Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’m going Galt. Tammy and Brian are coming up for the weekend, and they are bringing superpup Samantha with them. There will be bbq, and tomorrow we are heading to PennMac and Wholey’s on the strip before watching the soccer game. I need to frantically defur the house and hide all my porn get ready, so you all are on your own.

Also, my parents are coming home from the beach tomorrow and bringing a couple dozen steamed crabs packed in ice. I’m drooling.

Finally made myself read that Goldberg column and came away thinking that the fine journalists of the Washington Post were potty trained by learning to wipe their asses on the flag and constitution of this country. These are people who were raised without any sense of shame whatsoever. If any of them had any sense of decency, they would immolate themselves along with Matt Drudge and a few hundred other of their peers. It is so hard not to hate these people.

Whoa, tripping down the memory lanes: monkfish from Wholey’s after working Friday night into Saturday morning, poking around the Strip for awhile before heading back across the Mon and riding the Duquesne Incline up ‘the mont,’ pan frying the fish to serve with some day-old bread from the bakery and consuming a 4-liter bottle of white Gallo with the roomies playing guitar on a smoking hot Saturday night.

We were poor art students, but we thought we lived like kings.

    Enjoy yourself, Mr Cole.

@jeffreyw: I’m making a double blackberry cobbler and lemonade for the weekend, glazing part of a window, and mowing some lawn. (I do the trim work with my non-self-propelling power mower. The Mr. does the big mowing. I call my little red mower my “personal fitness machine.” It’s all level ground, but nearly an acre of trimwork gives a good workout.

@General Stuck: I went to your website for another look at my goddoggie. What a handsome fellow. Love that winsome look. Charlie Stuck with the Winsome Look.

Having labored through Atlas Shrugged 1 1/2 times (the first time at the badgering on an ex-roomie I THOUGHT was sane; the second partial re-reading just to confirm that it was the biggest piece of excrement ever inflicted on humanity), your “version” of going Galt sounds pretty pleasant and refreshing. I just wish all the fruitbats who take that shit seriously would REALLY go Galt; retreat somewhere they’d never be found/heard from again (a habitat like the computer game Bioshock only next to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico); and let the SANE world deal with our problems.
Hope you have a lovely time, Mr. Cole, and hugs and scratches to your furry family.

I’m fairly certain Ayn Rand destroyed my original family – Dad read them, decided he could do whatever he wanted, left family.

I read them to find out what he discovered, and I realized all Rand does for people is give them a philosophically justification to be selfish assholes. Bravo!

So, really: John Galt? Fuck ’em.

If I had any money, I’d mail-order something from Wholey’s. I am craving shrimp. Everything they offer looks great.

bringing a couple dozen steamed crabs packed in ice. I’m drooling.

Damn, can I come? I spent half my childhood crabbing for blue claws down at the Jersey shore. I liked using a drop line baited with either a bunker (fish head) or a chicken neck, rather than a crab trap. It felt more sporting that way.
It was always a slight let-down, after they were cooked, to find how little meat you actually can get from a hard shell crab. (Dead-man’s fingers. Ick.)
But what ever was left was thrown out into the bay, to the sea gull’s delight.
(And any bits that sank to the bottom, for the crab’s delight. They are quite the cannibals.)
