    (Backstory: I had a friend in a geology dept. Rocks folks party hard. When anyone got tenure, the party game was to do shots of mezcal and make the tenuree eat the worm. The more you liked the prof, the more worms you made him/her eat.

    My bud was really popular — and the party was at my house. I have never suffered so much. And the fucking 5th Panzer division had passed through my home somehow while I was passed out. Good times.

    My friend, by the way, did not surface till well past noon. His hangover lasted three days.)

    Um, call me unimpressed. This article showed up on Yahoo! Headlines. They were impressed. I was not. I did not know the category, and I got the answer (scout’s honor) without watching the video (which wasn’t working for me). I’ve solved puzzles with no letters showing before. My mom says I should go on the show, but Pat Sajak gives me the heebie jeebies. I just know I would wig out and start beating the shit out of him when he tried to hug me.

    @MattR: Agreed. I was thinking that as well. But, yes, she did win a trip, so there is that. I also scream at the people who know what the answer is and waste a high number value on a letter that only appears once in the puzzle (when they KNOW another letter appears eleven-billionty times).

    I watch with the mute and I fast-forward through everything but the puzzles. Once I solve them, I fast-forward to the next puzzle. I can watch one episode in five minutes.

    Plus, I hate most of the contestants, so I usually root for the wheel.

    That was just way too close for comfort, though I still wonder about the pass interference call that got the Bengals to 1st and goal for their last TD. They didn’t show a good shot of it, but it more or less looked like they were jockeying for position and he didn’t get his hand on him til after the ball got there.
    In general, I hate the P.I. flags 30 seconds after the play is over. That just feels like it’s letting the wide receiver lobby for a flag and giving in.

    @Angry Black Lady: The only time I ever heard anyone say “Sweet sassy molassy” was in a SNL spoof of SportsCenter. Ray Romano was a guy at the desk for the first time, trying to outdo Stuart Scott (played by Finesse Mitchell) at coining meaningless catchphrases. (He also at one point said “You’re not gonna pay a lot for THIS muffler!”) It wouldn’t make anyone’s SNL highlight reel, but it’s _totally_ stuck in my mind, and I’ll probably be saying it just before they lead me off to the Soylent Green mills.
