like to go on the record as thinking you’re not paranoid about that scenario in the slightest, and personally, I think you should be screaming it from the treetops.
Oh!! And without clicking, c’mon, it’s gotta be Bachmann. Nobody else spells “Michelle” with one “L”. :-)
beltane
Everywhere I go I hear astonishment and disgust with the general yuckiness of the Republican party and its supporters.
Eric U.
I don’t know why the dems treat the republicans with so much deference and ignore the insanity. The feigned outrage that the republicans specialize in probably isn’t the way to go, but bemusedly pointing out that the repubs are insane a little more often can’t hurt.

Which would be… crazy Republican rallies?

Yup, for wingnuts there are only wingnuts on Planet Wingnut, aka Amurrika.
phoebes-in-santa fe
I can’t decide who I hate more, Bachmann or Palin.
But, I think it’s Bachmann, because she has a seat at the table of power.
Short Bus Bully
Waitaminute…
People who support Michelle Bachmann also hate Obama? Damn, that’s newsworthy.
Who could have guessed?
scav
come come, let’s be both fair and kind. she’s only reporting what the little voices in her head are asking her.
Chat Noir
@JenJen: When Michelle Obama was greeting visitors to the White House earlier this year, she met a woman also named Michelle. FLOTUS said something along the lines that “Michelle” with two Ls is the proper spelling. I thought the exchange was very cute. I just love Michelle Obama!
Belafon (formerly anonevent)
You need to create a page to list all of the Republicans who state that they will try to impeach the president, with links to their statements.
Chat Noir
@phoebes-in-santa fe: I hear you. It’s similar to who to hate more: John Boehner or Eric Cantor. I still can’t decide cuz they’re both douches.
JenJen
@General Egali Tarian Stuck: Much in this vein? Josh Strevino hitting Oliver Willis over his support for Team USA in today’s soccer match, over on Twitter.
God, these people are fuckknobs.
@Chat Noir: Awesome!!
Citizen Alan
Well, the “Michele” is kind of a gimme, unless it’s Michael Steele and he’s okay with Republicans attacking his masculinity, which, to be honest, he probably is.
And of course, the Traitor-Republicans will impeach if they retake the House. They don’t have the military as an institution (as opposed to the occasional high-ranking nubjob) so impeachment on frivolous trumped-up grounds is the only sort of coup they can realistically attempt.
El Cid
Who is it that thinks you’re paranoid when you say that if the “Obama=Hitler” “No to Soshullism” crowd gets power they’ll impeach the President?
WereBear
I don’t doubt that the wingnuts enjoy fevered, Cheeto stained fantasies of such, but I lived their dream for eight sick and sorry years, and none of those actually came to fruition, either.
frankdawg
gawd that will be soooooo awesome. it will so make up for the Nixon impeachment and really help the Republicans solidify their hold on power because that is what all of America is clamoring for.
Mark S.
@JenJen:
That’s a pretty dumb statement even for The Artist Formerly Known As Tacitus. Oliver was insanely pro-American during the Wikileaks video brouhaha.
El Cid
Hell, they’d probably impeach Obama over Clinton’s blowjob.
sherifffruitfly
Uh… of course they’ll impeach immediately upon taking control, if control they take.
Who would even bother denying that? lol
Phoenician in a time of Romans
One of the characterististics of teh Weimer Republic was a loss of political legitimacy, and therefore political instability.
Se we had Clinton, impeached over getting it on in teh White House. And then we had Bush, who was let in by the Supreme Court and for whom there are obvious signs of election rigging. And now we have Obama, who was clearly and obviously elected, but is having shit thrown at him about totally fabricated “scandals”, and of whom impeachment is considered the obvious means of removal.
The only thing keeping your system going is the liberals and Democrat reluctance to speak up when the right obviously fuck with your electoral system.
JenJen
@Mark S.: Well, “pretty dumb statement” and “Josh Trevino” are married, you know.
Toast
DougJ: Not only do I not think you’re paranoid, I think it is a 100% absolute certainty. And further, I think anyone who doesn’t see that hasn’t been paying sufficient attention.
The GOP’s central organizing principle is simply this: Democrats are not allowed to govern.
Mark S.
Man, I didn’t pay any attention to Sestekgate because I was pretty sure it was stupid, but I didn’t guess it was this stupid. Offering somebody a job is bribery?

The cutest thing about the wingnuts is, they’ve become so insular, they assume that because they hate Obama, everyone else does too.

Before I read the quote, I was really hoping it was McCain. That would have been some tasty sour grapes.
Oscar Leroy
If they take Congress, will they try to impeach him? Maybe.
If they take Congress, will they spend the next 2 years–vital years for our infrastructure, our energy policy, our sick and unemployed–spending all their time subpoenaing people to see if Obama actually went to the children’s soccer game he claimed to attend? If I had money and could bet on it, I would.
arguingwithsignposts
I know the left said some pretty crazy things about GWB (Bush=Hitler), but I don’t recall this level of crazy coming from elected officials wrt the sitting president, even during the run-up to Iraq. Am I just misremembering history here?
Oscar Leroy
Because they are above such petty roughhousing, don’t you know [said in snooty, William F Buckly-esque voice].

@arguingwithsignposts: Well it is not official Democratic party policy to try to delegitimize the sittting president, although certainly I as an individual was trying to. With the Republicans it is most certainly party policy.
Linda Featheringill
The real problem with Bachmann is that she is probably genuinely crazy. I don’t think that Palin is insane. But who knows what Bachmann is going to do next? And what her motives will be?
Elie
Y’all know of course that this read meat and their read meat just helps keep things going and divided, right? Everyone is playing the game, but there is a consequence. You know that, right?
Shoot, I like to play too, but we egg them and they egg us on and so forth and it keeps the interest going to sell more ads, more (fill in the blanks), more hits.
It doesnt cost us anything but its costing us plenty…
Do you actually not know what happened to the way things were when there was actually a common good or common ground for everyone?
We sold it.

MN6 is the heart of darkness, hillbilly heaven of the worst sort. I have to go there from time to time. Met a couple there that keep all their clocks on standard time, they called it “Gods time” and insisted that DST was against His will.
There is a substantial portion of the folks there that honestly believe all the horseshit that squeezes out of foul orifices like Beck, Limbaugh, Bennett, Hannity and a small cadre of local folks like Jason Lewis who make the others look bright ans sophisticated.
The Catholic Church chose St. John’s (in the heart of the heart of darkness) to stash a bunch of pedophiles. You would think when that became known the folks there would be up in arms but no because the church can do not wrong. St. Johns trains priests.

@Napoleon:
I used to have a button that said “Stupid kills — it’s the collateral damage that’s the real problem.”
The last 10 years, to say the least, have been an incomparable demonstration of that theorem.

This country needs a serious fucking civics lesson.
10 bucks says 90% of the people that want to see Obama impeached think impeachment doesn’t require anything more than not liking the current office holder, instead of realizing an actual impeachable crime must be committed.
P.S. Bachmann is insane and so are her constituents, so her opinion and theirs, is hardly shocking.
suzanne
I’ll vote for Chaffetz. I’m sure there’s a dude somewhere he pays to slap him on the ass and call him Michele.
matoko_chan
awww i wuz hopin’ for malkin.
Praps malkin will soon get the pamgeller treatment from paypal.
i guess bachman is crazy enough to get it too though.
Pamela Geller has received a notice from PayPal that she’s in violation of their acceptable use policy regarding sites that “promote hate,” and told that in order to prevent closure of her account she must remove all PayPal logos and forms from her over-the-top anti-Muslim sites atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com, sioaonline.com, and freedomdefense.typepad.com.
Geller reacts to PayPal’s ruling that she’s inciting hatred by … wait for it … inciting hatred against PayPal. She tells her readers to deluge PayPal with angry emails, and calls them “pathetic Paypal pussies.” Yeah, that’ll work.

@Chat Noir: I hate Boehner – what’s up with that orange tan? – but I save a special detestation for Cantor.
I am Jewish and I consider Eric Cantor to be a shanda – a disgrace to the Jewish people. I’ll never understand how someone can be a Jewish Republican – sorta like I can’t understand Black Republicans or Gay Republicans, either – and Eric Cantor is a nasty little shit, like Norm Coleman.
Both Coleman and Cantor should be ashamed of themselves. They toady up to Republicans and they have to know what the Republicans think about them. Definition of a “kike” – a Jewish gentleman who has left the room.

But I am interested in what you mean by that question… I take it you disagree and would like to hear what you disagree with in my statement.

The readiness of Republicans to use impeachment to resolve policy differences is one more indicator how unfit their party is to participate in our system. And how dangerous they are.
TomG
Man, I really hope that the news article about Michelle Bachmann using $30,000 in state funds for an avowedly Christian counseling center gets more notice. I sent it to John a couple of days ago. Is the Minnesota Independent a reliable paper? I have no way to judge online sources that LOOK like real media. (they say they are “The American Independent News Network”).
roseyv
I’m sorry if I’m being stupid, but I keep seeing these “Impeach Obama” bumper stickers and things stuck on phone polls, and now various articles like this one and okay, bumper stickers are one thing but apparently this is an actual movement among Republicans. And I’m really, really not trying to be funny or deliberately obtuse or anything like that but seriously, don’t you have to have some kind of, I dunno. Grounds for impeachment? I mean, is screeching “but I didn’t VOTE for him!!!” really the only legal standard you need to meet in order to bring impeachment proceedings against a sitting president of the United States? Really?
