Dinner party was a smashing success. Everyone has finally left, the leftovers are put away, the dogs have all gone potty, and I’m ready for bed, and I just can’t get over how good I have it. It really doesn’t get better than having good family, good friends, and good pets.
And Little Feat still sounds good:
RIP, Richie Hayward.

I have never known anyone, in my entire life, to have as many parties as you do. But, umm, kudos to you I guess.
Nicely done. Again.
Yutsano
The question, of course, is what happens to the leftovers? Also which one of the dogs is the bigger table scrap beggar?

I have, but not anyone who says he’s as anti-social as John claims to be.

Why do I always momentarily confuse Little Feat with Little River Band?

Saw “Get Low” today starring Robert Duvall. He is magnificent. Enjoying a steady rain right now.

Hi all. Who’s still up? I just got back from a party. Lots of leftovers there, too.
asiangrrlMN +1 (because I so rarely get to say plus anything).

Cole, we all take for granted what we got.
Glad the good times are finally catching up with you.

@asiangrrlMN: I’m just home from sushi and drinks, but about to go to sleep (embarrassing since it isn’t even last call here yet).

@KG: I’m assuming the wavy equal sign means about? Night!
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: That is the traditional definition from what I understand yes. Of course the last time I made an assumption well…the results weren’t pretty.
Hi hon. Didja see the brainworm I gave FH #1?
JGabriel
IN 1985, Veronica Geng wrote a humor piece for The New Yorker imagining a meeting between George Bernard Shaw and Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Geng’s Shaw is nothing like the real Shaw, but is, in her own words, “an accumulated … list of crank likes and dislikes … bad epigrams … and critics’ formulas [compounded into] a feeble fourth-generation Shaw verging on Andy Rooney and assorted belligerent pundits”. From Settling An Old Score:
Which brings us to today’s NY Times Op-Ed by Maureen Dowd:
(A blank, horrified pause.)
I am not too manly, dear reader, to admit that, yes, I flinched. Hell, I fucking quailed.
The point, in case you thought I’d forgotten it, is that once you’ve begun to write like a beloved and fondly missed mid-80’s New Yorker editor’s parody of “a feeble fourth-generation Shaw verging on Andy Rooney and assorted belligerent pundits”: it is time. to. fucking. retire.
End point.
Period.

@JGabriel #11: You captured precisely my own reaction to MoDo’s piece today. I am increasingly bemused that the NYT pays her good money to indulge in vulgar second-rate wordplay in order to make some dubious point which she then proceeds to drive into the ground in the most heavy-handed way imaginable.
Every now and then she uses a pun that might elicit a brief chuckle were it a spontaneous, conversational comment. But committing these throwaways to print/pixels is like bronzing cotton candy.

I just can’t get over how good I have it.
You mean aside from living in a country that has gone batshit insane.

@roshan: Gamla Stan!

You’ve got that right. Cherish them. Especially your good friends…as an adult, I find it a lot more difficult to develop new friendships. I envy those who have a good-sized circle of friends who live nearby and who come over for parties and whatnot.
You’re a lucky man, Cole.

@RedKitten: No SamKitten birthday photos posted yet? You’re slacking, lady!

Because they are functionally equivalent?
Re: Shaw (real and imagined):
Cole’s prose stylings shine out like a shaft of gold when all around is dark.
It does, but you’re young, and can’t be expected to know better.
RedKitten
@SiubhanDuinne: Done and done! I just uploaded some birthday pictures. You’ll probably be shocked at how NON-baby-like he appears in these photos. Just in the last month, his appearance has really changed from “baby” to “little boy”.
R-Jud
@RedKitten:
Yeah, it’s kind of staggering how quickly that changes.
SiubhanDuinne
@RedKitten #19: Thanks, RK! That’s what I call prompt service :-)
And you are so right: the change in just a few weeks is quite stunning. The July “tummy” picture in the pool is a baby. The “striped shirt sitting on the floor with somebody’s foot in the background” is decidedly a Boy. It’s both fun and fascinating to scroll through the past year’s worth of SamPhotos and watch him grow and change, and try to figure out what, precisely, has shifted. Proportions, the set of the eyes, a certain acquired beginning of wisdom around the mouth — I’m not sure what it is, but it’s endlessly interesting.

I just took a look at the new pictures. Yes, he does seem to have just become a little boy. And still way cute.
RedKitten
And he just took his first steps about 10 minutes ago. : )
SiubhanDuinne
@RedKitten #23: YAAAAY SAMKITTEH!! What an excitement!
RedKitten
Yep. He was in the dining room, hanging on to the corner of the wall, and I was in the kitchen. I got some bubbles that were on the shelf and was blowing a bunch of bubbles to entertain them. He was so dazzled by the bubbles that he forgot himself and started walking towards them. He took about 6-7 steps before he remembered where he was and plunked onto his bum.
BobS
@JGabriel: Do you also confuse the New York Yankees with the New York Dolls?
SiubhanDuinne
@RK: LOL, too bad you couldn’t rin a video camera whilst simultaneously blowing bubbles!

During the Lambs’ first game, the Red Sox will be at Oakland and the US Open men’s final will be on. This is almost as good as a Yom Tov.
