    I just had a right-winger spam my Facebook page about how there’s going to be “regime change” in 76 days and to get used to it.

    Do they all take their talking points from Rush Limbaugh? Their excuse is that liberals used “regime” to describe Bush, but every example they provide is of the phrase “Bush regime”, and not “regime change” itself. I dunno… is this a distinction without a difference?

    Since this is an open type thread, I need some help. Is there any reason my computer suddenly thinks I’m in Spain? All my sites are coming as if I was located in Spain. I’ve done nothing with my settings, so I’m lost.

    I have run all virus, spyware scans and done my updates. I have XP and use Chrome (though both Chrome and IE think I’m in Spain.)

    Thank you if you can help.

    p.s. oh, if only I was in Spain, that would be nice.

    I spent all day in the car. Flipping through the car radio, every time I passed through Thom Hartmann’s show, he was drama-keening about Obama’s “retreat” on the mosque. Then I get home and turn on my TeeVee and Ed Henry and Wolf Blitzer’s Facial Hair are Very Concerned that Obama has put Democrats in a very difficult position, and that Harry Reid is a gutless turd (and I’ve always thought Reid got a bad rap from Teh Professional Left).

    I’m ready to fucking give up.

    Are you using Firefox? Try this:

    Go to Tools>Options>Content
    Under Languages click on “choose” and choose “English/United States.”

    That might help.

    Edit: Duh. I should read. No, you’re not using FF.

    Can you try choosing your location/language for your operating system? That might be part of the problem.

    been out of box all day, but i wanted to follow up on a note i made the other day in response to cleek about Obama always going at it 3 against 1. I forgot the vichy dems. it varies by issue; sometimes it is nelson, or lincoln or whomever. now it is reid.

    so, the next time someone tells me that obama should have gone all in on single payer to push the envelope on what’s possible, I am going to scream.

    the same is true if did an executive order on DADT. I can guaran-effing-tee it that at least one vichy dem will come to the defense of the legislative body and undercut Obama while feeding a gop storyline.

    I do have my settings (on google, chrome and IE) set for English US, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Sigh. Maybe this is a hint I’m suppose to more Spanish.

    Also, for Chrome, you could try this:

    =click the wrench
    =choose – Options
    =down by Default Search, click the Manage button
    =click the Add button
    =in the name box, enter Google-english
    =in the keyword box, enter en
    =in the URL box… copy the entire next line, and past it into the URL box:

    google.com/search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s

    =you should get a green checkmark next to the URL box.
    =click OKAY
    =highlite Google-English in the list and click the Make Default button.

    @WaterGirl: Here’s an older post of mine with a link to a very good recipe. Tonight I just kinda winged it with some orange marmalade I made a day or two ago. Basic dish is chicken chunks dredged in a thin batter and deep fried. My sauce tonight was 1/4 cup of the orange marmalade, 1/4 cup hoisin sauce, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup sweet Thai chili sauce, 1/4 cup chili/garlic paste, some chicken stock, and some corn starch to thicken it. Added some red pepper flakes and orange zest. In the above measures, “1/4 cup” means a glop or two. Bring it to a simmer to thicken it and give it a taste.
    The frying batter is 1/2 cup water, 3 T of flour, 2 T corn starch, 1/2 t baking soda, 1 t oil, 1/2 t salt, 1 egg. It’ll look thin on the chicken chunks. Fry in 350 degree oil.

    All right. Because all my settings were correct, I decided to unload Chrome and load a new version of it. When that didn’t do a damn thing, I went to google (since both google and Youtube insist I’m in Spain) and did some searching. Seems it might be my IP is being read incorrectly. I submitted it to teh google to correct, so that may correct the issue.

    So see, my computer really does think it is in Spain. I just wish it would have taken me with it.

    And that is great news on soonergrunt. I’ll keep the good thoughts coming.

    I think the random topic posts are fun. They are useful for a couple of reasons as well. First, they function as a palate cleanser or break between rounds. The little blog community that has developed here gets passionate about issues and tempers sometimes flare. A pet, cabbage, or sock post allows people to calm down and permits people who were just telling one another to fuck off to talk about something they have in common. This kind of thing can hold a community together. Second, the crowd of weirdoes who hang out around here have a wide variety of interests and knowledge. The random topic posts allow people to talk about those things without, generally, cluttering up a thread that has a serious topic. Finally, if you don’t like them, skip them. Don’t whine about them. Jeez.

    Question: Since both Chrome and IE think you’re in Spain, it doesn’t sound like the problem is isolated to a specific browser. Have you checked your IP address? You can go to any number of sites to do that online, like this one for instance. Perhaps you’re somehow running a proxy or your computer thinks you’re running a proxy, thus thinking you’re in Spain.
